  1. Many years ago we would be in the river or near it at PAB and see something just barely sticking out of the water, when we got closer it looked like a telephone pole just barely floating with the thicker end down. Saw them a few times over the years and glad we never hit one! It seems to be there used to be one on the left side of the river past the narrows that was stuck? Maybe something from past logging?
  2. I wasn't opposed to using live bait, especially in my younger years, caught them on minnows and perch up there. LOL, come up to take a look?
  3. We were at PAB one year like 50 years ago and my brother and dad had been fishing in a different boat and he showed me a golden shiner he had caught around the hole in the wall? It was about 10 inches long, never saw another one there, even in the bait stores. There are bowfin here, but I have never seen or caught one here, the ones we got at PAB seemed to average around 5-6 pounds, one of my buddies got one in Brignall's that had to be pushing 20 pounds. He had caught a 31 in walleye like the day before and we thought he had a real monster hooked, LOL, it was a monster ! White bass used to be easy to catch in Lake Erie here, any lights by the water at night with small lures.
  4. Nice link Jon, all the golden shiners I have seen look like the fish on the right.
  5. Congrats sir, you should be good at it.
  6. LOL, I was fishing at a pond near me one day and a guy stopped me to show me all the rainbow trout he had caught, I just didn't know if I could keep from laughing if I had told him they were sunfish. Got back to the dock one evening with my buddy and some other guys staying there stopped us to show off the big bass they had caught ... er it was a bowfin. LOL, can we eat it? oh sure!
  7. https://nas.er.usgs.gov/queries/factsheet.aspx?SpeciesID=648 That also is a possibility, and it seems they are already here. They mention Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence in this article.
  8. After looking at some golden shiner pictures on line I am seeing some that have reddish fins, a spawning color? It's a big one if it is?
  9. I would probably show that picture to a C/O and get their take on it, if the gobies and zebra mussels can hitch a ride here on a boat there is probably no reason a roach couldn't?
  10. https://www.fws.gov/injuriouswildlife/pdf_files/Rutilus_rutilus_WEB_9-18-2012.pdf None have been documented, but it could be another invasive species?
  11. Years ago I caught one that was pushing 12 inches long in a farm pond near me, but I have never seen one with red fins. That looks more like this? https://www.google.com/search?q=roach+fish&client=firefox-b-1&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjcxua5u-PaAhUlwFkKHeG7ADoQiR4I1AE&biw=1152&bih=704
  12. http://www.marineengine.com/boat-forum/showthread.php?421609-2006-Mercury-50hp-2-stroke-compression You should be good, besides low numbers you don't want to see much of a difference between them.
  13. My first time launching at the main ramp in Lorain Ohio was with my brother, we pulled in and there was a couple of cops standing around, so I asked my brother if something was happening. No, just the normal weekend crowd, they are there to keep stuff from happening, usually it didn't take long for a fight to breakout. They put that ramp in a good location, just a short walk to the cell block!
  14. http://fox8.com/2018/04/28/coast-guard-searching-for-man-who-fell-off-boat-in-sandusky-bay/ Be careful out there!
  15. I don't know how much they have changed over the years but one of my long time fishing partners had 4-5 of them and liked them, never saw him have any problems with them.
  16. I think I saw that thing in Star Wars lV!
  17. When my dad went to Lady Evelyn lake decades ago he had about an 8-10 pound pike jump into the net as my uncle was netting a walleye he caught, then he put it on a stringer and it bent the clasp and got away! I saw a 19 - 20 inch largemouth that a guy in the camp we stayed at in Pointe Au Baril had caught, from the gill plates back it was torn up, a muskie had grabbed it and let go when he got it to the boat. It used to be legal to use perch for bait in some areas up north, my friend and I had a couple out under bobbers, no bites, let's move! he starts reeling in he perch comes to the surface, and a 40+ inch pike takes a swipe at it, we wasted some more time at that spot. LOL it also used to be legal for us to catch our own bait, we would fish for minnows. One time while doing so my buddy says, Paul look at this, he has a huge smallie on that grabbed his minnow and was swimming towards the boat with it, a size 16 hook isn't meant for big fish! LOL, troll in the prop wash? I put reflective tape on the prop of a stern mount electric motor I used to use up north. Trolling along a weed edge using it and bump! What? nothing here to hit, too deep, and there is a stunned looking ski that passed two lures to hit the prop!
  18. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Shimano_Sahara_FI_Spinning_Reels/descpage-SH.html http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Shimano_NASCI_Spinning_Reel/descpage-NASC.html Even the info on tackle warehouse indicates one is for freshwater one is for saltwater? Better seals? more money!
  19. Cool, the one on the right looks like a hybrid? I got chased by a goose one night years ago at a pond I was fishing at, got too close to the nest in the dark. One definitely looked like a Canada goose, the other looked more like a domestic goose. i get them trying to nest in my yard sometimes in the spring too Lew, it's cool to watch them.
  20. If you know someone that has a baitcasting reel see if you can get them to let you use it and give you some instructions before you make the purchase.
  21. Hang him, dude should have got a blow up doll to take his frustrations out on!
  22. Wow, condolences to our friends and neighbors up north!
  23. Our weather here seems like it is running at least a couple of weeks behind normal, and the 15 day forecast doesn't show a big overall improvement. https://weather.com/weather/tenday/l/44253
  24. http://anglingauthority.com/why-replace-treble-hooks-with-siwash-hooks/ http://www.worldfishingnetwork.com/community/post/replacing-treble-hooks-with-single-hooks I can see where they would have a use, but not always?
