  1. One that puts me on the fish. Doesn't really matter to me.
  2. So all of this talk about the giant eyes in Picton have me debating by the minute, do I want to go? Part of me says yes, the other says stay home and fish here, less hassle. I am limited to time, Sundays only. But that means all Sunday, no time limit. I go out early and come home when I am done. It's nothing for me to spend 12 hours on the water. The part that is holding me back is my boat and company. It's on the edge for size. Mind you for trolling it's not a big deal unless the waves are a crashing. I know when to call it a day. I've been out in some really nasty stuff on the St. Lawrence and had no problems. I'm also a white water raft guide and Swift Water Rescue Tech., so I am comfortable on the water, but not stupid. Also I fish alone most of the time, which can be a pain in the bass in rough water. I'm sure that if someone said, I'll go with you, I'd be there. I could take 1 person comfortably 2 at the most, as I only have 2 seats and a deck to sit on. Or if someone said, hey I've got a spot on my boat, I'd be on that too. So what do you think? Anyone want to push me off the fence?
  3. Hello to you too!! Was thinking the same thing as Bassman Shelly and Courtney?
  4. Nice pics!!! Haven't caught a pike since spring, I can't wait to get another. Scott
  5. I guess this is what happens when you go down the road pulling a catwalk? Deer was just popping out to say keep the front wheel down buddy. I usually see it happen with road and mountain bikes. Nice to see it happen on a motorized vehicle as well. Scott
  6. Sorry to here the bad news. Glad to hear you had a good trip though. I didn't even think (well ya I did) about going out yesterday it was so windy and wavy. I just wasn't in the mood to fight the boat. As for the mask. You should have gotten it. I picked one up about a month ago. It is great. My face is nice and warm, no bugs, water, etc.
  7. Good luck on the boat ccmtcanada. I know when I got mine I couldn't wait to get off the shore line. Unfortunately nothing was open so all I could do is zoom around looking for spots. You've got lots of time to get in some prime fishing!
  8. I'm at work procrastinating. Wishing I was fishing. So this will have to do!!!
  9. That's it? What satelites I am recieving. I'm guessing that is the circle graph, because the rest is really easy as to location, alt, etc. I got the unit used from my brother in law and thought it might have been his hotspots orsomething. Now I guess it's even more useless information than I thought.
  10. Nice catch on the fish!!! Tennesseeguy, what is that graph? I have it on my unit, but have no idea what it is for or how to use it. The top picture that is, I know how the depth finder works. Mine always tells me where the fish aren't at;)
  11. Nice pics. Down here it was the same kind of weather. Unfortunately I didn't get on the water as I was building a new snowshoe trail. You still landed 2 pike, gotta look at it that way. Sometimes the LDR is a good thing. You don't get yourself and your boat all smelly;)
  12. Being in the retail business (not fishing) I feel I should comment. Yes stuff in the U.S. is cheaper right now, sometimes, because of the dollar. The retailer really has no choice in the prices. The product was bought maybe up to a year ago at a set price. The retailer does not get compinsation to sell cheaper. They just get to make even less money. Even the suppliers for these products have their hands tied somewhat. I am in the midst of ordering a lot of product for next year, taking this into consideration. Being a smaller retailer I do not get the big discounts that the big boys get. It's not like gas where the price can flucuate by the second. I still do not understand that situation. Being a smaller retailer though, I can offer you the service. As does the outfitters that I get all my fishing stuff from. They give me tips on locations, lures to use, support local derbies, etc. There is no hidden costs to shop from them. Such border fees, gas, time, duty, etc. I will pay more to support the local guys because I want to help keep them there. They are a great piece of knowledge for me, and have made my reintroduction to fishing a very pleasant experience. I want to be able to go to them in the future when the dollar changes again. What goes around comes around. By spending your money at the local tackle shop means they can spend money locally for what they want need. The buck doesn't stop once you buy something. If you spend locally the local economy will grow. If you spend it elsewhere there economy grows. Not looking for a debate, I just thought I would chime in on how pricing works.
  13. Thanks Sheldon, I have been out in some rough stuff here, but I know the water here. Also it's easy to get off the water here and call it a day. I just don't want to trailer for 1.5 hrs to play in rough water. Also where do I ramp in and out? Is the best fishing just east of the Ferry? Thanks
  14. I'd like to head down to the massive ferry area to go fish, maybe on the 28th. I'm just a bit nervous of my boat not being enough. It's a Lowe 170 with a 50 Evinrude. Basically a modified Jon boat. Does anyone have experience with this size boat on that water? I grew up on East lake in Picton, but never made it out to the reach to fish.
  15. From one newbie to another, pleased to meet you. Hawg tied, sounds like a drunk night in college or something:) Great start. Nice to see you didn't get out of fishing completely.
  16. Thanks for all the kind welcomes. Thought about being just Cranks, as that is what my business is called. A running joke in the familly though is when we bought the boat it got knicknamed Cranks Bait, so it took. As for a great wife, you bet. I get her out every now and then. I even catch her watching WFN sometimes. She's caught some little guys, but still gets upset because I have lures bigger than her fish. As for getting skunked. Oh ya, it happens. A lot. It kind of goes with being on the water for about 4 days a week. It's still a good day on the water the way I look at it though, as frustrating it may be at the time. Oh ya, Swiss Chalet, I only go there at Christmas to get the fries and Lindt chocolates!!!

  18. I was given a spool of Vicious to try this summer. It was the new Ultimate not the floro. I personally did not like it. It had no feel to the line at all. I caught several fish and didn't even know until they were at the boat. I know someone else who tried it and had the same results. He though it was just him.
  19. I've already added some pics in my profile to check out. As for reports... The best one so far is one crappy, and I mean crappy, day a bunch of bass boats went zipping by my house. Of course I'm drooling out the window watching, debating on whether or not to go out. I held out till the afternoon. Doned a rain suit and went out for about 2 hrs. Just as I was packing up the boats were heading back home. I found out later that it was a Bass master tournament or something of the sort. I started out with my first cast catching a 6.2 lbs smallie. Pretty much every cast after that had a fish. I think I landed about 20 to 30 bass, I couldn't keep track. The kicker of the story is I also found out that Bob Izumi and his son were participating and fishing in a spot that I go to every now and then. Apparently Jr caught the biggist fish of the day 5 1/2 lbs or something like that. I never wanted to be in a tournament more than that day. As for lures costing more now? I know I have more than my allowance to spend on lures (which can be a bad thing). I also now know what to look for instead of the neatest looking one at the corner store, and drag it behind the boat hoping I catch something.
  20. Hi all, I've been lurking for a bit, and finally get time to post. Just want to introduce myself. Name is Scott, from Brockville. I got back into fishing last year after not doing it for about 20 years. I got hooked pretty bad. Got myself a boat this year and get out a bunch after work and weekends. I have come a long way in the past year, as far as knowledge and what to do with a lure. Although there is still a lot more for me to know. I have now taken the time to join some forums to hopefully meet others with the same interest. Maybe find some new areas to head to. I know my wife would like that, she's always joking for me to take off for a weekend. I'm also trying to find out about local derby's/tournaments. Although this is the wrong time of year for the most part. Hopefully one day I will have some tips to pass on.
