How about leading by example instead of preaching? I've always found that more effective

I have an idea why don't we all just not fish? That way we wont worry about catching anything out of season, wont worry about vertical hold, won't worry about catch and release, wont worry about people with fishing licences, wont worry about people finding our spots.....Maybe I should just stick to fishing video games.

That's a good strengthening exercise however with an existing impingement he should be using no more then a two pound dumbell or even a light resistance band as the rotator is already wekend and it doesn't take much to tear.
