  1. Back in the day carp and sheephead were removed from our hooks using a fish billy, a good whack and they don`t come back! I have gotten mellower though haven`t done that for a long time. My PB sheephead, near 20 pounds, LOL no pictures plezze! went into a dumpster! That is why Lake Erie smallies grow big!
  2. John, one of the reports we got was from a former friend of my dads. He claimed to have hooked one like 4 feet long trolling a worm harness on the bottom for walleye and got it near the boat before it broke off. Don`t know for sure how reliable his info was though, we broke ties with him after him and his buddy got caught trying to bring home 27 northern pike. Just guessing honesty wasn`t a strong point. There is a picture in the Cleveland papers every few year of one that was caught and released in Lake Erie here. Just guessing water quality is still better there so they are probably around. Drift a piece of cut shad, big chub on a slip bobber near the bottom? Shawanaga might be a place to try, maybe the winoa? Some good catfish there.
  3. John I agree with you, a struggling fishery (sturgeon) should be protected. Two laying on the deck doesn`t seem like a good way to go about it. Suppose every one kept two because it was legal? My dad used to tell me stories about him walking the shoreline of Lake Erie as a kid and dead Sturgeon laying on the shore, people threw them up there because they were ugly. Started fishing Pointe Au Baril in 1964, Dad in 1961, there were reports of people catching them there back then, although we never saw one.
  4. LOL your sick! One of my uncles took his wife with him on a trip up north, she got sick, he took her to the hospital, they admitted her, he went back and fished until the vacation was over. Then picked her up and went home. Now he is dead! But from natural causes.
  5. Welcome Douger, never fished for them on the Georgian, going on the premise Steelhead are Steelhead like the bass are bass. On Lake Erie a lot of pier and breakwall fishing for them in the fall of the year. While we fished from a boat, and for smallies we hooked a lot of them. White tubes to imitate baitfish, small chrome crankbaits, a white jig and grub, and if the smallies weren`t on we sometimes fished for them on purpose to waste time. A little cleo or other small spoon, a blade bait like a silver buddy or sonar. Most of the time we were within easy casting distance from shore and casting to shore, bait fish such as Emerald shiners schooling around the breakwalls, piers, is a plus, match the hatch. Softer action rod might help also, most of ours were fast action and a lot of lost fish.
  6. As Ben Franklin said: In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom, in water there is bacteria. In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated that if we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year we would have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E. coli) - bacteria found in feces. In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop. However, we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine & beer (or tequila, rum, whiskey or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purification process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting. Remember: Water = Poop, Wine = Health. Therefore, it's better to drink wine and talk stupid, than to drink water and be full of ****.
  7. " No you can not target out of season fish period. Unless your fishing Lake Erie during the closed Smallmouth bass season in the State of Ohio which makes no sense to me " Well said Phil! If you truly care about the sport and maintaining a first class fishery why would you want too? One of my major complaints about the pro bass tour, they seem to think fishing for bedding bass is a good plan. Nice to see big fish at a weigh in, but at the cost of those fish with a failed spawn?
  8. I kept like a 20 inch L/M once and put it in my parents fish pond. Didn`t give it much thought at the time and should have known better. Pond was only like 4 feet deep, dang thing died over the winter. Still in good shape though so I got a mount of it. Might have been the last bass I kept. Just seemed like a waste. Just to me better a live release, I have put some in friends ponds that could handle them.
  9. LOL but what about this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_imAA0rkxT0
  10. Good Morning! Hope everyone has a great day! Me too, tax time!
  11. Same here Wayne, I hope all goes well.
  12. Oil went over 100 a barrel for the first time. I don`t know how much damage was done to the refinery, but a shortage of refining capacity also. Oil is not much use to the consumers until it is refined to gasoline, diesel fuel, heating oil.
  13. I have seen the wheelchair one before, disturbing, especially in my new found situation. I walk like a drunk, a police stop where I have to get out of the car is going to draw some looks from a cop. I can imagine the first thought is going to be I got me a drunk! To me the situation appeared to be common place there? No one seemed surprised by the deputy`s actions? No rush to help? Just me, but the taxpayers will be providing that guy with a green cushion? Cash!
  14. If I had to walk around in a bumble bee outfit and drive a kidde car I might be a little bent too! Better threads and a decent ride might warrant a little more respect? Seriously? Had some brushes with the law as a kid-young adult, it is yes officer, not dude, a little respect in a situation can save you from getting your butt kicked. Had a cousin sucker punch a cop, then wonder why he met Mr. Billy-club. Dude was afraid to tell his dad about his new lumps, dad would have gave him more. Stupid can be fatal. Some parents don`t care, kids roam the streets and as long as they stay out of their hair it`s ok. When there is a problem? My baby wouldn`t do that! Police brutality! Cops cut me some slack a few times, enough for me to get my head on straight, and ya dad would have kicked my butt. Tough job, I would never want it. Especially with those wheels and that uniform!
  15. Not a Muskoka chair, must be a Bama bench seat.
  16. As long as I remember the prices in Ontario seemed high, even with the exchange rate. Other than transportation costs and import fees whatever they amounted to over the years I could never understand the reason. I can only recall buying a couple of fishing lures up there, Heddon Strawberry Vamps, wood ones, because we didn`t see them here and they caught some fish, but like the 1960`s? Bought some line up there too, emergency. Even cabin rental prices seemed to go up quickly, demand? an increasing population, an increasing cost for water front property? LOL back in the 60`s a cabin rental was like 60 to 90 dollars a week, like a third to half an average Americans weekly pay, so it didn`t hurt as much.
  17. Too much tackle? Ya same here, had some obscure baits save the day at times though. I do like to be able to fish from top to bottom and with a variety of different looks. Favorite bait? the one that is catching the fish! Mostly a bass fisherman so some kind of jig setup was thrown the most. Jig and worm, jig and pig, tube.
  18. They show a program on the History channel about logging, pretty incredible what some of those machines can do to a forest and even though we need wood probably not a good thing.
  19. Great pictures and report Glen! Nice to see open water! Bass ID info http://myfwc.com/Fishing/Fishes/bass.html
  20. That would be all the hint I needed to leave the area!
  21. I was ready for April right after October, willing to trade Nov., Dec.,Jan., Feb., Mar., for an extra May, June, and September.
  22. I believe it, when we were having electric supply installed for or above ground pool the first shot didn`t pass an inspection, accessory plug had to be like 10 feet from the pool. I asked the inspector why? because people plug in radios and such and put the on the pool edge, duh! bad plan! Back during the first fuel crisis here in the 70`s there was a story on the news about 2 guys getting seriously burnt trying to use a shop vac to suck gas out of their big boat at a marina for their cars.
  23. LOL if I`m in the boat? Ugly has the edge!
  24. Great news Jack! Don`t worry about the boobs, seems to me someone attends that has manziers?
  25. No possible reason why I would want to!
