  1. I am in the market for a new tackle box and would like to benefit from some of the more experienced people on this board. I fish from a squareback canoe (hope to get a boat..........) and from the shore, what would suit me best. I do not have a lot of lures, however I do want to be able to store them properly, and as well snelled hooks are a PITA when they get tangled up. Thanks in advance.
  2. I am gonna put up a shad rap to the winner.
  3. I did the same thing this past week and found that I was able to catch cats on Fishmasters cut bait and not on the liver. I was fishing right of the point by his place, and had to cast out a very long ways to get to the fish. If your floatin' you may have better luck than I did I only caught 30lbs worth of cats, kept one for Sunday lunch, and enjoyed it immensley.
  4. Learn to cast with the mono, but change over to braid when you have that mastered.....
  5. Would you have an electrician rough in a bathroom drain system? I would suggest let those who know what they are doing do the job and stick to what you do best. How important is $ when you brakes fail with your family in the truck???
  6. After getting a lot of the to-do list taken care of today, I was able to head out to Fishmasters place to try for some cats. At dusk I finally had something on my rod..................... Then came the first fish! 5lbs 4 oz. After that the bite was on, the group I was near landed close to 10 fish all around 6 - 9 lbs
  7. I'm older than dirt, and the one lesson I have learned is to talk to people older than you because they tend to know more and do not mind sharing the knowledge.
  8. Whatever I am told to do during the day on Sat, evening I hope to go to the grand and put my rotted liver to use. Doh, it is my birthday party, that night............drat!

  10. Well one thing is apparent, when I buy my boat I am NOT gonna say one word about what brand of motor I have on it....... We need Lew on this thread to put out the flames!
  11. I wouldn't tow with Jimmy he's an Take George along instead. He at least knows how to joke and have fun.
  12. Ok hypothetically, we have a mechanical device that will put exactly the same forces on the rod and reel and the only variable is the reel.
  13. What is the best reel for casting distance and what is the best reel for accuracy The criteria is : same length rod, same action rod, the only variable is the reel!
  14. Reminds me of vine veni vexi ( I came I saw I conquered) I prefer veni vexi vine Apologies for the spelling

  24. Whether it is nobler in the mind to suffer the bumps and potholes or to go on with a undamaged tramsom .................. It is called a transom SAVER, I would think it is a smart thing to do. IMHO
  25. I went to Dunville this afternoon and washed some liver in the Grand. I was below the dam at the Dunville BBQ. Presentation was 1 square inch of turkey liver, on a snelled hook with 2 bell 3/8 oz tied 12" up the line from the bait holder. Rod 10' 6" with a curado baitcaster. (That is a whole other issue.........the eagles have landed more than once in my overruns ) I was able to cast about 25 - 30 feet into the river. I know I should be able to do much more, but that will come with practice. Weather conditions, overcast and about to rain, 4 - 6 degrees Celcius, water 2 - 3" visibility, fast flow. I did not have even a nibble, let alone a hit. There were fish surfacing and giving me the fin just to rub it in, but I manned up and waved back. Any real obvious mistakes, or more subtle mistakes apparent in my technique. Feel free to give CONSTRUCTIVE advice as I am still learning.
