Holy crap, man! Very generous of you, definitely not going to refuse your offer. I'll pm you some details. Thanks again!

Looks like you've got a pretty sweet setup. All I have for now is an inflatable, but I will be in the market for a tinny once I get a vehicle that's capable of towing it. If all goes as planned that'll likely be 2017. I got my trolling motor for free from my grandfather who used to put it on a canoe when they lived by the lake. It's a minkota 35 lb which I'm pretty sure is older than I am but does the job nicely. What you have there is likely more than enough for the fishing I do. If that's not good enough for whomever I take in my boat they can feel free to supply the upgrade . It would be nice to have the GPS and everything all in one place but all things considered the app on my phone is more than sufficient. I am going to keep an eye on kijiji and the like, but I would prefer to buy new. There's always a reason someone is selling something, whether that makes sense or not. By the way from the responses I'm getting the feeling that I can't really go wrong assuming all the features are there on the device I'm looking for. Maybe a better question to ask would have been which ones not to get lol.

What a start to the 2016 Season - Fishing the FLW Tour
netminder replied to jedimaster's topic in General Discussion
Man those Florida swamp donkeys grow big, don't they. Looks like you had a great time. Congrats! -
I have a power supply for my electric motor. I'm assuming I can use that too to power the sonar. All good suggestions so far. Thanks for the help!

In my never ending quest to remove excuses from the checklist of reasons for my poor performance on the lake I'm considering buying a sonar. I only have a tiny boat and as such it would need to be fairly portable and inexpensive. In researching I've found a few options but I was wondering if the collective wisdom of this forum could point me in the right direction. So far my best option in my price range looks like the Humminbird PMAX 197 DI Fish Finder. Please note the +/- $200 price tag is about as much as I want to pay. I know I'm not likely to get top of the line quality at that range but I'm looking for somewhere to start. GPS is not necessary but would be a bonus. Thanks for your help.

poor kitties. I wonder how they got out there? I'd like to assume it wasn't someone trying to drown them...

Tough call. A truck definitely isn't worth a life. But how much of a life did the guy really have who spends his time jacking vehicles? It's too bad it came to this. I hope he can somehow prove self defence, because otherwise 2nd degree murder isn't all that outlandish. Would this actually be considered acceptable south of the border, though? I know a few states have some real cowboy laws, but unless they're intruding in your house or posing a threat this type of force seems a little excessive.

trout opener I'm probably going to the area around my parents place along the Saugeen. mid June we're taking our annual fishing trip to Horwood this year. plan on going to a friend's cottage on Mill Lake near Parry Sound in August (but that's not necessarily a fishing trip although I wouldn't miss the opportunity to get out on the lake while I'm there). The rest of the time I'll be hitting the local lakes and streams and hopefully at least one more trip to my favourite smallie spot before the owner of the lake sells. By the way if anyone wants a private lake in the middle of Midwestern Ontario with amazing fishing and has a few million lying around have I got the place for you - you've only got to let me fish there whenever I want lol.

My current cat was attacked by my old dog the day we found the cat. She wandered into our yard as a small kitten and I think my old/mostly blind/mostly deaf dog mistook the cat for a squirrel and went at her. A repaired punctured lung and hernia later I now have a 10 year old cat that is almost 20 lbs. Sometimes dogs can get confused or something could have happened and it was being territorial. They are still animals, after all. Not to say you shouldn't keep an eye on this dog from now on... Sorry to hear about the cat though. Especially the kids having to see that.

Great idea to take the wife for valentines day!

If you have a hut rental this weekend, heads up

Use the flashlight feature on your phone???
netminder replied to Gerritt's topic in General Discussion
Yes, the video is from 2 years ago but the message still holds true. I think the point is the flashlight app shouldn't need access to every feature in your phone, such as GPS, calls, etc. When you download something a prompt comes up saying "this app would like access to...". You should pay attention to it and avoid downloading something that requires access to stuff it logically shouldn't need to access. -
I think it's reasonable that a guy should have to sit out a game if they claim to be too injured to coast around during the all-star game. It's part of their obligation whether they like it or not. And good for John Scott for sticking it to the league and actually going to the all star game. If you haven't read his essay on the player's tribune I highly suggest taking a few minutes to read it. It definitely opened my eyes. I'll be rooting for him for sure. Today on hockey central he said he was going to score 6 goals between the two games and he's participating in the hardest shot and claims he has a shot in excess of 103 mph. I can't wait to see that. http://www.theplayerstribune.com/a-guy-like-me/

I think what you quoted me as saying is all that needs to be said lol I noticed that too. Seems to me those guys know what they're doing.

There isn't a fish in the world that won't go after live bait. There's a reason they try to make them as "lifelike" as possible. I'd love to participate in something like that, but I'd be more of a liability than an asset for my team lol.

Effects of Ice and Next Soft Water Season
netminder replied to netminder's topic in General Discussion
I'm mostly thinking of lakes around me that would very, very rarely have ice come opener. Most research I've done suggests that milder winters are better for fish populations. More light getting in means vegetation is producing oxygen longer into the season. What it means for spring spawn... may have more to do with water levels. In spite of not having much snow, last fall and this winter haven't been dry by all means and I hope that continues into the spring. -
This is actually a pretty entertaining show even if a few of the hosts are some of the most annoying people I've ever seen. The one guy in Ontario with the laugh? Holy crappie. Anyway, it's really cool to see guys target fish that would typically be considered junk any other time you hit the water. I think I've actually learned more watching this than I have in about a year of watching fishing infomercials on Saturday mornings.
-
Just curious as to what some of the more seasoned anglers here have experienced in the past or what the common knowledge states about having a mild winter with little to no ice on the next spring's soft water season? Does it have a noticeable effect on fish populations? My chain of reasoning would be more fish in the spring because of less ice fishing during the winter and more oxygen getting to the water with the lack of ice covering. Just wondering if this is actually true.

Firstly, I keep reading this thread title as tiger locks. For not shooting tigers, I guess? Didn't think there were many tigers in the north anyway lol Secondly, I give this a big "whatever." It's pretty obvious they're doing an inventory on guns but to try and make sure they get as close to 100% participation as possible they're giving out free prizes. It also may be my ignorance on the subject, but I'd be very surprised if people who appear to be living in poverty keep their guns properly stored in cabinets, etc. as prescribed in proper gun safety. But truthfully, just because they have them doesn't mean they'll be used. Thirdly, as a liberal/left leaning individual I have no desire to take any law abiding citizen's (toy) gun away. There is no conspiracy to disarm the population, in spite of what the conspiracy theorists believe. I don't think there needs to eb any reform on the gun laws in Canada. Other places though...

I'm actually planning on having our annual fishing outing on Horwood this spring. This is definitely encouraging. Beauty fish!

We'll see how much fun the Red Sox have with Price once he starts breaking down at age 33-37. Fun fact: that is around the time the Jays would be looking to try and restock their team as it is well beyond their current "window". There is no doubt Price helped the Jays make the playoffs last year, but I wonder how much that was symbolic and how much of that truly was on the back of his 9-1 record? The Jays were under performing badly by the trade deadline and I think Price was more of a shot in the arm to tell the team that the front office believed in them. I can honestly tell you that I think the team as it currently stands is still capable of making the playoffs. The Red Sox are by no means a complete team simply by adding Price to their rotation. With Price on the Jays they'd automatically be WS favourites without a doubt. There are still guys out there and I'm curious what someone like Greinke demands. Second tier guys like Cueto, Kazmir and Leake are still out there, and I have trouble believing the Jays don't at least take a shot at signing one of those three. As I posted on sportsnet... Let's play hypotheticals here. Let's assume the Jays are a playoff team in 2016 (which I still believe they are) and Boston figures things out and Price wins 30 games for them like everyone assumes he would in Toronto. On the shoulders of his 30 win season the Red Sox are 120-42 and win the East. Toronto somehow sneaks in and wins the wildcard game and goes up against Boston in the DS. After a 4 game slugfest we're in game 5 and it's Price v. Stroman. Who would you rather have on the mound in that situation?

If I ever find you passed out in your yard drunk I'll be sure to shoot you too.

Dilemma - I Ran Over a Cat (in my driveway)
netminder replied to Pikeslayer's topic in General Discussion
easiest solution is to call animal services. maybe not as elaborately as you did, but knowing/assuming your lawyer-neighbour's mentality, you may face a lawsuit. At my house my wife insisted on installing a dog door because we're usually away from home ~10 hrs every day and that's too long to keep the dog cooped up inside. But a side effect of this is the cat is always outside and can easily escape the back yard. She's definitely not the only cat to roam the neighbourhood, although I don't think she goes much farther than the front yard or the long grass area behind the parking lot next door to hunt. I have a love hate relationship with this cat (mostly because it's a cat) and I'd be very upset if it was killed or ran over. But I would have a tough time blaming whoever did it, because as you found out (and I already know) cats are idiots and seemingly not smart enough to get out of the way when a car is rolling towards them. My wife, on the other hand... I probably would cover it up before she found out and tell her it ran away, just to save the headache. -
How does anyone know they aren't qualified? Harper had an environment minister who didn't even know what ozone was. And as far as I know he didnt have a "quota"

Connor McJesus to miss at least 2 months with a broken clavicle. Too bad, he was just starting to hit his stride.
