  1. Use cheaters on your lines that are off your downriggers. Leadcore and/dipsy's also help add to the spread.
  2. Could be the voltage regulator giving up.
  3. About an 1/2 hr from Cambridge in a car/truck.
  4. There was a place just north New Dundee. SW corner of Huron Rd. & Queen St. Been a couple years since I've been past it so not sure if it's still going. Never fished there myself.
  5. You may be over your capacity with the 15' Angler already. Add boat weight, motor weight, trailer weight, fuel weight & gear weight to start with. Also deduct from your 1200 lbs the extra weight of your passengers & other things loaded in your vehicle.
  6. I will be there Sat. also fairly early. Will be heading out to the deeper water for walleye & rainbows.
  7. Better fishing is in the lake now & generally always. Most fish are moving to deeper waters. Most likely further out than you want to go. Catfish fishing in the creek at night can be good.
  8. What some miss on the proof of competency requirements for foreign boaters is that the exemption only applies to the boats owner for stays of the boat for less than 45 days. Relatives or friends are not exempt from proof of competency. If the boat stays in Canada 45 days or longer exemption is not valid. It is how long the boat is in Canada not how long the owner is.
  9. The I-68 works similar to the Nexus card. All aboard must have one. Again not required to fish US waters as long as you don't anchor, go ashore or enter inland waters. For just fishing without anchoring no reporting in is required.
  10. Not likely just a fuse. You usually don't smell burning electronics with a blown fuse only. A blown fuse should stop the power before it gets to the circuits. There may not even be a fuse on the motor. Fuses usually only blow for 2 reasons. 1. Too much power is being drawn though it. 2. Fuse is old and worn out.
  11. Sheepshead/freshwater drum. Different names for the same fish. Here's a small one from Nipissing.
  12. Should have popped the fuse if there was one or it wasn't replaced with a larger one?
  13. Not entirely accurate. My guess the "special paper work" you are referring to is a Nexus card. Only valid if everyone on the boat has one. Also only good for entry into the US & not valid for entering Canada. No reporting in to the US authorities is required as long as you don't anchor, go ashore or enter inland waters. In this case border rivers are not classed as inland waters. Your first entry of the day into Canada from the US waters requires a call to Canadian Customs.
  14. Not the battery. Amp hours is a way of describing how much power the battery will hold & how long it will last before being discharged. More Amp hours = longer run time. The battery does not send amps to the motor. The motor draws the amps from the battery. A battery can not send more amps then the motor calls for. If the motor or wiring is faulty it is possible that it could draw more amps than it's designed for over heating the wires/circuits. This is the reason for using fuses or breakers on electrical circuits. *aplumma & Drifter it appears you posted while I was typing.*
  15. Plastic milk jugs work for me.
  16. IIRC the 190 has twice the power, colour display & almost twice the pixels. Downside of the 190 is that it is used without the benefit of a warranty.
  17. Fri. to Fri. may be a little harder as Sat. to Sat. is more standard. During Jun. it may be possible but most likely not on for Jul. or Aug. Not a lot out there for $500 per week worth staying at. Expect a little more. $500 a week for a reasonable place is a steal.
  18. I'm certified Advanced Medical First Responder through St. John Ambulance. Until just last month I was also an instructor of this course and Standard First Aid & CPR. Work didn't leave me enough time to keep instructing. Advanced Medical First Responder is a 40 hr course after you are qualified Standard First Aid + CPR/C. Never used first aid during a fishing trip but have used it many times at work & while volunteering with St. John Ambulance.
  19. Unless the renter is a registered business in the boat rental field,(ie: outfitter, cottage resort or marina ect.)don't even consider trying a rental agreement to avoid an operators card. A equivalent card from there home jurisdiction is good.
  20. The yellow card mentioned can be one of three things. They are issued at the ministry office or an approved license issuer. Online you print off a paper equivalent. 1. Is your temporary Outdoors card until your permanent one arrives in the mail. 2. Is you temporary 3 year license/licenses if purchased at the time you bought your Outdoors card. Both of these are not required after your permanent Outdoors card arrives with the imprinted 3 year fishing and/or small game tag. 3. Is your other tags bought as add on's to your outdoor card. For example one year fishing licenses, hunting licences ect. These you are required to carry with you when doing the activity they authorize.
  21. Same method I use. Yes it is a little more work but the results are worth it. They hold the hook better & are far shinier.
  22. They have been a competitive team for the last few years under the Hunters but this is only the second title ever. They have been in the league for many years so two titles is a long ways from a dominating history. I remember going to their games at the old London Gardens (later to be called The Icehouse)in the 60's/ early 70's and watching Darryl Sittler.
  23. Installation is rather easy & explained in the manual. The problem with the portable kit for use on a boat is the suction cup mount for the transducer tends to pop off if you are running at speed from spot to spot. Removing the transducer from the back of the boat when running at faster speeds solves this but you now lose the use of the unit for depth. For the transducer mount linked to above you can almost buy a second transducer. Mount your transducer to the boat as in the instructions & buy a icefishing transducer if you plan on using it on the ice.
  24. The 550 should be good. In the PirahnaMax series go with the 170 or higher. The 550 is better though with a bigger screen.
