  1. I think that, considering no more action was taken beyond taking their names/info down, it had the effect of a pretty stiff warning. It's up to the MNR if they want to leave it at that, or put in a phone call with an even more official warning. Really encouraging to see all of us outdoors people so willing and supportive of doing something when we see people ruining our sport with illegal activity. Good on all of ya, I say
  2. those 'r some beauties! I knew I should've got some time in before work this morning!
  3. Sorry man...I've never fished any of those, but I'm pretty sure that Esker Lakes has quite a reputation for good fishing. Hopefully there are some more knowledgeable people on here who can share their experience
  4. and I thought I was hungry BEFORE I opened that post up...definitely a big burger for lunch today. Anybody like to put some rolled oats in with the meat? Dad has been doing that the past few summers and it's great! Gotta try that frozen garlic butter trick though!
  5. I can't even believe that is real! The website caption says it best..."dinghy + hang glider + engine = hilarious obituary"
  6. wow. what a pair of jerks...but at least you got the message across without anything getting out of hand. Good for you for keeping your cool.
  7. Yup! I'm sure you won't be the only one either --- I remember going down and keeping the fire going through the night so we could fish from midnight into the morning --- I also remember not catching anything until the sun came up Good luck!
  8. Hey, I've been to Cat Island! Did you stay on the island, or just take a charter down there to fish? Awesome fishing down there....I only brought a lightweight rod and fished the tidal creeks...had some incredible action....even hooked one of those nice reef sharks! Nice pics and thanks for sharing
  9. Whether you buy a $2 or a $12 spinnerbait, here is my best tip to keeping them alive a little longer -- specifically with pike in mind: Take the wire out of a twist tie (the paper/plastic comes off easily enough with your fingernails) and, wrap it around the skirt, directly behind the elastic band that is holding the skirt on. After a couple wraps, use a pair of pliers to twist the wire a couple times so it stays nice and tight, and clip off the excess. This won't help crappy blades/swivels work any better, but it sure will hold that skirt on forever.
  10. 30 inches! where is Gullrock lake?
  11. My vote would also be the French...what Solo said. Another decent area is at the bottom of 5 mile rapids...you would launch from Dry Pine bay, go through Lost Child Bend, and be on your way to the rapids. Even Dry Pine bay itself has some decent fishing...I believe the launch is at Loon Lodge....pm me if you would like more specific details...I will look it up.
  12. thanks for the info, guys! It is coming down to a super tough decision between ice-out lakers on a certain lake up north, or draggin' jigs on the St.Clair...good luck to you
  13. Definitely love the bags...a comfortable shoulder strap is great so you can carry it and your canoe at the same time...cuts down on trips from the car I got the "Rapala" (made by someone else with Rapala badges all over it) bag that is insulated as well -- great for keeping beverages AND worms a little cooler. Look for something with accessory pockets that will hold pliers, multi-tools, etc. on the outside.
  14. I spent a year down in Sarnia and remember the exceptional walleye fishing around this time of year, but now that I'm a good 3 hour drive from the St. Clair, it's hard to keep tabs on whether or not the night bite is on. Just wondering if anyone on the board is down in that area and can tell me what's been going on? I'm thinking about driving down this weekend with a pile of white and green twister tails...just don't know if the time is right. Any reports/updates would be GREATLY appreciated
  15. An exciting report nonetheless...what with all the throat slashing, baitfish smushing, reel screaming action. I expect some pics from round II
  16. WOW! Very nicely done -- always a bit dicey trying out a new species, but you guys really cleaned up!
  17. Heading up to see the folks in Muskoka...MIGHT see how well the canoe floats....and if there are any ice-out lakers around....if I get a couple hours to spare. If not, just helping out mom and dad with whatever they are up to lately..maybe a quick stop at the narrows for some perch on the way back home could work though....hmmm...
  18. You could always call your local GM dealership and ask for a sales rep...people do it to me alllll the time. 'cept I don't work at a GM store....so I can't help ya there. HOWEVER, after goggling "99 Jimmy V6 tow capacity" I came up with a 5000 lb tow capacity, pretty quickly...didn't dig too deep though. Owner's manual might tell you as well.
  19. My only experience has been on a small silver spoon retrieved pretty quick and jerky, on the St. Clair river...spoon had a small treble hook, which grabbed their snout nicely, as smbhunter was explaining. Next question: Anybody ever eat one?
  20. yess, it WAS an SNL link that I sent you...don't know why it's not linking....but at least you got the joke.
  21. Thans for the heads-up, TB...sounds like the shore access at the narrows will be pretty crowded on the weekend....
  22. Actually, a lot of people will soak the cork....apparently a very popular techinique in Italy. Hopefully the link to this instructional video will work... http://www.zippyvideos.com/9273660133062716/italiantrade/
  23. That is one heck of a report...and a really memorable trip! way to go, and thanks for sharing
  24. I only fished the Missinaibi River and a couple small lakes off of it, from "Big Miss" up to Little Miss, and the walleye fishing was fantastic. I would imagine that you are in for a real treat if you're on any of the lakes in that Game Reserve on the May long weekend. If I remember to check my maps when I get home, I'll see if the lake you're talking about is anywhere near some of the other lakes I fished.
  25. I've got the same one as you've linked, Dan, and I really like it. Can't say that I've used it as much as I thought I would, but so far, so good. Before I got it, I got a Pink Lady, which I found worked really well (heeeere torpedo diverrrrrrr...)
