  1. "It's too bad people aren't 'outraged' when loads of fat salmon are roped up and dragged along the bank by steelheaders looking for free roe... ;)" I can't tell you how upset I feel when I see a 10lbs brown trout gutted laying by Bronte Creek or somewhere, they take the eggs and leave the meat, like what? . That should outrage anyone who fishes, I've heard of guys in cambridge throwing 5lbs eyes on the bank to rot because they areeating the guys trout flies, seriously? But whenever I saw somehting to them i'm a member of P3TA or just a liberal activist fool. Really!? Why am I being vilified for being concerned with the fisheries future? lol, I understand it is their right to 'keep' the fish, but seriously, its okay to keep any fish as long as our faulty regs say its okay? lol - may be why so many of our pressured lakes are in decline. sorry for the rant(s) guys and gals
  2. Interesting points here. I suppose my main question would be availability of the species - if there is enough of a constantly reproducing population (natural, stocked or both) to sustain the pressures of a harvest, then its really not wrong to take your legal limit and not waste the fish without damaging the ecosystems. I do tend to get upset when I see trophies in the guts bucket up north or guys pulling out a stringer full of kawartha 5 pound eyes or pictures of 150 jumbos in a cleaning hut. I eat fish don't get me wrong, I just think it is interesting to see other people who have totally contrary views to mine, but in many cases neither side is truly morally wrong if the ecosystem isn’t being abused/ balanced and properly reproducing. I personally think our first concern should always be ensuring that there will be a fishery for the nest generation to selectively harvest a healthy reproductive population, i mean we can all sit here and argue that it was his legal right to take the fish, sure, but just because you could chop down the whole forest doesn't mean you should lol The way I see it this video isn't a legal way to catch fish as he is breaking a bunch of traffic laws in the process lol just my two cents.
  3. I have heard good things about the Avids Ice Series, I know the softwater ones are really sweet, and I can suggest those to you... lol. I have also heard good things about the 38 inch Frabill Gussy rods, does anybody have any personal experience with those?
  4. At the end of the day, everyone has their personal preferences and personal takes on what the best technique and/or tactic to catch fish is. I think the most important thing is finding your own niche; if that means using a stick tied with mono or a Thorne Bro's rod, I'd say - use whatever you feel most confident in and that is usually going to be the most productive for you. As long as you are fishing legally who cares whether you spent 5 bucks or 150 on your setup if you like it and it works lol?
  5. Cool, pretty far away but if you know of any places that want or need help my name is Chris, I am always interested in that sort of stuff. Or let me know if you are ever down in the south and wanted to go out fishing eh! ahaha
  6. Burlington, am In Waterloo at the moment for schooling though, yourself?
  7. I don't know what the quality of Costco's Fish Inn hut is, but if you want one that you can return unconditionally then that's probably the place to go! lmao I have seen some people bring back some crazy stuff when I worked there, overcooked steak without any sort of seasoning, one piece of apple pie, worn out shoes... all taken back for at least partial discounts lol but Sail is really good as well so maybe this is just a moot point... sorry! lol
  8. not much snow on the ground in K.W, its just blowing everywhere, as long as there's ice forming I suppose lol
  9. You should get a pee bucket! My dad has to pee every 15 mins on the water because he drinks so much water lmao, so he just cut off the top of Tropicana containers so you have a handle to hold and everything. Doubles as a bailing bucket as well lol Everytime we have someone new out in the boat they always comment on how much he has to pee lol, We have learned not to sit on the side the cooler is as you spend less time fishing and more time getting out water bottles for the guy ahaha
  10. That's awesome! Thanks for the info! I would love to get involved and help out with some of the stocking programs, guess its time to do some research as exams are almost over ahaha Thanks again SBK! Tight Lines!
  11. ahaha yea, sounds to me like you may have to find a place close to the city to please your 'better half' lol . There are lots of nice parks around and in the GTA if that's an option and you don't mind being around other people close to the city. If you really want to avoid bugs in Ontario you should think about going in the fall or later summer, bring a portable heater for the nights if it gets too chilly for you!
  12. aha Thanks BillM - I would like to think I am not one of those "insane youngin's" but empirical evidence may suggest otherwise... lol
  13. ahaha really? I think i missed that I'll have to find that thread aha nevermind- i saw it already lol
  14. lol I thought you were going to say wait until it freezes
  15. This has been a pretty costly year so far and its not over yet! lol Had to replace my St.Croix and Shimano jigging setup and dad's depth finder after they went over to the bottom of the lake lol I bought my first baitcasting setup - a Pflueger (supreme?) Fenwick ML combo I got on sale at Sail, I have to say I really like it so far. Also bought a couple of the Thorne Bro's Ice Rods. Plus way too much tackle. Now I just need another jigging reel for softwater and one for hardwater, probably both Shimano ... lol
  16. Same, I just got a couple new ice rods from a guy here! guy was very nice and gave me a good deal, even invited me to give him a call to go fishing one day if we could work it out lol. Awesome experience, really glad I joined this site, just got my buddy to join as well! lol
  17. Okay I thought so! I certainly didn't have any plans on getting out there before the new year, but i suppose hearing of lakes up north being frozen since November and some of the recent reports about the Kawartha's got me too antsy ahaha Thanks Craig!
  18. I haven't had any issues there, bought and sold my sailboat there. I don't worry too much about low-ballers (I have likely done it before to be honest), I don't think there is much harm in asking for a deal as long as you are respectful and polite in doing so. That being said, if you make a deal for a price don't go back on your word looking for a better deal, after the fact. Just be careful I suppose
  19. ahahaha that's out of our price range, I have to spend my money on more sensible things like fancy rods and gear so I have an excuse to go fishing more often. But now that you mention it our internet has been getting noticably slower lately... ahaha Also, do you know what happened to those Uncut angling guys Manitoubass2? They haven't posted any actual fishing video in 8 months or so and the last post on their Facebook page wasn't of photo of theirs and that was in October or something lol.
  20. Simcoe is covered? I thought it was still open lol, I prefer your news though ahaha I have only ever seen the sheltered bays and harbors freeze on Lake O the main body is always open my end
