Had a lot of 20 inch smallies on a scale at weigh in on this side of Erie, they are usually pushing 5, LOL fat southern gentlemen? Lots of food for them here, shiners, shad, gobies, lakes with a suspect bait fish population the might run lighter? They like crawfish but baitfish probably makes up most of their food. Erie can be alive with baitfish and shad at times, see them spotting all over. Biggest one I saw personally at a weigh in was 24 inches and 7.2 pound at Lake Chautaqua in New York, healthy fat fish, and a live release, buddies son got it and enough of a bag with it to send me home with thoughts of fishing harder.

Didn`t mean to imply it`s all stolen, just something to be aware of. Haven`t seen many knock offs here. Guy at the flea market with a regular both buys up the closeouts from store, pennies on the dollar I guess. Zoom 6 inch lizards are like 2.39 a pack here in stores, he usually has them for a buck, Rapalas 4 to 8 bucks in stores here 2.50 to 3.50 usually at his both. Mustad wide gap BLN hooks around 3 bucks for 5 in stores here, a buck from him. Deals out there, just have to look, and probably use a little caution at times.

LOL birds are still here, an early flight? Stupid birds, call ahead! We got 1 1/2 -2 inches of snow yesterday evening. Just hope the high waters doesn`t hurt the walleye spawn in the Erie tribs. Way to early to get too excited here, we have had some pretty good snow falls even going into early April.

I have heard warnings here about teams shoplifting from stores here to stock their flea market activities, usually small sort of expensive stuff razor blades and such like 10 bucks a package, they sell for 5 to 7.

Question for "recreational fisherpersons"
OhioFisherman replied to sirfish's topic in General Discussion
What ever happened to the Harrisons? I thought they did a good job with their posts and gave some helpful information. I just don`t like the posts to sound like commercials, if your a pro try not to come across as one, we expect you to be able to put clients on fish. Lodge owner, guide, no problems, gotta love the sport or you would be driving a truck or something. Nice to have people on the board to guide us novices from making errors, some do it better than others though. -
I am mostly a bass fisherman, but fished for walleye a lot on Lake Erie and on the Georgian Bay when in Ontario, I used the same tackle for it. Casting, trolling, still fishing didn`t matter to me, the rod I want in my hand is the one that feels right, for me a medium or medium heavy fast taper rod will do for most species. Not the best setup for Steelhead or Ski`s though, nice to have extra rod length for Steelhead because they move fast and a softer action to help prevent pullouts. Get a muskie trucking towards a boat dock or lily pads and it`s nice to have a rod stiff enough and line heavy enough to make a stab at turning them, the just hang on leaves you feeling a little helpless. I do think you develop a feel with experience with a rod and reel combination, you get used to what to expect and it makes it easier to detect an unusual feeling like a bite. Just the way various lures feel when running and when they feel different because of something foreign on them weeds a fish, line running against a snag.

If you have a commercial drivers license and some experience in the industry this might help? https://www.myyellow.com/dynamic/services/c...nion/index.html

Right handed and started fishing back in the mid to late 50`s using right hand retrieve bait casters then left hand retrieve spinning reels also. I bought the first left hand retrieve baitcaster I saw Abu 5001c and followed it up with more. Shimano increased my options with a lot of lefties back in the 70`s and 80`s. There are a lot of choices out there now for left hand retrieve bait casters compared to the old days. Nothing like the thrill of a good strong right handed hook set, watching the fish sail thru the air into the boat and playing with it in the live well. Or a live release.

Spring is near, the birds know!
OhioFisherman replied to OhioFisherman's topic in General Discussion
fishindevil, ya Robins here for about 2 weeks now, sort of odd seeing the wander in the spots in the yard that didn`t have snow. Most of the yard is open now and I have heard Cardinals. I don`t think the Canada geese ever leave here. Dead coons and skunks on the roads already, daughters boyfriend saw a possum at work about a mile away. No ground hogs yet, they hang at the back of my property. -
I don`t remember exactly when BigFish recommended it but I have been using the AVG free edition ever since, no problems. Like 2004-2005?

LOL Phil, Hinkley isn`t far from me, the buzzards keep an eye on me. They circle around here all the time. Had a Buzzard or hawk carrying something land on the grade at the back of the property earlier in the week with a couple of his friends trying to grab the meal. -
Ya JP and I believe Justin Hoffman also, some good articles!

Is Fluorocarbon leader worth the premium price?
OhioFisherman replied to tschirk's topic in General Discussion
I have never used fluoro leaders, just weren`t around when I made my trips to Ontario. That said, I have a whole new outlook on the importance of quality leaders though, most of my lost fish up north came from not using a steel leader, or one that didn`t hold up, had snaps open(bend) wire pull out of crimps. Use a good quality product.
