  1. Pretty happy with my current set up. Took me 20+ years to get there though. I would have to say I have learned not to purchase entry level stuff on the following. You'll only upgrade soon after and be left with that lower end stuff collecting dust - waste of money for me High powered Fish Finder and GPS Trolling Motor Downrigging rods and reels Things I would purchased and never found a value in Aqua View camera Storm Wildeye plastics Planer board mast Swim Whiz muskie plugs
  2. here's Gander site to check http://search.gandermountain.com/?cname=Tr...1000&N=1492
  3. Saw a guest at the lodge this year with a neat idea. They bought small square water tight storage tubs from the grocery store and they stacked perfectly in a small tackle bag like the Plano one that goes on sale at CTC. They labelled the side of each tub. I've seen some similar water tight tubs at Dollarama and thought they might work the same
  4. About 20 minutes up the road (north west) from Buffalo airport is Gander Mountain (google it for address). I was in there at Xmas and they had a decent display of Minn Kota and Motor guide bow mounts. It would be right on the way home if you cross back over to Canada at Niagara Falls I have it listed in my car GPS under favorites
  5. Having a problem with a couple small gel cells for a fish finder and after switching to a small transformer charger they are now back up to 100% and holding a charge Gelled Electrolyte: Gelled batteries, or "Gel Cells" contain acid that has been "gelled" by the addition of Silica Gel, turning the acid into a solid mass that looks like hard Jell-O. The advantage of these batteries is that it is impossible to spill acid even if they are broken - the disadvantage is that they must be charged at a slower rate (C/20) to prevent excess gas from damaging the cells. They cannot be fast charged on a conventional automotive charger or they may be permanently damaged. This is not usually a problem with solar electric systems, but if an auxiliary generator or inverter bulk charger is used, current must be limited to the manufacturers specifications. Most better inverters commonly used in solar electric systems can be set to limit charging current to the batteries.
  6. Never even got through the interview process at a science lab in Mississauga. This place used to prepare all the disecting samples for biology classes. Rows upon rows of 55G drums of worms, frogs, fetal pigs, cats in formaldehyde. Just a real nasty, dirty place. I kindly excused myself about halfway through the interview because of the smell in the front offices alone.
  7. Now what are we gonna get for Kaberle. I like these moves. A number one goalie for sure and someone on defense who can scare the crap out of the other teams forwards.
  8. WFN or the Playboy channel. Set up a booth at the fishing show.
  9. When I think back on last year I didn't really buy too many lures Best for 09 Dollarama blue/gold topwater chugger Dollarama green chartruese 4" minnow YUM Money Swimbaits (smallies knock the crap out of em in Temagami) Worst BPS Nitro Minnow SPRO Frog $10 and first fish ripped it apart ANY PLASTIC STORM MAKES JUNK JUNK JUNK
  10. I've seen a few of your pics and gotta ask. Is that a Fisher aluminum bass boat. I had a Grey Thunder version for a few years and loads of great memories in it. Looks like the same carpet, rod locker and disctint gunnel around the front deck Enjoy the warm weather. It was a balmy -15C yesterday with about 30km winds when I was gassing up the truck in Bolton. No gloves and only a light jacket for work.
  11. real easy say goodbye to photobucket
  12. I've always gone by the rule at or below the bottom of the ice. The other big thing would to attach (epoxy) a bubble level on the top of the transducer. http://turntablebasics.com/images/level.jpg This ensure when you set up the transducer the signal goes stright down and not off to the side. That way you get the strongest signal coming back to your transducer. I can tell now when mine is not set up right just by the signal and whether I'm picking up my jig or not.
  13. geez, I gotta to back on old thread and re-read things. Missed the whole T-shirt thing.
  14. fishing yes, just not with the wife!
  15. Ok unfair post right before lunch. My apple and leftover stew just won't cut it now> love those type of days with the whole family.
  16. Luv my Expedition too. I am fully doing my part to rid the world of fossil fules as fast as I can. 105L tank gets me and my boat from Oakville to North Bay. Have to fill up at North Bay to make it to Temagami. Got 195K on her now and she's still going strong. Too boot I can get a Clam Nanook and a Frabil Recon with all the extra gear in the back with the seats folded down. My next one will be an Expedition too.
  17. Hey guys, there's quite an undergound group of collectors for lures as well as decoys strictly for the art aspect. I started fish decoy collecting and my first purchase was for over $100. I spent almost a year chasing auctions on ebay and finally won . Too bad within the next month the guy completely vanished If anyone ever has seen any decoys from a guy named Tony Hughes please let me know
  18. Yeah another good one BT. Quinte has lots and very big ones too!! Seen some beast in Hay Bay over the years
  19. Same place as Drifter, I saw one that measured just under 46". It had been snagged in the back with a salmon spoon. This was just after they had shut the stacks down at Lakeview. Now I would bet on St Lawrence or Niagara for the big guys as well as Hamilton harbour but more towards the lake. Tend to see a bit bigger fish caught closer to the lake. We saw tons of carp this year cruising back around the marinas in HH but they all tended to be smaller than ones I see in Lake Ontario. I know there's some really big brutes cruising Bronte and 16 mile river mouth but never seen anytone catching them.
  20. Hey Ma looks like I need more $ this year, we gotta sell one of the kids!!! Thanks guys, I've narrowed my search down to the Humminbird 997 (and I'm a long time loya lowrance guy - never owned anything but) and just waiting for the spring fishing show
  21. With any snow cover I've never gotten anything on my Aquaview below 30 feet. I've tried on Joseph and off BBP on Simcoe in 80ft but nothing shows outside a very very small window. I can see the silt get stirred up when on the bottom but even with the IR light there's no real visisble radius. Best is perchin on Simcoe 15-25ft. It's more of a distraction and I don't take it out any more unless I need to humor my son. Sitting here collecting dust!
  22. I still use my Lowarnce X55. It's probably over 10 years old and works fine for me. I have used the flashers but I don't know if it's just me but I like the fact that the LCR screens roll and you can look down to see what you might have just missed. With a flasher you have to be watching it 100% of the time or you might miss fish going through. I can't tell you how many time I've been retying, eating or something to come back to the finder and see I just missed a fish coming in on the bottom. Changes your jigging/presentation if you know ones down there but just out of range. Usually those fish do bite too! I'm also looking for a second unit this year for my son to have and you should check out some of the used units that are on ebay. You've gotta know makes and models so keep it to 320V pixels and 12-1500 wats so it works well in deeper water. I've seen a few gently used with all wires and transducer for way under a $100. Colour will eat up batteries faster so be prepared with and extra set when you go out. Eagle 320 is a great starter unit as it has a bit wider screen. Good multi season finder too!

    Chumming

posted this last year at the beginning of the season and it worked again last year quite well for me. Several whitefish I took last year had my chum in their stomachs when cleaned. Take some uncooked spaghetti and break up to 1/2 - 1 inch lengths. cook and drain. Salt the cooked past well and then place 1 day portion (1-2 cups) in a heavy freezer bag. Add in several drops of food colouring. My fav is the bright yellow and greens. Mix in with the pasta and freeze. Take out the night before and place in a pot of water to unthaw. I had 1 laker from up north that had some in it too. Must have grabbed it on the drop.
  24. For the rest of you those are 2 lb crappie. Beside Goran they only look like 8"ers Good going - let me know if your heading out in January for any more ice, maybe we can meet up somewhere
