  1. Sort of like Terry said: In open water, you can cover much more water casting/trolling, hard to do that in the winter, besides fish are a bit more lethargic.
  2. Okay, pay attention, we're talking ice fishing, not the general rules of fishing in open waters where 2 rods are allowed, such as parts of the Great Lakes. Last CO I spoke with, on the ice, 2 rods, no ice, such as sitting in a boat during the generally accepted ice fishing season, 1 rod.
  3. 19a. No person shall drive an off-road vehicle or ride on an off-road vehicle or on a conveyance towed by an off-road vehicle unless he or she is wearing a helmet that complies with the regulations, securely fastened under his or her chin with a chin strap. R.S.O. 1990, c. O.4, s. 19 (1).
  4. Did you see any of the flood reports this week? That should give it away.
  5. Who cares who's out first, as long as the last one out closes the door behind himself and locks the door. I'm sure with the money any of those crows makes, none of them really give a rats donkey.
  6. Wait until next sunday, let you know, we're going this coming weekend if the, hopefully there weather co-ops and makes a bit more ice.
  7. Hoping for his safety, big thumbs up.
  8. Probably one of the worst moments of life, loosing a parent. For me it's when they play that tune by Mike & The Mechanics-In the Living Years, something I can't handle. Hookset, without a doubt, your story is worth the reading.
  9. Ya, used to buy them at Pennys in Thornbury, haven't seen them for sale for a couple years now, and, when it comes to spoons I either use the Silver Fox or Fishwitch.
  10. Okay, this story is getting plastered everywhere, getting tired of it.
  11. You sure the fuse the the plug on the GPS was okay, or maybe the power receptacle on the ATV is toast. Mine works with or without batteries in the GPS when I use external power.
  12. Putting part of the blame on shiftwork I can understand, but, did this thing come in a package? Were there any instructions on what NOT to do and what is supposed to be done? RT*I. Then there won't be a ball of smoke and the "oh sonofabirchtree".
  13. I don't think the warm temps will kill the ice too much, the suns still low on the horizon at this time of year, it doesn't sugar the ice as bad. What may be worse if the snow days afterwards add up too much weight on the ice and make slush again.
  14. Going to add the obvious one, not challenging your electrical smarts, but, have you put the voltmeter to the plug to see if you are getting a constant 12V? Sometimes the plug can get a "shakey" contact and we think it's the on/off button.
  15. My descriptive version: They are nothing more than a faster version of a regular fishfinder, with the "screen" wrapped up in a circle, 0' at the top and deeper increments as you go around the circle, til you're back at the top, then you go to the next deeper scale. I honestly think they are overpriced. I purchased the Aqua Vu version for half the amount, it's format is in the regular rectangular display, multiple depth and variable zoom settings. There is no perceptable "lag" time between you twitching the bait and what shows on the screen.
  16. A mighty Amen to all the above posts.
  17. No, that would just give those "prone to accidents" more fuel to push their luck.
  18. Vex or Marcum, hokum pokum, ya still don't know what's down there, could be a couple of crayfish doing a Mikael Jackson moonwalk. At least with a camera you know what you're getting. If you do want to try a flasher, Nature vision also has them at about 1/2 the price of the other two.
  19. I just wonder what possesses people to do that. Will we ever see a season where people will wait long enough and not cause grief to their families. Why?
  20. For those that don't know about NSAISs, you might want to check into them first, they can cause more grief than relief. I was on them, sciatic nerve problem, then I got ulcers, couldn't eat, just marvellous. Pill prescribers have to be watched. It's not a cure, they just mask the problem. http://ca.wrs.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geumxJ33tHL...hart_nsaids.asp
  21. I bought one last year, still under the Aqua Vu VPG name, wasn't quite sure at first, but after 4 outings now, it works to my satisfaction. Very easy to set up, tear open the velcro cover, pull out the transducer, place in the hole, turn on and pick your range and dial in the sensitivity and zoom. Very clear display with backlight. When jiggling the minnow/jig, you see the change "right now" no lag compared to the older LCD's. You can watch the fish come to look at your bait, just like a Vex or Marcum or X67. The only difference, it's in the regular LCD format of top to bottom rather than in a circle, which I personally don't like. And, lastly, the price was right, paid $199 at Tromblys last winter.
  22. Nice catch, East side of Simcoe?, Cooks Bay or way up around the corner, no specifics needed, thanks.
  23. Ya, looks like Joey and gang was just a tad south of me too, going to have to bring out the FRS/GMRS radios.
  24. I do think there is a bit of difference between basic and high end units, one of them being quality. My old Lowrance X-40, about 20 years old now is still ticking, meanwhile I've seen the Humminbuzzard recycle pile getting bigger.
