Different setups between a spinning and casting reel, revolving spool on a casting reel, fixed on a spinning the bail assembly moves to wind line, gear ratio deal is the same though, just a different method. Sahara is a decent reel, 2500 a popular size for all around fishing, 6.2 to 1 higher up as retrieve ratios go, faster retrieve, 1 turn of the handle should equal 6.2 turns of the bail assembly.

LOL, nice stove! After pictures look like a nice job on the upgrade! The 9.9 looks like a toy next to the big motor. -
More great pictures, looks like a great summer. Jugs in the water, rocks or mooring point for the plane?

Great pictures Wayne! Nice job with the rock wall. The wabbit? Looks like the ones around here, but domestic and wild rabbits may cross breed? -

Phil I am having problems with a telemarketer for a charity, when I typed their number 1-866-357-6119 into google that was one of the things at the top. First time I had seen it, LOL some quick thinking or good planning. -

A lot of mine are older because I prefer twisted eyelets, there are lot of good ones out there though if you prefer to tie direct. White, Chartruse, Chartruse and blue.

The cable is usually covered in a protective sheath to a point near the rear end, possibly spraying penetrating oil where the cable goes from the cab into the sheath and from the rear end side will allow it to work lose?

Great report, nice smallie, good to see Curtis still fishes!

Keep an opened mind on technique, locate fish. To give an example, a good year here last fall and early winter, my buddy was still bass fishing in early January. A little ice around the edges of the lakes thin stuff that broke on contact with the boat. He won a pickup bass tournament casting a blade bait and letting it flutter down thru pockets of whatever weeds were left. I have caught largemouth in 20 feet of water in September on the Georgian Bay, no good reason for them to be that deep, food? Water wasn`t that cold and I was fishing for smallies, just hard to predict what plan is a good one, the fish will let you know. Seeing baitfish in the area you are fishing is a good sign, fall feeding season, match the hatch.

Bigcreek I wondered when you mentioned the Vermillion river. Used to get steelhead there myself bass fishing around the river mouth. Good walleye action there offshore in the fall also.

Bigcreek, are you in Ohio?

Grog if you google earth it you can get an idea of the water and passages, I have the basic so not much definition. The channel between Paynes and Brignall`s is the only way in to a pretty big area. any migration or movement of fish from the main bay has to occur thru there, and in the scope of the area it is narrrow 100-200 yards wide? A deep channel with feeding areas on both sides. My buddy got a 31 inch walleye there, I got a 28 the same trip, sort of never expected walleye there, not a place for them in the summer. LOL I got mine on a spinnerbait slow rolled off a point(8-10 feet of water), his came on a big minnow on the bottom(17-20feet of water). My wife and I did well with walleye back in the river with minnows under a slip float in the summer, the fish averaged between 3 and 6 pounds, never got a small walleye there, numbers may not be as good as some places we never caught more than about 8 a day. Ken-Lea was a good camp for the guys at the time and mom and my aunt`s didn`t mind it. LOL cheap, rustic, some cabins had to use a central bathroom and shower, to close to the water for in cabin facilities. Rock Pines was better for a family, also pricey. Dad stayed at Pleasant Cove and Leisure Bay also and liked them also. Boat traffic increased over 25 years, not just numbers but size of boats also, this time of year it shouldn`t be a problem. Bugs weren`t a problem this time of year. I would go back there if I was able to.

You can drop shot them too, hooked thru the nose, a twitch bait.

Grog can`t help you with a place to get a map, the bait store may have them, Paynes Marina, or Kennedy`s general store may also have them though. They should be available, I got one here, a popular cruising destination. Lots of rocks but the channels were pretty obvious and white jugs in the water meant rocks, some aren`t marked though. This was my favorite time of year to go there, if you go into the Shawanaga river past the narrows it opens up into a lake size bay, we caught walleye in the bay near shore past Moose Bay, left side going in. 6-10 feet of water troll a worm harness, erie dearie, small crankbait even a 7 inch Rapala floater in silver and black or Perch. Smallies and Pike back in there too, an occasional hookup with a ski. We also went from Ken-Lea down to the Winoa channel to go to the river, there is another channel closer, the Christopher? It had a lot of rocks towards the river side and was shallow so we avoided it most of the time. Got some largemouth at times in the channel though, weeds on both sides, it can be real hit or miss. The channel from Paynes down to Brignall`s banks was a good spot, weeds near shore, some deeper ones, a couple small coves that had decent pike early and late in the day. Also some walleye and bass there this time of year and an ocassional hookup with a ski. The first decent size bay on the left going into the winoa channel before the island, Mystery bay? bass and pike, shallow weeds, deep weeds. Back towards Sturgeon Bay PP lots of weed beds small islands, lots of bass, never got a big pike back there though, occasional hookup with a ski. Lots of islands, lots of weedbeds, lots of points, a good mix of shallow and deeper water. Been a long time since I was there but around 25 years straight, lots of water to fish. Last time I was at Ken-Lea was like the early 80`s? it was getting run down and had an ownership change sometime after my last stay, can`t really tell you what it is like now. A good area to fish though. In Shawanaga bay the area around Bella Vista, Turning Island were good places to try for walleye, a big weedbed on the outside of the old ymca camp at the mouth of the river had some pike and smallies. Just a matter of covering some water and seeing where you can locate some fish, lots of areas there will hold them.

Never fished the lake you mentioned, and don`t usually fish for perch or walleye anymore. I did fish for them on Lake Erie and other places(Ontario) years ago. On Lake Erie we almost never carried live bait for walleyes, small crankbaits like the storm wiggle wart or hot n tot were the way to go, trolled, they worked and there was no need for live bait. I have caught walleye (er, pickeral) on a lot of different lures, some just aren`t the best thing to use at the time, or under certain conditions. Live bait works, it is a pain to get sometimes, a bait store that has what you want or catching them yourself. Dad and my uncle had some success with a plastic worm on a worm harness, never tried it myself, but I have caught walleye on plastic worms. If your comfortable and confident in what you are using? Usually keeping fish doesn`t enter the picture for me, if your looking for a fish fry go with the proven methods. Up north I like a 6 to 8 inch minnow, just because I would rather hook a big pike or ski.

I never grabbed a beaver that looked like that!

Never caught or fished for Salmon, a little early for steelhead here, next month, cooler temps and rain will help. LOL I haven`t seen any other species of trout here, but the Steelhead don`t really seem to have a preference in baits, anything that resembles a baitfish, white tubes, white jig and grubs, small crankbaits, small spoons like cleos. Most of mine have come from breakwalls and rip-rap at river mouths, if the baitfish are stacked up there even better. The ones I have cleaned where full of small fish, emerald shiners, perch, shad, didn`t seem to make much difference to them. Some days it was hard to get a hit, they were rolling in the schools of Emerald Shiners along the breakwalls, so food was easy to get for them. Other days you couldn`t keep away from them to get to the smallies. Cooler water holds oxygen better and trout are pretty oxygen sensitive, if the water is to warm maybe they won`t chase a lure?

The population of Canada and California are about the same, cheaper prices here, more buying power. Don`t know about costs to get stuff back across the border. Just from the prices I have seen people post for items they bought up there they are cheaper here.

LOL, just wait, they are going to put GW`s picture on our money, then everyone will want it?

Glad to hear the back is better, take it easy for a while.

LOL, slam the fishermen and boaters? What about the shipping companies that brought in things like gobies and zebra mussels? Shouldn`t they be required to pay the costs of clearing our waters of them? Yes it is important to stop or prevent the spread of invasive species, but business gets a pass at taxpayer expense? Just my opinion that a little more care in what is allowed to enter our countries in the first place would be cheaper than trying to clean up the mess afterwards. Take a look at the damage caused by the emerald ash borer, lose a species of tree to cheap imports? and who gets stuck with the bill? Do you take firewood to your cabin or campsite? Is it safe? Is it your fault? No easy answer, but money talks and we pay.
