I guess that’s my only contradiction when yOu are fishing suspended fish in deep water like salmon or laketrout
-
Lol that’s the classic, these southern ontarioans don’t know about driving on square tires lol thats when you knew it was cold the tires went thump thump thump as you drove lol sleds and anything else that you wanted to run had to stay somewhere warm. When the weather broke and it got above -25 below again, everyone was out fishing because nothing ran when it was too cold. My stupid brother nearly died one night, him and a friend decided to go ice fishing, sure enough when they went to start the sled, it was a no go. Just too damn cold. They had an ice shack to stay in but ended up breaking into another shack to get fire wood to survive the night. Said it was the coldest longest night of his life sitting in that shack waiting until the temps rose enough the following day to get the sled running again.

First mistake in sonars, is thinking that they are for finding fish. They are for finding things that fish like primarily. If you mark a fish as well good for you lol

My suggestion is go with a terrova, if you really don’t want to be fancy about it skip buying ipilot link and simply get a terrova with ipilot bill is correct that a 24v system will move the boat fine but may leave you wanting more on rough windy days. If you can afford 110 just like an outboard more power is never a problem. interestingly bill says that he never uses his front unit, I personally would argue the complete opposite. I use my front unit while I’m actively fishing a hell of a lot more than my console units. I would argue that side imaging is stupid for the front transducer and you are better off with down imaging and chirp at the front unit. if you don’t have the fancy GPS simply use your basic gps unit because all minkottas come with Universal sonar functionality. Really allowing you to be pretty much plug and play. The amount of times im fishing along and mark fish beneath the boat on the front graph, hit spot lock and then drop a dropshot on the fishes head is too many to count. ipilot link is an additional function that will send you down the rabbit hole of spending thousands on new units, cards, and a more expensive trolling motor. I would argue if you don’t know about it already don’t bother stick with standard ipilot. the place you will enjoy it most is when you decide to jig up some Walleye on your favourite hump. You’ll pull up stealth, hit spit lock and the boat does the rest. No dancing around on the trolling motor, no trying to find the hump again, no readjusting or flying all over the place when a wind gust hits. You can’t beat it. any more questions let me know, I’ve researched the stuff extensively and know more than any person that isn’t making a living selling the damn things should lol. edit: I’ll add that if you can describe what your current electronics set up is, I can go into more detail about your options

sounds like a solid offer, all of my gear is up north, if i go up this weekend I will bring it back...just a matter of whats going on this weekend.

coldest i ever experienced was in Flin Flon January 12th 1996. It was -39 with 40kmh winds...it was actually too dangerous for us to catch the bus to school, so they cancelled buses on a day with no snow. for me a kid it seemed not far from any other day, -30 hurts and that was normal, so -39 doesnt hurt a lot more lol. however my mom went and swept of the porch to get rid of some blowing snow for about a minute and ended up permanently damaging her ears with frostbite. We do get the odd day in Ontario, this past weekend it was 25 below in pointe au baril...had the classic nose freezing feeling, -30's though is when yours eyes stick when you blink.
-
hmmm I would argue no, but its more about how friggin expensive it is. This is far more than a pretty image, this is pretty game changing. Heres a really good explanation of how it works...once again by none other than Mr AAron Weibe of course
-
Nick find yourself a nice pair of powder skis, or even some 90's non wood water skis and that thing would floattttt nice lil rig though for sure. Ill race you dragging my 150lb clam...only catch is that I get to use the Ski-poo lol Hopefully i get to see it in person at some point...some simcoe lakers maybe???

what a beauty weekend it was, not a cloud in the sky and crisp -20 mornings and dead calm -10 sunny afternoons. I swear to god it feels 100 times warmer when its -10 sunny and calm then when its 0 and cloudy. My buddy couldnt help falling asleep either, those sunny afternoons called for a nap. I even got a sunburn, and met a local who directed me the way of a bush trail that I was not aware of that allows me to fish in one of my favourite fishing grounds. Lots of people were concerned about this ice season, i think we are just getting started on a long hardwater season. Time will tell!

14 inches in front of the cottage in pointe au baril not as much in trouble areas but most things are passable now especially after this cold snap with no snow on the ice.
-
Anywhere in the parry sound district is gonna be good to go for walking at a minimum if you avoid trouble areas. Plenty of ice up here now
-
Only thing I would worry about is the fact that without a doubt lowrance or Humminbird are doing their absolute best to try and copycat it and as such the price will definitely drop. if you’ve got the dough it’s by far the craziest thing on the market right now and for sure isn’t a fad. You can’t argue with 3d live imaging
-
There’s no way I’m venturing onto quinte knowing nothing unless it’s January and I’m sure the ice is good. Unless someone that knows wants to take me lol
-
Hopefully being busy now just means you have more time during the real season, softwater season lol

yes, the act of carrying a knife and using it on someone immediately comes with the catch of it being premeditated. You can use items from the environment to defend yourself, but the fact that you are carrying a deadly weapon and then subsequently use it on a person means you were carrying the knife with the intent to use it to hurt someone. I am sure the court would hear you out if you were carrying a leatherman while fishing and used it to defend yourself after you got jumped by a junkie in the bushes...but if you carry a knife with you to the bar and decide to get in a fight and use the knife...you are toast.

im guessing simcoe is wide open again as of this morning?

As i thought, Nylander looks like garbage out there. The kid doesnt care and unfortunately thats something you cant teach. You either have determination or you dont...and hes as flat as a pancake. I figured when he was holding out that the guy wasnt the type of player that you "win with" and sure enough, its ringing entirely true. That Subban goal was pathetic, ive seen guys in my M division mens league team get out to the point faster that that off of a defensive zone faceoff. At least this time he didnt flamingo. BRUTAL

Not such great advice, because in 99.9% of situations in Canada any culprit would not be carrying a firearm themselves and as such if you were to god forbid pull the trigger you would be finding yourself facing a first degree murder charge. Especially because you have clearly brought the weapon with you wherever you have gone. its no different than carrying a knife. I know plenty of people who carry a knife on them. They don’t realize that if they ever use it on someone they will be getting an attempted murder / murder charge. i hope the police do their jobs effectively to stop the problem. If you choose to turn a blind eye though and be complacent you are potentially part of the problem. I understand that most of us feel that we can hold our own, but perhaps some neighborhood kids go for a bike ride or hike down the wrong path. We all have a job to be dilligent. im on a streak now of 6 consecutive trips through barrie stopping at either the Wendy’s on Fairview or the shell on Bayfield and witnessing, drug dealing, prostitution, police standoffs and general tweaking by junkies making a scene.

i wish i had intel but ive always wanted to try ice fish quinte as well. Global warming etc just keeps making all of these spots less and less available every year. The window to fish these kind of spots is either non existent or very tiny. Bloody simcoe is hardly safe, and its the middle of january! Bucket list spot for me, add it to Parry sound for lake trout, i may never see the opportunity to ice fish it in my life time.

i thought about this too...the whole (he got concussed by taking a shot off of the mask during practice)???? I saw Talbot take a slapshot straight between the eyes on saturday and no one cared... Mis, i like insider info...and im a fan of Hutch, his postgame interview showed a lot about his character...he almost was in tears he was so overwhelmed with emotion.
-
i think sparks should be worried. Hutch is saying and doing all of the right things. In his post game interview he genuinely spoke about how special it is to play for toronto and that he is doing his best to take the opportunity and run with it. Hes not the heir to the throne so to speak. I sometimes feel like Sparks believes that he deserves the back up spot because of the season he had last year with the marlies. Babock loves a guy that understands that getting to play in the NHL for the leafs is a special thing. Remember though, Hutch is new, like any goalie it takes the NHL a little bit to figure out your cracks and then totally expose them. NHL players are so good they almost always inevitably start making good goalies look average after time. Thats the world we live in with film and analytics. Teams know where to shoot from and where to shoot. Jesus even Carey Price looks extremely mediocre now. Thats how good these guys are. Good for Hutch though, he definitely has a calmin presence around him as well, which i think sparks lacks with his more wildstyle aggressive goaltending.

man that things like a mythical beast well done!

Lol when the sens win the draft lottery this year, how sweet it’s going to be to see it go to Colorado hahaha. chris d help is the only necessity at this point, especially with the way ozighanov and hainsey have been playing lately

The rare glass tiller..very cool anyone that doesn’t like a glass boat probably has a few screws loose, most likely from being bashed around in a tin can ?

There’s a joke to be made in this thread somewhere...? thanks for the tip though, I use magic erasers to clean my sneakers (also a hot tip) and as such I’ve got a huge supply from when canadian tire was selling them for .50 cents a piece
