  1. Any fellow OFNers who have work experience with concrete? I'm in need of a 5" thick pad approx. 8'x8' for a hot tub. I'm in Stoney Creek. Thanks! Huey Graphite
  2. That's a great idea. I'll have to have a look up on the escarpment. Thanks!
  3. Can anyone recommend a storage facility for a boat/trailer in this area. Haven't decided yet whether to go with a heated facility or otherwise. Thanks in advance.
  4. That's interesting, funny and sad all at the same time!
  5. I don't have to worry about this. With my appetite, when I go camping the bears hide their food.
  6. Almost spit my coffee!
  7. At 1st I was unable to see anything but CW but after covering her upper body as suggested and focusing for about a minute, I was able to get it to switch to CCW and then when I uncovered the upper body it continued CCW. I was then able to switch Cw to CCW at will. Cool!
  8. Great pics and nice looking muskie. Is it okay to say "muskie" and "BBQ" in the same thread?
  9. Wow! Nice catch. Must have been surprised at first sight. A friend of mine got a sturgeon in the lower rapids several years ago. Said it was 5 feet if I recall correctly. Got it on a mepps spinner while trout fishing.
  10. Father of 3 and no fishing for less than a week?......As my Newfie in-laws say "you poor slut" (just kidding of course) Nice catch. The grand has no shortage of carp, catfish, sheepshead etc.
  11. Glad to hear you escaped unharmed. I know that bend well. My brother lives around the corner on Allanport Road. Your reflexes served you well last night.
  12. Finally got a few hours to myself and after renewing my annual membership for the Hamilton Conservation Authourity, launched out of 50 Point in Grimsby Saturday around 4:30pm. Employees at the marina as well as another boat just returning, said not much had been reported that day but lately those that were catching, were getting them in 100ft of water 40 feet down. They also mentioned a few brown trout had started to migrate into the marina (which I found surprising) and there were salmon staging close to shore. I did a quick search with my sonar close to shore but saw nothing so I threw on my lifejacket and ventured out about 3 or 4kms off shore and dropped my downrigger when I reached 100ft deep. Fished for about an hour but had no takers and marked nothing on the fishfinder. Headed back to fish the last half hour of daylight close to shore and on my final pass had my only hit of the day. I was flat-lining a large spoon about 100 feet behind the boat, not paying much attention. I threw the motor into neutral but it spit the hooks after about 10 seconds and several head shakes. Hopefully things will improve over the next few weeks. Anyone else fish Lake Ontario out of Grimsby in the fall?
  13. I'm sorry for your loss. He is a young looking 86 in that picture. Hold on to your memories.
  14. Great Shots. Looks like the Queenston/Lewiston bridge.
  15. You gotta like it when your instict is bang on and you're rewarded for it. Nice lookin fish and the scenery pics are worthy of screensaver.
  16. Winona (officially Stoney Creek now I guess). My heart is still in Niagara. Hey Uncle Buck. Think you can hit me from the plateau with a 8 ounce pencil weight?
  17. I've had my boat out twice since last winter and the first time I couldn't get her started (forgot the kill switch). Finally this weekend I think I'll have time to get it wet again. Can anyone tell me if I'm wasting my time launching at 50 point in Grimsby? If not there, any other suggestions within 75kms? I'd really like to find some salmon or trout. Thanks in adavance. HG
  18. Just a little delay in posting this report. Spent last half of July in New Brunswick with the family visiting my brother-in-law and his family. His home is in Grand Bay overlooking the Saint John River. Here is a shot of the view we had. He arranged for a night of fishing at a secluded lake where his buddy has the only cottage. It is amazing just how much uninhabited land there is in the province. To get there is an 8km ride accessible only by ATV and then a short boat ride to the cottage. I rode shotgun in a Yamaha Rhino. Could not believe how easily it overcame the rugged terrain. A tree right overtop of his cottage has a Bald Eagle nest with one adult and 2 juveniles. We fished from about 6pm to dusk and boated about 6 smallmouth between us and a few chub. Missed another 5 or 6. We were casting into the weeds with body baits and most hits came right after they hit the water. It was fun to watch them break the surface. All fish were released. Would have liked to keep 1 or 2 but instead had an awesome steak dinner prepared for me. Here is a view from the cottage. Fortunately the next day I had my craving for fish satisfied with this.......... As always had a great time and my in-laws were wonderful hosts. One lifetime is too short to see all of this beautiful country of ours.
  19. Great pictures. It must have been quite an experience for Jaden. I was in high school reading JRR Tolkein's The Hobbit when I got into Rush's Cares of Steel and it was interesting to see the references in the lyrics to the story of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Saw Rush several times including in the early '90s when another great Canadian band, The Tragically Hip opened for them. HG
  20. Sorry to hear you got skunked Rich! At least the scenery in the harbour is nice
  21. The scenery is incredible and you managed to capture that in each pic. Awesome report!
  22. They had this same deal on just before Christmas last year. There was a DVD player for $40.00. Included was a mail in rebate for $20 plus when I got to the register they had 4x the Canadian Tire Money back ($4.00 back). I ended up spending $6.00 for a $40.00 DVD Player and it works great! HG
