  1. It depends. If you wait for end of year sales, you get what is left over. Not neccissarilly what you want. There are some good deals out there right now. I am just having a hard time trying to figure out what I want. I think I have the boats narrowed down, I just have to decide. Good luck on your hunt.
  2. "Did I disappoint you, or leave a bad taste in your mouth?"-U2 "I may look good now, but I'm fat when I'm naked!!!"-me (worked wonders in the bar) "On it like a fat kid on a Smartie"-Unknown
  3. All the hype about the new lure that Dave Mercer was bring to BPS on the 22 and I cannot find anything on it. Did anyone get one or see what it was? Is it a Subway wrapper? Just joking Dave.
  4. I live on the water and can get out fishing within five minutes. The weather has had more of an impact on my time on the water than the gas. I still go out whenever. One thing I did was put on a new engine that is more fuel efficient. I saved $60.00 in just one week of boating with the new motor, and it is only supposed to get better. As for taking fish home. I do take some, but I always put more back than I keep. We are going to the cottage for the long weekend with family so I am stocking the freezer for a fish fry. Nothing outragous, just enough for one meal. As for off setting the cost of food. No, I will not take home more fish to suppliment other food costs.
  5. Nice work. The pike will be more aggressive than the eyes, so that would be the casue for what you caught. Setting anchor and casting into your hump will work wonders instead of having to troll all around it. I was having my trolling motor work intermitantly. Found out that the contact on the battery was not that great. Put a washer on there and all is good.
  6. Races are right here in Brockville. I wish I had the day off to go see them. My boss is such a hard depending on where you are on the boat you could zip down. Might be easier to get back to the car then drive.
  7. I just found out they had internet on computers now, so I thought I would try.
  8. You could do it in a yak. If you are in Lansdowne, go to Caigers or ivy lea to launch. Both are on the parkway. Keep in mind that there will be heavy boat traffic in the area. All around Grenadeire Island is good for pike. If you are going in the Kayak you might even want to go to Landons bay for pike. Again it is on the Parkway going towards Gan. You can park at the bridge and launch right there.
  9. No viruses. Did what you said Cliff and it seems to be working. Thanks. Odd that it was just this site though?
  10. Can't see my post, but I think I forgot to mention that there are Hydroplane boat races going on here Saturday, if you canvince the group to go for a boat ride. Be fun to watch out on the water.
  11. I'm logged in for one thread and then logged out for the next. I can only read what I read yesterday. Anything new is gone? What's going on? Any ideas? Hopefully I'll see them.
  12. Was out last night. The suface is 61 degrees Far, that is. I've been catching pike anywhere from 2-10 feet of water. Eyes about 25-40 feet. Stupid bass (that is until the season opens) are everywhere. Lures of choice right now are Husky Jerks for casting 5 1/2". Tail dancers and deep reef runners for trolling. Are you getting a little aluminum to scoot around in, or just the house boat?
  13. I bought a Triton early last spring. Mounted it on a Compre 7' MH rod. Great setup. I use it a lot, and have no complaints. Did take a bit of getting used to as for the birds nests (newbie to baitcasters), but now that I have it dialed in it is great. I would buy another one for sure. A handy tool to get is a baitcast pick to help untie the nest. I also back mine up with white or yellow electrical tape (using Power Pro 50 lbs. line) so that I can see when I am near the end.
  14. https://www.stlawrenceoutfitters.com/xlsws_...ndex.php?c=root These guys are about 5-10 minutes east of Gan. They supply my habit really well. They are in contact with locals and can tell you a few spots to hit. There is a Canadian Tire in Gan as well, but do not know what they have. I'm 30 minutes east of gan and have a few spots I could share if you are going to be closer to Brockville. The St. Lawrence is a great place to cruise around. Make sure to see as much as you can.
  15. I got mine this morning. I do remember filling out their questionaire. Don't remember winning. It is probably a sample. Looks like a lot of good reading. good thing my wife will see the fish on it and not be bothered, other wise I would have to hide it with the "women fishing". Thanks Bass man.
  16. Don't tease us, what did you get?
  17. I can't say I have even heard of a combo battery. I wouldn't get it if I did. It probably cranks ok, and works the trolling motor ok, but nothing great. Plus it's like a tv vcr combo, when one is broke the whole thing is broke.
  18. I have insurance for all of the above. I cannot afford to risk anything happening to someone, my equipment or myself.
  19. I have photo copies of all my papers with me. We keep all this stuff, fishing lic., wallet, car keys, etc. All in a waterproof stuff sack. That way everything is together and we know we have it because the key to the boat goes in it when we are not using it. Also keep the phone and camera in here when it is rainy. This way all we have to do is grab the "boat bag" and we know we have everything.
  20. Ok here's my story. I went to school for hotel and restaurant management. Got one year under my belt. Went out to Jasper Albeta for a summer (three months). Got a job as a bartender/server. Decided not to go back to school and went to Australia instead for 6 months. Worked there as a bartender. I then proceeded to go back out to Jasper. Again as a bartender. Then I moved on to Vancouver as a bike rental dude. That lasted 3 months. Ended up back in Jasper. This time as a bike mechanic. Also did some bartending on the side. I then got into being a white water raft guide. Moving into management positions with all three jobs. Man I worked a lot. Fastforward to here in Brockville. My van broke and I had to get a job to fix it. Spent a winter here in a sports store. In the spring I moved back out to, you got it, Jasper. When the summer was over I headed back east to a job in the sports store again. I then got the oportunity to manage a new bike shop in town. After a year and a half, I bought the business. Going on my third year now. For the most part I love it. Although this spring has been very draining on me as it is really busy. A great problem to have, I am in no way complaining. I never did finish school. I will never be rich. But I have lived one heck of a life. I have some regrets about not getting the "suit" job, because of the financial stability. But for everything I have seen and done, I would never change a thing. Moral of the story, live your life. Things always happen for a reason. Your career will find you.
  21. E-Tec is an Evinrude. I'm sure some more people would like to get it on their trucks. The amount of driving I did last night would have burned $40.00 of gas with my old motor. Didn't even move the gas line. I know what their motive is. They want me to buy a boat. They have already asked me to order one. As for the tug of war, that's what has been happening with the marina that I live at. I tried to buy from them, but they make my life miserable and take forever to do a half job. I cannot say how good the service was at the other marina. I cannot wait to go out again tonight. I might even take a fishing rod with me. Who wants to go for a ride?
  22. Yes, no matter what his age is.
  23. Congratulations for the great changes in your life. It's a scary step to take. Please excuse me while I wipe the drool off my face and keyboard. That is a very nice boat. I remember when I first starting thinking about boats a couple of years ago, that was the boat that stood out as the one I want. I still dream about it, but know it is not a realitly. Way to go. Better get some nice flowers for your wife.
  24. Since mid winter I have been trying to find the boat package I would really like to be in. Had mine up for sale. Had some interest, but it did not sell. Probably because I wasn't really trying. I came to the realization that I really could not afford a package anyways. So I started pricing motors. Had a local marina give me a really, I mean really good price on one last Thursday. I figured I would get the motor now and then swap it when I find a boat. Took my boat to them on Monday morning. It was done yesterday morning. I was flabergasted. Two days to get my boat done at this time of year. I was expecting a couple of weeks. They even fixed a few rivets, rewired my tack, tilt and gas gauges. They offered to stay late for me last night to come and get it. Took me out for a cruise and showed me how it worked, then had me take a go at it. They talked me through everything and answered all of my questions. Their service was unbelievable. Thank you very much Kelseys Marine. I now have a 75 E-Tec on my Lowe Stinger 170. This boat boogies. It is so much more stable in the waves. It's quieter, and uses no gas. Top speed is 45 mph with a comfortable cruising at 35 mph. The sad part is I do not have a picture of it yet because I did not want to get out of the boat last night, I was too busy cruising up and down the river.
