  1. Sharper, we have some private hatcheries here, they raise fish for stocking private ponds. They usually have a sale in the spring or in the fall at the farm co-op, if you have a farm co-op in your area they might know. At least one here advertises in our rural electric power magazine also. I think the ones here truck the fish in to the store for the sale in trucks like the bait suppliers use. Usually just a one day sale, and ordering in advance guarantees you get what you want. The ad was in our local newspaper. Lots of farm ponds here.
  2. A lot of fun when you get them that size! Nice fish!
  3. The picture that Zib posted is probably the most common way, a tube and a tube jig insert, just slide it in and where the hook eye makes a bump you just poke it thru to tie your line. It works fine for areas that aren`t real weedy. Another method of rigging is to texas rig them, use a 3/0 to 5/0 wide gap hook, choice of weights. A standard slip sinker (worm weight) and I usually peg them with a toothpick or rubber sinker stop. The also make weights that go inside the tube and are threaded on the hook as it is inserted. You can also fish them on a Carolina rig or rigged texas style with out a weight for surface action. The was a good picture of rigging them tex-posed posted by one of the Harrison`s, don`t know how to find it though. Tex-posed is a texas rig with the hook point slightly buried to prevent fouling by weeds, or wood. Tubes are sort of small, if your missing hits it is probably panfish. gobies, hitting it. They make the jig inserts with a variety of hooks, some have a longer shank that others which is good for longer tubes, different hook eye angles. http://queticofishing.com/tubejigrigging.htm http://www.mizmo.com/texasriggingforbass.html
  4. Weird? 15 people have bid on the sun? I am selling the moon! oops sorry joey, you got first crack at that. Have to go with uranus.
  5. LOL tillers are for geezers, I use a Captain.
  6. In case you ever wondered about the cost of fish. Largemouth bass- 3 inch fish 1.75 each 6 inch fish 3.50 each 10-12 inch fish 10.00 each Hybrid Bluegill- 3-5 inch fish 1.25 each Adult Bluegill- 4-6 inch fish 1.50 each Channel catfish- 4 inch fish 1.20 each 8 inch fish 1.50 each Fathead minnows- 2 inch 8.50/lb Hybrid white amur (grass carp) 11.00 each Goldfish 6-8 inch 4.00 each It cost some cash to stock a pond, a reason why some land owners don`t want people fishing their ponds. Numbers I have seen are a healthy pond will support 90 bass per surface acre, initial stocking done with a mix of sizes.
  7. Early thanksgiving eh? So cold turkeys hibernate up there so you got to get them early? 80`s here till like Tuesday.
  8. http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/snapshots/fish/longnosegar.html My wife and I have caught Gar in the Georgian Bay, I got one around 46 inches she got one around 41. Just the size difference makes me think the one you got may have been a Long-Nosed also? The size difference leads me to believe the Spotted Gar is a much smaller fish? They do look similar. http://myfwc.com/Fishing/Fishes/gar.html http://www.enature.com/fieldguides/detail.asp?recnum=FI0017
  9. My condolences to you and the family also, terrible news.
  10. LOL Maureen, sounds like a good plan. Good Morning!
  11. Pretty harsh treatment of people, never a good thing, if one was to drown do you whine you didn`t know he couldn`t swim? It could be you in jail. The best bet is to make sure the authorities are aware of the situation and apply pressure to make sure the laws are enforced. Picket the office of the people responsible for enforcement, take pictures of the violators and their vehicles, hmmm, can`t read English but have a drivers license? More people? a shortage of jobs?= cheap labor. Our country also ignores the immigration problem.
  12. I wouldn`t spend the money for a 10hp difference, unless I was able to find a 60hp real cheap. Another thing to consider, a motor over the MFG`s recommendations might void the hull warranty? It is hard to catch fish at 29mph, nice to get to the spots quicker though.
  13. Nice fish Ron!
  14. LOL ya`ll? Look at the map, your north of me not south, still have a good one, eh?
  15. Sorry PikeHunter, I know the feeling.
  16. Another cheap way to slow the drift down is to use old style window weights, they are about 18 to 24 inches long, made of cast iron with holes on at least one end. 3 to 5 pounds or so. A rope thru the eye and let it drag behind the boat, they are about 2 inches in diameter, smooth and will slide over the bottom in a lot of places.
  17. LOL a house of Lords? How can politicians electing other politicians be a good idea? Politicians appointed by other politicians? the buddy system? I have no idea how your system works, ours is messed up enough for a simple man. You don`t have to count with an electoral college.
  18. LOL walleye are over rated! Nice pike! Something looks familier about that place.
  19. Bass is beautiful! Nice fesh Brian! Dang you sound Canadian in the video.
  20. LOL, how did you make 10,000 casts that quick? wait 2 fish 20,000? Nice job Lew!
  21. LOL Rick! Elections November of next year and the commercials have already started.
  22. Rapala makes some good lures, that said I don`t use them often. Tubes, plastic worms, jig and pig, buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, small crankbaits. I use rapalas as a surface twitch bait and have trolled them at times, cast a small shad rap but not much else.
  23. Still trying to get a top score on Desktop TD, give me another 20 years or so.
  24. Saw that on the news here yesterday, scarey.
  25. See you guys got a loonie on your dollar, us one in control of the country. and a replacement may be worse? LOL What do you do when all the choices may be wrong?
