  1. I'll call it ignorance. They're gonna have to learn to skate if they want to keep up....
  2. I have 7'6" st. Croix wild river that I use for those techniques specifically, and its perfect. You'll want to get something with more flex throughout the rod imo, especially with live bait fishing
  3. Can't wait for the fiddleheads to start up here. Gonna be at least a week but i saw a couple starting to sprout last weekend
  4. I've never kept shiners, just noting that they're more finnicky than dace
  5. Yep. North of Parry Sound is still about half the price though
  6. Try to keep the water it came in (don't use tap water). I've kept 20+ dace in a 5 L bucket for upwards of 2 weeks without any of them dying. Shiners are another story but if you're talking summertime I'm assuming you're talking chubs and dace...
  7. Gangtrolls and williams spoon trailing 15-30" behind. Shouldn't need any weight as water will still be cold. There's lots of good articles online
  8. I like how you challenge the masculinity of everyone who disagrees with you Good day, sir
  9. So in essence, it is completely fruitless to enforce our regulations and penalize people for illegally and negatively impacting our fisheries if the money doesnt feed directly into the resources? I'm as disgruntled as anyone over squandered funds but you must at least see te merit in enforcement?
  10. As for the 'no reg books and out in full force' comment...that's a head scratcher. This thread shows CO's on one river, famous for blatant fisheries violations on the biggest day of the year for it...where exactly is the issue? I get the whole issue of misuse of revenue generation and not going into the fisheries but it seems like you're literally huffing and puffing over any MNR enforcement of old and well-established regulations as if it's some hidden corporate agenda to fleece all the outdoorsman. I'd like to hear a CO chime in on that
  11. You really believe the CO just showed up out of blue and decided not to check you guys because there was no potential for a photo op/press release? Give me a break...
  12. I would be starting in <5' casting cleos and spinners to shoreline structure like boulders and overhanging timber. Trolling sand flats with wabblers and the like behind smaller gangtrolls can also work well. How clear is the water? No reason the splake should be any deeper than 20' during ice out period. They also really, really like worms so if you find an area where you know they're holding but have lockjaw that should do the trick... As for the rainbows, wait until the water gets a little warmer and just flatline small spinners across the surface of the deepest basins in the lake!
  13. Suckers are tasty. You should go catch a bunch and can 'em...hopefully you wont like them and then you can send them up to me!!
  14. That looks like a ton of fun
  15. I'll be flatlining wabblers behind a gangtroll this weekend...works excellent for me. Never experimented much with hard baits for lakers, but if I did I'd be running jointed original rapalas! If you need a little more depth, add a 3-way/bell sinker set up
  16. Love the photos. Memorable trip for the both of ya's
  17. But they look so pretty butterflied in a pan with a bit of butter and flour, salt, and pepper
  18. Things really opened up this week with all the wind and rain. I went for a scoot down some logging roads behind my place and the snow is about 80% gone and the pot lakes are wide open. This trail would have had 2 feet snow not long ago...ice out trout happening this weekend!
  19. Use a smaller piece of worm and maybe a slightly larger hook. I wouldn't go as small as a 12 or 14, 8 or 10 should be fine
  20. Nice going guys. The big kitty cats are super fun!!
  21. May long will be prime time laker time
  22. Good stuff!!
  23. Looks like a nice day to be out. I wouldnt fish any deeper than 6/7 FOW especially this time of year
  24. Not many (if any) other teams have played Boston as well Montreal over the last few years. It will be a great series
  25. That looks like a ton of fun
