  1. Dang I miss this board....reports like this are great! Altho I thought I was going to see a 31" whitie.....sniff....guess I'll wait till next year
  2. Yes, I guess it's technically Bramalea....or Bramaladesh....or something like that
  3. Got somebody's outdoors card in the mail today....looks like you used to live here, but they don't have or didn't process your change of address. So if your name is Brian and you used to live in the J section of Brampton and haven't received your card, I have it. I'll hang on to it for a couple days just in case you see this, then throw it in the mail and send it back to Peterborough. Just drop me a line on the board....PM's go right to my phone.
  4. I grabbed those last year from Princess Auto....couldn't turn'em down for $2. I like the colour and profile of the plastic body....not sure if the light helps or hurts. Did get a real close look from a couple lakers on Simcoe....but I hadn't yet clued into the idea of making them chase so I never closed the deal.
  5. I was out on Friday, got 4 pike. Nothing crazy....between 17 and 23 inches....but great fights on the light rod. I don't think I would have caught a THING if it weren't for a friendly old timer I was chatting with. He never stops moving the salted minnow that he has on a jig. Actually, he stores his minnows in barley...doesn't like salties. I had salties though,,,,had no trouble. I had one on a dead stick, and was jigging flashy spoons, rattling lures, etc, to bring in fish. Not a sniff. After the old guy iced 4 pike to my none, I decided to take his advice on moving the minnow around. Plain jighead and a dead minnow....just bob the rod tip so the minnow doesn't sit still, and hang on! I still switched between that and the loud lures to draw fish in,...but they weren't interested in hitting lures. As for panfish....I don't know. Shallow water for crappies, and a long walk to the back where there is supposedly deeper water.
  6. I like that case....I've been using a soft-sided thermal bag for years.....starting to break down a bit now. If you're in deep stuff, you'll definitely appreciate the ice ducer....either way you have a super slick setup
  7. I really think I would think twice before calling 911 in light of this. No matter what the temperature or conditions, I feel I would be branded as careless and negligent, and that I should have known better. I wonder how many other people were on the ice that night, when Neil R. got disoriented? I would be willing to bet he wasn't the only one out there. I wonder why so many firefighters were sent, when he was already on shore? Was it poor communication with the dispatcher? Were they being extra cautious? Could be a good reason....but I still wonder why so many personnel got sent for a guy who was lost in the fog, and already on shore. How come 26 fishermen that got rescued by air boats and helicopters (last spring) paid $200 each? 200 x 26 = $5200. Sounds like a pretty good deal for all that highpowered equipment compared to what Neil got. If he was out there hopping pressure cracks....if he was the only person who ventured on the ice that day....if he drove a vehicle out....then ok....I would be saying he had it coming. But he went out, and came back, and the ice was fine. He got lost in the fog, and wandered into a marshy area....marshy areas have bad ice even when the rest of the lake is good. He called emergency services, and they did their job. They did what the township pays for them to do.
  8. LOL - after reading the rest, I do agree that float suit on sounds risky. So in addition to opening the sunroof, I'm rigging up hand levers so I can sit on the roof and drive
  9. I've only read to the end of page one, so I'm commenting on the floater suit / trapped in the car situtation. Sunroof open. Float suit on. That is all.
  10. I just saw that I typo'd that BIG TIME. What I originally typed was "we should hook up on Gull this winter, since we never seem to connect in the summer". Either way though....I'll drop you a line....soon I hope
  11. Nice work, Chris! I'm thinking we should hook up on Gull in the summer
  12. That's phenomenal....good job out there!
  13. Nice video...I really like that tip-up/rodholder dealy
  14. Fantastic fish....pic is worthy of a magazine cover. Congrats!
  15. A rattling lipless crank is a good way to start too....rip it for a few minutes to draw fish over to your area
  16. I came up with a system for the rods in my Jeep Patriot this past summer. I took 2 bungee cords, twisted them together, and hooked them across the ceiling at the back. I had some vents back there that they fit into, so I'm not damaging anything. I then took a ratchet strap for the front, and stretched it tight between the front seat assist handles in the roof liner. I slip the rod butts in the "twists" of the bungee, and the tips rest on the ratchet strap. I then loop an elastic band over the rod and ratchet strap....stretching it snug but not too tight around the nearest eyelet. Rods ride along the roof, pretty much between the two front seats and never get crushed or in the way of heads, arms, or luggage. I maxed out at around 10 or 11 rods at a time.
  17. I'm impressed, Chris....that's the way backlake trips are supposed to go!
  18. Well done, Chad....lots of work and lots of reward.
  19. 31 hour round trip....walked on 4 lakes....fished 3....worked hard and got that inevitable skunking out of the way. It'll only get better from here!

  20. I think those'll be fine. I picked up the insulated Baffin's from Canadian tire a couple years ago.....green rubbber with liners. Think I got'em for $50 around this time....now they're pretty much all I wear on the ice.
  21. Saw this on facebook, Wayne....pretty rough. But all the more reason to keep your chin up and be as supportive and positive as you have been all along the way.
  22. MMMMMMM.......melmet mount.....
  23. I think that they made some changes to them for 2013, as there was a whole pile of these being sold off very cheap over the last few months. I picked a few up for $1.50 online...probably paid the same as you after shipping.....good action, cast a mile, dive nice and deep. Didn't work'em too hard though, so no bitemarks on mine yet.
  24. Ok...finally you've posted an insane ice report. NOWWWWW I can go icefishing
  25. Terry is right on the button.
