  1. Absolutely. Splake, like lakers and specks, go into full spawning mode in october and start pushing shallow as soon as soon as the water starts to cool. I like to fish them like specks and cast into shoreline structure adjacent to deep water areas. Big boulders with 10 + FOW close by has been a top producing spot for me. If youre fishing with another person, try one person casting spinners like a no. 6 panther martin and the other with a slip floated worm and go from there!
  2. Yeah i used to love the ride from whitby.
  3. Bring a knife sharpener
  4. 2 none between 40 - 60 cm, one over the slot. However, ive learned the hard way not to trust word of mouth when it comes to the regs. I always double check myself lol
  5. Oshawa marina was closed many years ago due to contaminated soil from past land use. Lots of people put kayaks and canoes in at the simcoe st bridge and you can park close to the beach so if your boat is carryable then you should be fine.
  6. Thanks for posting that. Shoddy unscientific journalism in that yahoo article. Never heard of this 'whiting' phenomenon before...very cool
  7. I use gulp minnows religiously, they work fantastic on walleyes, and even i can say theres still definitely a time and place where minnows/leeches cannot be beat. I also dont have gobies/sunfish/any other panfish to contend with.
  8. You layed into em good for 'tough' conditions! Thanks for the report.
  9. What Bill said. I found some great brookie water when i used to live around the block from you...even found some nice browns in the mix. I also found it really slowed down in the summer so it should pick up in a couple weeks once waters cooled down. Fly fishing was always the most effective for me. I had some 10-15 fish days where i couldnt get them to touch a spinner or worm. Size 8 - 12 bead head nymphs under an indicator are deadly.
  10. Haha, nicely illustrated. If you dont have at least one of those stories you need to fish more. Find peace knowing it was just a bass For me it would be the infamous brookie that ripped my tip up straight down the hole in early december last winter.
  11. Awesome. Thats a nice mixed bag of species in a beauty spot. Those cats especially look like (delicious) fun.
  12. ^ hahaha! The contemplative laker
  13. That looks ridiculously fun, and probably a little more comfy than a canoe.
  14. Great stuff. Maybe ill be adventurous enough to try the gulp on the harnesses someday.
  15. Yep, that looks real fun
  16. The CanadaMaps app is great for navigating the maze of forest access trails, and a good radar app is helpful as well, but I use my garmin for everything else.
  17. Within 10 hrs? Jeez i think the folks on this board could write you a novel!!
  18. I live around Kipawa, and I've seen more partridge this year then i ever have in this area and everyone else is saying the exact same thing. Not exactly where you will be, but I'm betting you'll see plenty of birds. Good luck
  19. It's amazing to think that the record was still much, much larger than that gigantic fish.
  20. Good luck...lol
  21. I wonder how many people will be rooting around the dirty old Thomas st bridge tomorrow morning... Best of luck in finding it. I strongly suggest the magnet idea
  22. I have no idea what you're getting at. Small shops tend to carry the exact same baits (with a few exceptions of course) and brands as the big guys except for the bargain bin junk that every small shop seems to have. Rapalas, mepps, and Williams have stood the test of time for a reason. On that note, I wish panther Martins were more readily available in shops.
  23. The Manitous is a big run in any size boat...terrible story.
  24. I'm 99% sure i know where you're going, and I live just down the road from there. PM me.
  25. That's just silly.
