Sit inside, start it up to keep warm and break out the Vodka! Probably in a hurry cause they left it in the car? ccmt, where the heck are those pictures at? Got to tear those pages out of the atlas.

Saw that on the news yesterday CH, humans are just chum. Pretty crazy, never got the swimming in the ocean thing, fresh water or a pool. I did walk in the Atlantic, ankle deep at Virginia Beach, little fish swimming around and the only time I didn`t want to meet their daddy. No clue what they were.

Braided Line and Fluorocarbon Leaders
OhioFisherman replied to Fishnwire's topic in General Discussion
A buddy and me were trolling on the Georgian bay years ago, he was using an over sized spinning reel spooled with 40 pound mono on what looked like a ocean boat rod, like 6 foot long and the action of a broom handle. Dang thing had to weigh a ton! He hooked what had to be a Muskie that busted him off, drag a bit too tight. Dude was 6' 5" 270 and could bench 535, outfit might have been ok for him, but not most humans. 40 pound mono looks like rope, kind of handles the same on a reel, 65 pound Power Pro is the same diameter as 16 pound mono, just easier to deal with, and a heavy fluorocarbon leader takes the place of a steel one, less visible. Not much experience with braids myself, I tried the original Spider Wire and didn`t like it. Bought some Power Pro, 65#, easier to deal with, but not much actual fishing time with it. Few casts around the yard a few at a lake. I use 10 to 20 pound test mono most of the time, no trouble feeling a tiny nick, and I am not shy about retying or re spooling. Sucks to lose a fish cause you got lazy or in a hurry. The plan was to re-try muskie fishing with a little more focus on actually landing them, power pro seemed like a better plan than those in the past. -
LOL Mike, no thanks needed, a lot of info out there, just something we have done here for a long time. Used to do a lot of pond fishing, and for some quite a walk, just easier to limit the amount of tackle being carried and rigging in the dark is made simpler. Jig head vs. worm weight, hooks, pegs ect. Not the best plan in heavy weeds, although ripping it off the weeds can trigger strikes. If there is a clear level above the weeds I also swim them just above. Let it settle into any gaps. Bare hook on the jig means a better hooking percentage. Lost enough fish to make sure I use a good hook though, especially around cover.

Pete looks younger than me, maybe the hat? LOL I saw The Nuge back when he played with the Amboy Dukes at a local concert here in Ohio. Woke up on a different planet someplace in Indiana to Journey to the Center of your mind, concert billed as the second woodstock back in the very early 70`s. Nuge has got to be older than me. Pete just looks like he is having fun! It`s nice to be tall!

Never used a Jack`s Worm myself, I like these http://www.productolure.com/springworm.php Jig heads for me aren`t a problem, I make some of my own and buy the rest. I used them down to 3/32 of an ounce. Not to hard to modify a mold to accept larger hooks, I use a drill press and a dremel bit to open them up a bit. Newer molds are available that accept bass size hooks. Pretty common for me to have a jig and worm rigged up to throw with a finesse bait and another with a jig and lizard for a slower or different look if a fishing partner gets a blowup on a surface lure but not a take. Caught just about everything on them, not just a bass lure. Walleye eat lizards too.

http://www.classicbass.com/edzoneWE4.htm Read the article, nothing new though a technique I have used for 35 years or so. Why? It works, shakey head jigs may be considered a spin off on it. Use a quality jig, you want a strong hook. Not just a finesse tactic like mentioned in the article, flipping, pitching docks with a jig head and a 6-8 inch lizard also gets action. All Terrain, Gopher Tackle, Stamina Bullet Nose, lot of good jigs with good hooks out there compared to the old days. Shallow or deep a lure worth a try.

Neighbour had a chimney fire this morning
OhioFisherman replied to Kerry's topic in General Discussion
Glad to hear no serious problems! I have been burning wood every year since 1990 in my wood burner, only problem I had was when I tried to go two years without cleaning, yellow jackets had built a nest in the chimney. With that and the creosote build up it blocked it and smoke started coming into the house. Care is needed, my neighbors had a chimney fire and it ruined the tile chimney liner, they had to get a stainless liner. I like to get at least two years wood at a time, plenty of room to store it though for me. Well seasoned burns cleaner. -

Just me but I would look around, maybe e-bay and find a lower unit cheaper? Nothing worse than a broken Johnson! -
LOL Pete, ya your right. I usually wear a paper bag, don`t want to scare the fish!. I didn`t see your name on the schedule for the Cleveland show. Have fun Pete!
-
LOL TJ, leading him your hats? A hat like that and you better be able to catch fish, to stop the laughter!

LOL, the value of the dollar is what they say it is, not unreasonable to expect that under those circumstances that your tax bill is what they say it is. Taxes and death the only sure things, er, don`t die without paying! You can die much easier than you can get out of paying taxes!

LOL Glen, can`t expect plumbers to catch wallice, too busy checking their plumbing?

If buying a boat from the USA dont try this .......
OhioFisherman replied to BENNY's topic in General Discussion
Don`t know how it works up there, years ago a friend bought a project car to make a street racer out of. Might have been partially stripped? The state here gave him a call, questioned the purchase price and taxes paid, sent an inspector to his house to make sure everything was kosher. Ohio will check if things don`t seem right, cha ching! -
LOL shark on the end of my line warrants me cutting the line, muskies do it for me, a pleasant fish. Ya I remeber the thread from a year or two ago, some problem with the lady that caught it? No fishing license or something?

I have had good luck with golden shiners, chubs, and even suckers for pickeral AKA walleye. I haven`t used small minnows in years, emerald shiner are great bait but way too small, even the bigger ones. Any where from 4 to 8 inch is a good size for walleye, tip a jig like a fuzzy grub with them, a swimming jig with a stinger hook, make your own the tiny ones most places sell seem worthless. Also used a slip bobber with a big bait for them. Suckers work great on Erie, haven`t had much success with them any where else for anything.
