  1. I've been to both Pigeon Lake Resort and Camp Fisherman. They were both just fine for us. Nothing spectacular, just your basic cottages. They are both at good locations for fishing on Pigeon. Actually, I think it was Camp Fisherman were I saw someone filet a large musky for the first time. Read plenty of recommendations for Scotsman Point as well, just haven't managed to get there yet. There's also another place right beside Camp Fisherman called Camp Ashtabula. Never stayed there, but looked alright. Never stayed at Green Acres, but I THINK they only have 1 or 2 cottages if I recall correctly. Might be mixing it up with another place.
  2. Might be some nice places on Georgian Bay, but not sure how good the trophy pike fishing would be when you want to go. Your biggest problem is being able to get a weekend at that time. Might consider going the private cottage route instead. For places in Quebec, this site is a nice one to do some research on outfitters.
  3. Is that the place with the sign that has the 24 hours crossed out? Lol. That always makes me laugh when I drive by it.
  4. I think the lure might be a Rat-L-Trap Spin Trap. I've only seen those online.
  5. I don't know why I didn't search White River for a bait shop. Should have been the first place for me to look, LOL. I'll see if I can arrange something with Ed since I will be there and gone between business hours. If not, I will stick to my plan to hit Pagonis. Thanks again!
  6. Rice Lake = WEEDS. Jig in and around any weed beds or rip them with bucktails or pitchin' jigs. I've tried all the popular Walleye techniques on Rice and they all work. However, most of my experience is in the summer and I've only fished it a few times in the spring. Lots of good fishing near Southview as well. We've pulled out plenty of Walleye, Smallmouth, Largemouth, Perch and some HUGE Crappie from the weed beds south of the cottages. Have a good trip!
  7. Well, I always associated drop shotting with a horizontal presentation of primarily artificial plastic baits (the hooks stick straight out from the main line) . The old school pickerel rigs or Kentucky rigs are most often pre-snelled hooks tied onto your main line and baited with meat. It's not quite the same thing. Even if you tied the hooks directly to the main line they would not stand straight out (unless you tied them that way) as they are supposed to in Drop Shot. I really don't see this as marketing any more than saying trolling is a marketing term. It's a technique and you don't need any special hooks or weights to do it. It's all about how you set it up.
  8. I asked, but he never gave me one. I think the price is also seasonal. I suppose I could call, just never bothered.
  9. I also like Owner hooks. I picked up ome TTI-Blakemore Standout Hooks that I thought were kinda cool. Haven't had the chance to try them yet though.
  10. I am sure that is Pagonis and, according to the email reply I received from them, their new store is at 11 Gordon Mackay Rd, which is right near that warehouse.
  11. I have the special braid scissors, but find a sharp knife works just as well. I've used regular kitchen scissors as well, as long as I treat it like it's a knife and not a pair of scissors.
  12. What do you consider NE Ontario? East of Nipigon? Plenty of popular outfitters in NE Ontario. Air Ivanhoe Hearst Air Hawk Air Park's Fly-In Fishing Forde Lake Air - Services Linbarr Lake Adventures and Buck/Bingwood Cabins (they opened two "new" outposts this year that were purchased from Olivier's Outfitters) Johnston's Outpost Camps Air-Dale True North Air North to Adventure/White River Air There are also just as many popular outfitters flying out of Nakina as well. I suggest searching this forum and some others (most customers are American) for info on specific outfitters and lakes.
  13. Thanks again for all the suggestions. Ya, I am unlikely to veer too far off my route to save $20. Still, good to know of all the options. My preference was to pick them up further into my trip (Sault Ste. Marie or further west) so I don't have to worry about them in the car too much. Although, it's probably not a big deal with some ice packs. Still, one less thing to worry about. Might get them from the new Pagonis store as it's just off the 400, although he never quoted me a price for a flat so I may just stick to my original plan.
  14. Thanks guys. I never thought of picking them myself, lol. I guess years of living in downtown condo will do that to you. I will check those others out.
  15. Heading out to White River next month and want to pick up a flat or half-flat of worms along the way for our trip. Last year I picked them up just outside of Sault Ste. Marie at The Trading Post. I think I paid $65 for a flat. Was going to order them from there again, but figured I'd ask if anyone had any other suggestions. I will be driving along Highway 17. Thanks.
  16. Caught two Walleye in 3-4 feet of water in/near some weed beds using a Shad Rap last weekend. Buddy did catch an OOS Smallmouth though. We were there for the Walleye but could have easily been accused otherwise. Pitching docks though? Well, I guess he could be after pike......
  17. Ya, I thought the cork might be pricey. The other pieces will obviously have a huge range depending on quality/rarity. Maybe I'll just start gluing together some of my wine corks
  18. Looking nice. Definitely a hobby I'd love to get in to. If you don't mind me asking, what were the approximate material costs for those butts?
  19. If they are silver plated (I think they are, I don't recall), could try the old baking soda in hot water with aluminum foil trick. Works well and you don't need any harsh chemical cleaners.
  20. Picked a Fergie up from Angling Sports in London, ON a few months ago. I don't recall if they had a large selection or not. I bought a Prototype Fergie, which is basically a Fergie Special with a fish pattern on it. Angling Sports London Ltd. 681 Highbury Ave. N. London, ON N5W 4L4 519-649-7429
  21. Thanks, I appreciate it. I have family in Toronto still, and I also visit often enough, so it shouldn't be a problem to get if I can't find it locally.
  22. For fishing, I still prefer Le Barons and my local shops. Hopefully BPS expanding is a sign of good things on the horizon for the tourism industry.
  23. Thanks for all the excellent advice, much appreciated. The deck boards that are butted together are a small section that I believe was added on at a later date. I read some good reviews about Penofin (amongst others like Armstrong Clark), but no clue where to buy that. I've been looking around at the big box stores and various paint shops but they all primarily carry their own brands. The "best" I could locate so far was Sikkens Cetol SRD and the Cabot's ATO. However, I am a bit concerned because I think they are both more recent formulations that are hybrid oil/water based (wash with water) which aren't getting as good reviews.
  24. WRT pressure washing. No, I don't know what I am doing, lol. I think I will clean it with a brush with some commercial cleaners. I was only considering the semi-stain route because it was often recommended to be longer lasting. Although, if just sealing it isn't too difficult, I don't mind doing that every year if I have to.
