Congrats Rich! I'm sure you're already hunting for a life jacket in that size!

Good for you Jen. If you use caution it can be a money saver and a great learning experience. Sometimes however you can cause more harm than good. I learned that from attempting auto repair. I have to be selective in what I attempt and what I leave to the experts. Dustinnnnnnnn, If you have a voltmeter and can access the motor, check at the two wires where they enter the motor for DC voltage. At maximum speed you should have approx. 12V DC. If you are getting voltage, it's safe to assume the problem is with the motor and probably not worth repairing. If you are not getting voltage than the problem is in your controls. If you can, trace back to where you are getting voltage. In most cases the control module is encased in silicone or epoxy. PM me if you decide to troubleshoot it.

Saw this on another board. Not sure what's funnier the thread or the username of the guy that posted it. http://www.longpoint.on.ca/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6953

Wow! Those are some great pics and many well fed fish. -
Yeah no kidding. I too am sick of seeing them blowing around our roads and floating on our waterways. I recently discovered they as well as all paper cups can go into our green bins.

Perch Fishing. Cooks Bay or Port Maitland?
huey graphite replied to express168's topic in General Discussion
I second the Marineland opinion. Lots of walking between the few rides, very expensive definitely a tourist rip-off (I grew up in Niagara). The Great Wolf Lodge is on Victoria Ave near the Niagara Parkway just above the whirlpool however this time of year you might have a hard time with vacancy. Who the hell would name a zoo "Killman" As for fishing, I was at Port Maitland last Saturday and managed about a dozen at the mouth on pickerel rigs in about 2 hours. Early morning is better but good luck getting the family up and out early enough. Also, the perch run there typically only lasts for a couple of weeks. I'm sure Fishmaster can let you know if they are still in. The nice thing about Port Maitand is if the perch bite is off or if the winds are high, you can fish the river for pickerel, sheephead, catfish etc. Will keep the kids busy. There is a free launch at the mouth and there is a playground there but the lot fills quite quickly. The launch isn't the greatest but sufficient. There is a better launch at the Dunnville dam behind the arena just under $10 and it's a short boat ride to the mouth. Good luck! -
I have a family summer vacation planned for later in the summer, visiting family in the Saint John area and my brother-in-law is working on planning a day out on the Miramichi River. I've never fly fished but always wanted to try. Looks like I may have my opportunity. I'm going to have to do a little practicing in advance. I've been told the difference between hooking fish and not has a lot to do with how delicately you place the fly. I've heard stories of how a great the river fishing is in New Brunswick and can't wait. Anyone experienced it first hand? HG

Finally got the boat out (Port Maitland)

How did you make out on Sunday Pikehunter? -
Well 2nd if you include launching but not getting the motor started and immediately trailering. That was a month ago. Woke up at 7am and prepped the boat and trailer. Picked up some minnows and launched at Port Maitland By 9am the launch parking lot was already full. Just a hunch but might have to do with the bass opener. Was really looking forward to trying out my new fishfinder. A Lowrance LCX15MT. It put me on the perch today. Not huge numbers but good by my standards. Fished with the crowd of boats at the mouth just off the rocks in about 23 feet of water. Temps were around 74 degrees. I knew to move when the sonar was showing nothing on the bottom. and each time I moved the bite picked up. After and hour and a half I had 7 keepers in the live well between 10" and 12". Threw a back several smaller and had numerous misses. I was using a pickerel rig and twice had two hooked. The perch then moved out and couldn't find them. Decided to try in the lower Grand River trolling body baits for pickerel but to no avail. Saw numereous fish jump wish I suspect were carp or ling. Always a nice day on the water there. If the bite is slow, the skydivers at the Dunnville airport are fun to watch. HG

Kudos to you Brian. You've given that young man a day fishing he'll be telling about for years to come. Perhaps even one day here on OFC. Brandon...the quality of those pics is incredible.

Great pics Terry! He's dressed like that because he was fishing in between the ceremony and the reception like any diehard fisherman would!

LAKAIR, Year One ! (and then some, more pics)

Haha Well I got fished in as I was reading that! -
Why don't you just Photoshop them. I thought that was your area of expertise!

Wow those are some great pics. My wife has relatives in Lab City and has visited and witnessed them. Hope to one day as well. "Aurora borealis The icy sky at night Paddles cut the water In a long and hurried flight" "Pocahontas" by Neil Young

I'm surprised to hear BPS would not price match. I'm not surprised they were more expensive. A month ago I was shopping for a new transducer and powercord and bought at BPS. Their online prices(USD) were comparable to LeBarons once I did the price conversion. Their shelf prices at the store in Vaughan however were much higher. Made the purchase and compared again to LeBarons who were about 20% cheaper. I called BPS and they said they do price matching, I just needed a copy of the LeBaron ad. Wnet back and was credited the difference. After spending an hour installing the transducer, I found they put the wrong transducer in the package. The product code on the packaging was correct but the transducer was for a different model. Their solution was to replace it with the correct one. I'm out an hour of my time and another hour driving. Not even an apology. They blamed it on the manufacturer (Lowrance) but the packaging appeared to have been opened and reclosed. Guess where my business will be going from now on? Oh and by the way.....congratulations on the Minnkota. Looks like a beauty! HG

Nice report and pics too! I fish that area as well although have not done well in the past 2 years. That is unbelievable about the close call with the deer and where it was. Don't worry, you're in good company. I think we can blame the launch. That's the same one where I struggled to start my motor, only to later realize it was a forgotten killswitch.

Congratulations! Great report .....oh, and that smile of hers says it all!
-
Well it's about time. Missed your reports. Now we just have to get Nautifish to return. I do however have one question for you. Have you made it a goal for 2007 to catch all of Ontario's ugliest fish?

I need to get some OFC gear and stickers for the boat. I think I recall seeing the Tracker. Earlier in the day we were stopped in the same area by the OPP and searched for all the safety gear. They were friendly but got down to business quickly then moved on. The day before there were some rental boats from the Waltonian in the area with fisherman enjoying a brown pop or two. They were very lucky the OPP weren't there a day earlier.

I was just getting on the hiway Toronto bound at 6am and saw the rollover of a minivan in the ditch going Niagara bound. Appeared to be 2 people standing and 2 or more lying in the ditch ( keep in mind I was going 100km/h). There was no one else on the seen yet. It must have just happened. I calledd 911 and asked for the OPP. They said they were already on the way. Sure enough approaching the skyway I saw 4 OPP cars speeding to the scene in the opposite direction. Hope it wasn't too serious. I can't understand why there have been so many accidents and closures over the past month. More than there was all winter long.

Oh my God! I've got tears in my eyes from laughing! I love the regular and Cajun and this past weekend tried the Uncle Bucks original from BPS. It is similar to Cajun Fish Crisp only a little milder. It was awesome!

We departed Stoney Creek Thursday around 7am and arrived at Cozy Cove Cottages in the Deep Water Point area around 1:30pm. After unpacking our gear, having our first beer and launching the boats we were fishing by 3:00pm. Within 2 minutes of dropping my jig I had the trips first walleye. It measured 16", just in the Nipissing slot size so back in it went. Thought this was a sign of good things to come but by 9:30pm it was my only walleye. Managed several nice sized perch which made for a nice fish fry the next day. The Uncle Bucks original tastes incredible. 2 of the 3 others in our group had 5 or 6 walleye between them that were just under the slot limit and a few more that were within it. They too had a few perch. Throughout the 3 days we found many spots out in 25 to 40 feet of water where we marked scattered walleye but few takers. We then noticed all the shad larvae shells on the surface. An early hatch due to the heat made walleye fishing tough this year. I didn't manage another until late on the last day. Got 2 more and a small pike as well. First one in probably 3 years. The highlight was around 5pm on our last evening (Saturday) when we found a school of perch. The bite was hot for about a half an hour. When the school moved, we moved with it. For about 3 hours we caught perch steadily and ended up with 45 between 2 of us. When we started there were no other boats within view. We threw out a marker buoy and thanks to the lack of wind, boat control was easy. It wasn't long before there were about 15 boats in the area. I could see they managed the odd perch and further away some were catching the occasional walleye. A few appeared frustrated. Being on top of the school was the difference for us. 10 feet in any direction and you were off. Wasn' t the walleye we went up there for but it sure was fun for a few hours. In total 4 guys over 3 days caught about 20 walleye, aproximately half were keepers and well over 100 perch. We ate too much and drank even more. Can't wait 'til next year. Our hosts Bud and Linda were very courteous and the cottage was more than adequate. The heat and humidity on the water was almost unbearable. My picture taking skills leave much to be desired but I've posted a few anyway. HG
