Great report Jocko...sounds like an enjoyable day...pickerel or not. I've actually been reading decent reports of pickerel...and even a few walleye being caught in the South Shore area...just about everything I've heard said 30 FOW was the ticket...so I WAS a bit surprised to hear you didn't come across any in 25. The other theory going around is that the smelt population is quite healthy...I know people getting good pickerel action have been using stuff that looks somewhat smelt-ish... Ah well...back out you go!

Have you tried calling any of the local bait shops up there? they should know....off the top of m head there's Minnow Man in Bracebridge, and Bait on the Lake just outside Bala...BOTL is my go-to guy...I'd give him a call. From everything I've heard, I'd head out on foot with no worries, but, I don't have any solid info for you regarding that portion of the lake.

In my last 7 years selling vehicles at the dealership I work at, this is what I've learned: - With every ad in the newspaper at dealer cost, there is little to no room for negotiating on a new vehicle - Financing is more attractive to the dealership (not the salesperson though) than cash, but it's rarely a bargaining chip either way - More profit is made on used cars, but the bulk of a dealership's revenue comes from the service dept. - If I don't make a commission, I don't get paid...selling ten cars a month for the minimum commission of $150 or $200 isn't going to pay the bills. So not every offer is acceptable. -****car cost Canada is a waste of time and money. Anyone can walk in to my office and ask to see the cost of any of our vehicles...there's nothing to hide. - there are a ridiculous amount of dishonest/unscrupulous dealers/salespeople out there..I truly don't know how they stay in business. But there ARE some good guys.

Actually reminded me of a funny story my dad told me...working at one of the steel mills as a young guy, he snuck away for a nap one day. Came back out after a half hour, thinking nobody had seen him. The guys asked him if he had a nice nap...which of course he denied vehemently...then the guys ask him why he painted the heels of his boots bright yellow. Which is when he turned a bright shade of red...they painted 'em while he was dozing

Yup..nice and cold at night....little bit of rain...more and more ice! I think a pair of skates will make those long walks on Simcoe a heck of a lot easier
