  1. Nice fish! Congrats!
  2. Wow Gerritt, all my years of going up to Canada I never had a problem. That sounds terrible!
  3. This time of year it`s a bait fish bite, they will still hit other types of lures but bait fish are what they are seeing now. Lures that imitate them are a good choice. The depths they are holding in can vary, but probably won`t be far from food. Bugs are gone frogs and crawfish in hiding they can get locked in on bait fish. They slow down a little but can still make a rush to get food, get it close to them. White grubs on a jighead, white tubes, crankbaits, spoons, blade lures can still get fish this time of year.
  4. Thanks Sam! I think Glen needed some cool clean air! Now if he can catch a pickeral!
  5. My condolences also, alway sad to see young men and women die.
  6. I haven`t looked at reels much in a while, just the info I got from the web was the new Curados have Aluminum gears? It might be an issue down the road, the old one had brass gears. Ya Lew, like you a little older than some here, the early products from Japan had some issues. Almost everyone I fished with used Shimanos later on, the green curados when they became available, great reels. Still only as good as the guy using it, one of the younger guys I fished with was the fishing manager of a Gander Mountain here. He bought all the old ones when the new ones came out.
  7. I learned back in the 50`s also, weren`t many spinning reels around, dad had langley baitcasters that was what we used. You didn`t see left hand retrieve baitcasters back then, at least I never did. My Uncle was in the navy around 1957, he got to take a cruise to France and brought home some Mitchell 300`s for my dad. That was my first shot at them, just seem more comfortable casting with the right hand and reeling with the left. My first left hand retrieve baitcaster was an Abu 5001c great reels but a slow retrieve, like 3.5 to 1, a lot of smallies were jumping out of the water before I could catch up to them. I ran into the Shimano`s in a little tackle store in Canton Ohio back in the later 70`s. I had never seen them before, was leary of a product from Japan, but seemed like a nice tight little reel and better fit and finish than most Japanese products of the era. I bought 2 251 magnums, still got them, a little beat up but still work well, much more comfortable to me than the bigger round reels of the time and cured me of being afraid to by Japanese reels. I like Abu reels, a tradition, but I have had more issues with some of their reels than I have had with the Shimanos. I used to be able to use either right or left fairly well, just losing the use of my left hand and arm now. It is nice to be able to use either, but it is a comfort thing, you reach for the one that feels right. Just tools to do a job, nice to understand how to use them and to be able to.
  8. Nice sized fish, just my experience with them they are sluggish in cold water, powerful still but not in a hurry. LOL I would rather eat ducks!
  9. Pictures! Reports! I need something to read.
  10. LOL Brian, I know you use the good stuff to make Molson and Labatt,( oil, water mix) can`t ask you to give up that!
  11. What's a Gretzky ?? dunno.gif Well said Lew! Most of us wouldn`t know that hockey thing was missing, and we have more than enough bimbos to spare. Next time send water or oil!
  12. Ya ice has a lot of uses, keeping the fish cold, keeping the beer cold, repeat, repeatedly!
  13. LOL Hookset, I didn`t think we found summer up there, you guys got a great country, June thru September. Heck Ohio Is tropical compared to there.
  14. A dusting on the ground here, windy, a russian cold front! I won`t blame Canada!
  15. Alabama Red Bellied? LOL Glen is famous!
  16. LOL, being from Mexico has it`s advantages? Work cheap? we won`t stop you!
  17. Dang things are pretty! LOL I liked fishing for them in October, no cooking in the boat, no bugs, getting a decent day on Lake Erie was a bit of a problem though.
  18. Gerritt, me and my wife used 6 to 8 inch chubs on the Georgian for pike and skis and got walleye, the fall feed is on, bigger may be better? Think I saw Lew with a couple of pictures of walleyes(er pickerals) that attacked some of his muskie baits. Never know, match the hatch?
  19. My dogs lick me, no rhyme or reason, they don`t jump up on me when I walk in the door like they do to my wife or anyone else that enters. Let me stop moving though and one or sometimes all of them gather around and taste me, constantly. LOL I thought it was the FF thing, taste like a pork chop. I got up this morning and my wife had left a page from her Boston Terrier calender at my place on the table. Under the picture a notation " Dog saliva contains certain enzymes that help to disinfect and heal wounds". http://www.gi.alaska.edu/ScienceForum/ASF12/1234.html LOL a couple dogtors running around the house and I had no clue!
  20. LOL the birds and chucky? we are all doomed!
  21. Nice rack! Any idea what that weighed in at?
  22. Don`t know what kind of a motor, but way too much for them. Should be under a buck a piece.
  23. 17 to 20 pound test Stren has worked well for me on my reels. Braid is thinner, you would want a much heavier pound test probably. 65# power pro has the diameter of 16 pound mono. I put it on a couple of Abu C-4s it casts well, but I haven`t really used it enough to form a good opinion.
  24. Kevin, I have a 1986 35 merc, there is a slight delay from starting to water coming out the pee hole on mine but not a lot. I have never timed it. I always start mine in a plastic drum when I am not in the water.
  25. Maureen, depending on how good your seal is around the trailer lights cold water can get in there and hit the hot bulbs and actually cause them to crack. LOL short trailers actually pivot faster than longer ones. 30+ years of driving truck, give me a short trailer and I look like a rookie sometimes. Just an adjustment from what your used to. Hauling a trailer just takes some practice, I am sure you will get used to it.
