I don't know if there is a study, let a lone any replicable scientific evidence that would show that this is something that happens to all stressed walleye's North America Wide. I will ask the people I know in environmental and fishery studies and get back to you. I suppose i should have been more clear, the change in colour is from my experience a stress related factor lol, Just from my experience, they first throw up the food in their belly when they are scared or feel threatened as a way to try and get the predator to go after the digesting contents from their gut instead of them, then they start to change in colouration, then they die and for some reason turn back to their original colours most of the time. So this is all just from my personal experience (except the first part about throwing up the food), but as said before I will ask some profs and some of my friends to see if they know of any studies that would prove my theory. It is kind of a hard thing to study though lol,

There are lots around in the streams in the GTA from what I've heard, its more that they are the only completely aquatic salamander in Canada as well as the largest. We just don't know a whole ton about them from what I understand. Also salamanders and other amphibians like frogs are the first to show problems within an ecosystem so it is important that we understand these guys and their habitats before we do some more irreversible damage

That is a stress thing Manitou, they get that in the livewell sometimes as well, Kind of neat to see though know what I mean? I think part of it is also trying to adapt to their surroundings because I have pulled walleye out of the same lake from rock piles and sand bars and you would think one is from Lake Winnipeg and one was from Spanish or something. You guys aren't wrong about them lasting on the stringers though, don't get me wrong! I have also had fish last all day on stringers, however I also agree that once a fish is on the stringer it isn't right to send them back. I think how long they will last it has a lot to do with the water temps, and water colour. I have also found that they last longer in darker stained water than clear and up north in colder lakes they last longer than in warmer ones, In my experience at least. And Joey I think most people have lost a stringer with some fish on it at some point or another, I know I have lol.

Looks that way! I guess it makes sense though, fish in the livewell will outlast ones on stringers pretty much everytime...

Not exactly what you were talking about, but just found these after readin a KVD article, I thought it was a pretty cool idea. He also talked about clip-on weights that attach to the split ring. http://www.basspro.com/STORM-Suspendots-and-SuspenStrips-Weights/product/202/

What kind of electronics do you use on the ice.

I think I am going to spend some money on a GPS, but how do you like the 597 Costa? was looking at it, but got the cheaper version instead lol... -

I just use my Humminbird 570 portable for Ice fishing, got it last year to replace the old one which sunk after the canoe flipped , but it works great for soft and hard water so far, and for the camera I use the Aqua Vu 740c Series which also works great, haven't had an issue with either thus far! -
Big Jons are awesome as said before by everyone lol. I also second that the spring line counters work great, just remember to zero them before you put it back down, it is easy to change the depth accidentally when fiddling with things. We've been running Big Jon's since before I could handle a King by myself lol.

Did you contact the MNR about the Mud Puppies? Another member made a post about the MNR asking for any information on them if you catch one eh. From what he said you can send the info to this E-mail - [email protected]

I should have posted that information in my comment, sorry for making you do that Lunker!

aha, the looks you would get going down the ramp in that would be priceless lol

Inexperience with Planers and Dispsy's shouldn't be a reason to stay clear of them, they are really easy to get the hang of and as Fang said they will save you a lot of troubles! lol. I don't use stackers, but I will still run a cheater off each of the riggers, then the Dispsy's, then the planers depending on the season, how deep and how many people we have out lol

Video of a "sportsman" dragging a trophy Musky to his truck

I think the issue(s) that were presented originally weren't about poaching as it is in season, but rather - just because it's legal doesn't mean its right; I mean he was in a truck - even if it was an under fish it probably would not have been able survive lol, I think most everyone has been respectful on a topic full of differing opinions and they are nice to hear in my opinion, but I do agree it might have been nice to see it stay where it was a month ago lol -
First ice fishing trip of 2015 - Lake Couchiching

I am thinking that should be your next investment buddy lol -
Like the other guys said, you wouldn't get enough power from the run to your spot. You would be better off just buying a better battery or hooking up a bank system in my opinion

Nice fish!

Is Kempenfelt and the main section safe yet? I was on Couchiching around the same time some of the other guys were posting reports and had 5-8" of ice but was told that Kempenfelt was still open, that was a few days ago though, things may have changed, just curious I suppose as I know the perch grounds and cooks bay had people on it

Oohhh, nice fish! I am going to try to get my first whitefish this winter if time allows! Thanks for the posting!

I caught a 12.8 pound Walleye on BOQ when i was in grade 11, then less than ten minutes later my dad caught a 14.6 pound eye... Kind of stole my thunder! lol
