Tactical Flashlight - Recommendations Please (NF - sort of)
ckewley replied to T-Bone's topic in General Discussion
What Porkpie said, I bought a 3 pack of Duracell tactical looking flash lights 550 or 800 lumens can't remember, came with batteries for $20.00 at Costco, think it is a 5w LED. -
I really love Hobie's but how easy are they to hike in or portage over to a lake a few KM away? I would imagine most sit on top kayaks to be in the same boat, please correct me if I'm wrong? I was looking into Yak's a few years back & was heavily into this model I eventually fell into a deal I couldn't pass up on a inflatable pontoon but am still really thinking about getting a Yak for shear fun

All packaged up for you guy's & will be shipped out tomorrow. In the process of drying some & smoking others to make powders, now if you've not tried smoke Ghost powder mixed in with your favorite rub.......well a new flavor universe will open for you. Did you start the seeds Gerritt?

I'm sure you know that Amazon sellers greatly inflate the value of just about everything. I'm a movie buff (VHS, DVD, BLU...etc) I'd be a millionaire if I could get the prices they're asking for films, it never hurts to try though.

Your first line reminds me of a Forgotten Rebels song...

I just had a friend who was sick of the city life & moved to your neck of the woods, he's now in a truck driving course, apparently Elliot Lake is a pretty big hub for this.

I'm not saying you will ever run into this but I've seen it first hand. It has been a while since I was in that business but if I recall Cabin filters on most cars are scheduled to be replaced every 15,000km (to 40,000km) and can range from a 5 min fix to over 1.5 hrs (some older BMW's) BUT if your car is still under warranty you better have proof that you've been following their "recommended maintenance schedule" as it can give them some ammo to fight you on warranty issues. I've seen this with BMW, Mini, Ford, Toyota (notorious) . DanD just added his reply as I was typing this out, stated better than my blurb

Fantastic stuff man, I've only ever caught a couple of lake bows & that was when I was a kid I need to give it another go real soon.

You guy's are making me feel all warm & fuzzy. I generally don't spend allot of time in forums because they usually boil over into crap pots. I do have one movie forum & pepper forum (whiteboard actually) that are fantastic & the more I spend around this place it is becoming my first stop, this place does have some really good folks easily the best for fishing forums that I've come across. Davey buoy which Indian & New Zealand peppers did you get? Flashbang is some deadly stuff, as far as superhots go it had less of a metallic taste than most extract's which is a huge plus in my books.

Awesome stuff man!

I read this years ago so some info I may get crossed, but beside over fishing & environment changes in the river systems alewives which were always native to lake Ontario by the way of the St. Lawrence river began to explode in the lake which had very detrimental effects on the Lake Trout populations & when the canal system was put in place they spread like wildfire to the other lakes, specifically Lake Huron & Michigan. Can't remember the man's name but was a world class fisherman from Michigan that saw a opportunity to introduce Salmon to the lake. After a few years of getting approvals he stocked Coho smolts into Beer creek & another river that escapes me right now(around the mid 60's). These fish gorged themselves on the overabundant alewives creating the world class fishery he envisioned, which was his only goal. Now with the ever dwindling alewives population the lake trout & walleye populations have rebounded big time in those lakes which to most lake fisherman "once the salmon are gone I'm selling my stuff" is a common response I hear. 2 Top Bass tourney competitors caught red-handed
ckewley replied to big guy's topic in General Discussion
I fished a few salmon derby's this year & while most were small local events I did attend a big one where I was a observer, is this not something they could do in these bass tourney's to curb the cheating? -
Truthfully I don't mind if they all come here as long as they are screened properly. What I dislike is there are 3-4 locations (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver & Calgary) where they will all migrate to, I believe Garrett stated it earlier, why not send/put them in the interior to help start building out this country. The Italians were sent to Timmins (amongst others), Germans/Polish to Winnipeg...etc, I see nothing wrong with this. Traveling through small town Ontario I've seen signs for Family Doctors needed, if any of these refugees were Dr. in the homeland & can pass a placement test why not make it customary that they serve in these places for a allotted amount of time before they can move on, Toronto doesn't need anymore Dr. that are cab drivers or gas station attendants. At my workplace our shipper/receiver is a licence doctor in his home country & his credentials would be recognized in the UK but not here! Another thing that would have to be done without fail is follow ups to be sure they are here, remember a few years ago when crap hit the fan between Israel & Palestine & all of a sudden we had 10000 Palestinians that are Canadian looking for a lift home, I believe CBC investigated this and found 2/3 of those claimants live most of their time in Palestine Only briefly touching Canadian soil as to not cause a flag on their name.

I've never understood this exemption. they too came here once upon a time. As for politics, unless we as a united people stand up & make politicians accountable for their actions NOTHING will ever change, doesn't matter if it's Orange, Red or Blue.

Those peppers I used in my mash are rated at 1 million to 2 million respectively , now I doubt my peppers hit those marks as I don't have optimum growing conditions but it does bring a tear to the eye for sure

White ghosts are excellent & stupid hot, grew them a few years ago.....might have to put them in next years rotation! Plan on growing a few wild varieties as well like CGN 21500, always wanted to grow a wild variety

No problem Gerritt shoot me a PM with your addy & I'll send some your way(no $$ needed). My genetics come from Ed Currie & I've grown them for 4 years now , excellent producer

A quick bit for the chilly heads out there. This year I grew 18 different varieties of hot peppers ranging from mild to the current Guinness book world record holder. I've made sauces in the past but much prefer a simple pepper mash & let the peppers speak for themselves. Last week I had my first big harvest & was eager to get cooking. Pepper mash is as follows (per 100g of peppers) 60ml of vinegar 1 tsp of honey 1/4 tsp salt That's it, honey can be substituted & whatever vinegar you like, I used apple cider as a buddy makes his own & he keeps bees as well so I get some great honey from him The big pile is a combo of Bhut Jolokia's & Naga Jolokia's(Ghost peppers) & these are the base of my mash These little devils are called Moruga Scorpions & can be as hot if not hotter than Ghost's These bad boy's are the Carolina Reaper, the current world champ according to Guinness. Stupid hot but also have quite a good taste & aroma. All the other peppers in the first picture would not be making it into this mash, their time will come later at the next harvest. So all told I had just over 300g of peppers going into this batch, now the time comes to de-seed these. Some folks leave the seeds in but I find them bitter so I remove them & use them in the years to come. Try to leave as much of the pith/placenta in the pepper as possible, & this should go without saying wear gloves, you may have to change them out a couple of times as the oil from these peppers can eat the gloves. Add all your ingredients & blend, I use the "chop ice" to get everything moving and finish with just high speed to blend it out (about 2 min total). I've been doing this for over 20 years & have dedicated cookware for this, trust me you don't want to use them for anything else. Another point don't cook these inside your place unless you have a good exhaust fan, you will feel like you've been pepper sprayed. On the stove top or camp burner I set mine to 120* to slow cook & reduce total volume by 20% (usually 1.5-2 hrs) always stirring to prevent scorcing (wear gloves for bursting bubbles) All that's left is to sterilize your jars & utensils & waterbath after jared
