  1. Im surprised no one here is talking about the YouTube sensation this ice season that is cutting out 6x6 holes in the ice. i don’t think this is talking about holes that you have drilled, it’s talking about the guys cutting out sight fishing holes on lakes. uncut angling and jay siemens have been cutting huge holes this year and it’s a bit of a troubling trend because although those guys are responsible and are making their holes very well and making disclaimers in the videos to ensure you mark your holes, you just know that some idiot is going to Watch YouTube and then go out right off the access on cooks bay and cut an 8x8 hole in the ice and not mark it. the hole will skim over with a thin layer of snow and some poor bugger is going to fall right into it...I can already see it coming
  2. Family friend has an e tech and has had electrical issues with it. We owned a 94 Johnson v4 and it also died due to consistent electrical problems, it’s somewhat more irrelevant though because it’s not the same motor, just the same company. Their reliability from personal experience and those of my friends that use evinrude, mercury, yamaha, Honda and suzuki I would rank them last in reliability. Performance is good though.
  3. I know of a first hand account of this happening in muskoka. My best friend was at a cottage with his girlfriends family and her uncle literally got decapitated. Not sure why it’s a stupid statement.
  4. Like any article, take it with a grain of salt. I do agree though that if you chainsaw out a site fishing hole in a commonly traveled area and dont mark it...you are 1 a total idiot with complete disregard for other people 2. I can see how in court you could definitely be held legally accountable. Its not much different than stringing out fence wire at neck level on a commonly snowmobiled area. Someone gets decapitated you as the guy who strung that wire could be held accountable.
  5. stakes are indeed higher in a war. What is more incredible is that the people that fight it are underpaid and are usually engaged simply out of the goodness of their hearts and loyalty to their country. I'm not even certain that in 2019 we would ever see the level of volunteering we saw in previous world wars should a similar world war type sistuation were to occur. People have instagrams to feed you know. The war situation is scarier, but at the NHL level with 80 million dollars in salary on the line the stakes are actually higher than one thinks. I think sometimes people forget that the margin between making 10 mill per year and 50k a year is about 1 in 5ish thousand. People forget just how crazy few people get to have a career in the NHL. Furthermore most of these players have devoted their entire life to their craft. Literally from the time they were 4 years old they have been groomed to be the player that they are, they dont know much of anything other than hockey. So to them its not just a game, its a job, life, and all they know. Hence why you see such downfall for players that dont get to remain part of the game somehow, be it through coaching management scouting etc. If your career gets cut short your options as a 16 year old highschool drop out that left home to play in the OHL are actually pretty bleak. I remember Randy Carlyle trying to explain to nazem kadri that every time he loses a faceoff, the opposing centre is taking money out of his pocket. This has nothing to do with discounting veterans and what they have done for our country. Im proud to have had had and still have veterans within my family, cousins who served in Afghanistan right back to grandfathers that served during WW2. I can appreciate the fact that I could never understand the experiences that vets go through, but i can understand how similar coaching/leading techniques are used when trying to get people to do hard physical tasks where the stakes are the highest in their respective field.
  6. Marner came out today and straight up said that he messaged babcock and thanked him for helping him become the player that he is. Standard media over hype if you ask me.
  7. This is an Ontario fishing forum after all. And the leafs fan base is the biggest in the entire NHL, so it’s not surprising there is a disproportionate amount of leafs chatter, but matt is the only Ottawa fan here lol the ratios don’t add up. I think we know why!
  8. lol matt comes here and theres not a single sens fan for him to even talk with.
  9. It’s fine, you fail to see the direct correlation between the structure of the military and professional sports franchises. I think the parallels between hockey and anything else in the world, the military is about as close as anything gets. Difference of opinions. group of warriors with a hard physical task, teamed against a foe, lead by a group of non conbatitve leaders, that strategically plan how to win. Winner is the group that physically is stronger, more skilled, tougher, has better moral, has the better strategy and is more committed to the cause. Throw a little luck in the mix. i guess I’m crazy though
  10. That’s fine I haven’t coached or played in the NHL. look at the personalities of the best coaches in the nhl, and football for that matter. You can somewhat predict/understand what they are all about. Times are changing and players need to be nurtured more and congratulated for doing a great job, so yes this new wave of players require some different coaching. But at the same time look at the kind of players that all of these young guys have turned into under babcock. Mitch marner a small offensive wiz is a legitimate defensive threat penalty killer, surely Babcock deserves no credit for that because he was mean to Mitch before. This ties right back to the culture of participation medals that we are moving towards. Holding people to 2019 standards for things that happened in the past. We know babcock is oldschool. He coached oldschool, he was mean, a hard ass, ruthless. don cherry was told by a coach in Rochester that if he didn’t play with a broken foot that the coach would personally end his career. im sure torts has never made a player mad either right?
  11. On second thought...you are definitely right...it’s worth it for tacos 🌮 mmmmmmmmm
  12. Marner was a rookie and Babcock wasn’t happy with how he was playing. He also wasn’t happy with how Naz or Bozak we’re playing. He asked marner to list the guys on how hard they worked and then told everyone what marner said without his permission. It rattled marner and made him upset. mike commodore is butthurt still cause babcock called him fat and useless and ended his career. Sheldon Keefe was also coached by an absolute maniac, the problem with david frost is that he was also a total weirdo and sexually abused the kids as well. The guy psychologically brainwashed those kids into being ruthless soldiers for him. And they won and won and won. It’s really messed up because he did it to kids knowing he could take advantage of them and monetarily gain from them making the nhl and representing them as their agent. That’s what’s horrible about that story. my point is that unless you have played in the NHL, you have no friggin clue what it takes/how you need to coach in order to get people to do stuff that seems inconceivable. Psychologically breaking people down and then building them up is part of how you do it. Kadri came out two days ago and said he likes Babcock and to be honest he probably owes some of the success in his career to him. i talked to my dad about this. I asked him why in the hell did you push forward and harder when your command were so brutal to you while you were training in the military, and his reply was that it simply was because you knew that they were pushing you to your limits for the sake of making you feel like you were capable of doing anything. You wanted to prove them wrong. They psychologically and physically toughened them until they were hard as nails and ready to fight through anything. theres no crying to the HR department, that’s what you get paid for. You really think players that play for Bill bellichic are big fans of his personality? They like winning, that’s what makes it worth it in the end. I get it, times have changed and players need to be patted on the back, but hockey doesn’t need to turn into the bloody NBA where the stars are a bunch pre-madonas that cry about their coaches and teammates while flopping and diving all over the court. look at Lebron, the guy runs the entire organization, gets coaches fired, talks crap about his teammates, pulls out the race card any time someone questions him. It’s a joke.
  13. i dont know...cry me a river I think of it like this...who are widely recognized as the most lethal well trained employees in the world? Navy Seals/special forces. Look at their training. Its not a walk in the park and they arent paid 11 million dollars a year either. Its widely known that scotty bowmans players didnt like him either, he was a total hard ass. His players like winning though. This screams "my feelings are hurt, im offended" If im going to war, my sargeant doesnt need to be my best cuddle buddy, he needs to get me through the war and to finish the job. I get it, theres some seriously questionable stuff babcok did like sitting spezza, this ones a bit weird, but at the same time translates "accountability to your teammates" he may have gone about it the wrong way, but the way hockey twitter etc is blowing up right now with people saying "OH GOD HOW DARE BABCOCK BE A HARDASS AND MEAN TO HIS ROOKIES WHEN THEY ARE PLAYING LIKE POOP" give me a break.
  14. nice catch...but i dont know who in the hell would want to eat that thing unless you are into lead poisoning and cancer. Could you imagine the level of biomagnification goin on in a predatory fish that size. Yeeesh
  15. That’s a deal nose bleeds are more than that for the hockey night in canada games
  16. Jesus, I hope you didn’t have to pay for those bad boys
  17. looks like a regular ski to me as well nice catch either way
  18. I’m waking up my old tinner on Friday, trick is I gotta get that old 88 suzuki that hasn’t run in two years to fire up. Probably going to spend Friday cleaning the carb and plugs and wiring the boats trolling motor up for one last crack at some giant walleye. Mother nature almost had us busting out the short rods, but if she wants to throw a curve ball I plan on swinging at it. At minimum we may get one last meal of pickerel tacos out of it!
  19. Serious question..../my opinion Mike Babcok is quiet literally the perfect Coaches Corner Replacement. Oldschool guy, quirky, a personality, while also not being completely tone deaf.
  20. Leafs just fired babs, keefe the new coach according to leafs PR. Poor guy is inheriting a tire fire.
  21. Rich... Beware of slugs that hide in sheeps clothing. Matt comes out with his russian troll burner account and talks a whole pile of junk and tells us all to "suck it" he immediately gets nailed by the admins and comes back with a nice wholesome reply. GTFOH
  22. dont believe the hype the sens are hot at the moment and their record is still abysmal. All its doing is guaranteeing that they dont get the first overall pick again. I love the Blue and White Disease talk coming from a sens fan...id rather be diseased with the chance for a cure then just outright dead like that franchise. I dont think they make it through the next decade as an organization.
  23. hmmm may have to give the lake floor around the boat house a rake with a stringer this weekend. this small warm stretch may eat up the new ice that we have. I Lost a rod (no reel thank god) at some point this fall, not sure if it fell off of the boathouse, or overboard at some point Dont feel too bad about those cold stretches bunk, I pushed through the October early november gails, That 100kmh wind storm, ya i was out fishing musky in it lol cranked blades so hard my reel exploded, nearly went hungry one saturday after spending hours chasing a bite leaving almost not enough time to catch dinner (got lucky marked a walleye and it was a perfect outside of the slot eater) All to just put the boat away without sliming it! November 9th the lower end oil was changed and the batteries pulled out of the rig the navigloo went up and 10 hours later she was buried in a snow squall warnings snow. I guess my big fall g bay musky dreams will have to wait until next year. Ill have to get to the other reports, my boss needs me to work, go figure!
  24. Funny I was at a wedding in the hammer this weekend and the eskis were staying at my hotel. some big boys hanging around the lobby and elevators holy crepe
