  1. Is there a fair bit of snow up there right now?
  2. Yes I do also enjoy watching Cyrill's show when it's on Old Ironmaker and River Monsters is the only show I can get my roomates to watch at school lol. I also find most shows give little tips, some more than others - the next bite does those site bite bits which can be good, IDO as well i think has some good stuff, however i do skip through their adds...
  3. I like the Next Bite and In Depth Outdoors, but have to agree on the lack of Canadian content in general, Uncut angling was Canadian, but I don't know what happened to them lol. Besides I don't have WFN, I just watch their Youtube video's. That way I can just see the catch's and tip and fast forward through the 25 mins of infomercials lmao. I agree with bigugli, T.V in general is pretty terrible these days, I think the fishing shows are just another product of make money at all costs programming to be honest.
  4. I agree for the most part, but that being said most places that see the most people are the places that need the rehabilitation the most, all the millions wasted on randals reef comes to mind (that's a lost cause i think). However, It would be a huge economic loss if we gave up on rehabilitating tourist attractions like quinte and lake O in general, or erie etc. all together because they aren't pristine like some northern lakes. Those need to be protected undoubtedly, and before they get abused by the general public. I think the best way to protect the northern resource(s) would be to make a sustainable one here, cleaner lakes for swimming, stocking programs for fishing and informative educations programs and tours.
  5. I hope you aren't saying that once everyone started to play by the rules and care about others playing by the same provincial/ zone wide regulations that the fishery became sustainable again. Maybe I am reading this wrong lol (and if I am I am terribly sorry!), but the legal size limit isn't something that can voluntarily be obeyed. It is the law, why would these camps tolerate people keeping more than their limits and larger fish than their limits in that zone permitted them to take?
  6. Aha Jeremy84 that's okay! At least you got her to take it off, we are still working on my buddy's g/f and I dont think my grandmother is going to change now at 89... lol, I never minded baiting the hook or taking the fish off when we had people out anyways because it usually means we are catching something, and that in turn usually results in a good time lol Those were awesome aha, but I think I need to get back into shape before I begin to think about taking on one of those GT's. I feel like I struggle enough trying to get a down-rigging rod out of the holder with a 25+ lbs Ontario King going for a run as is...Maybe I should spend $30 less on tackle this winter and buy a gym membership and some weights instead ahahaha.... fat chance.
  7. Some people just have the knack for it I think, when we would go out with my grandmother I had no time to bait my own hook let alone get to the front of the boat to make a cast in between rigging up a leech or worm for her and/or landing a 2+ pound bass you name it ahaha. She doesn't like touching the bait so the joke was always that I would take my time rigging her up to give the others in the boat a chance to catch something lol
  8. These are some seriously awesome photo's! Thanks for sharing I enjoyed every one!
  9. Aha sounds like my buddy! He was talking about giving up on it because his girlfriend out-fished him this year! ahahahaha
  10. I would like to win a tournament or even a friendly derby one day with a fat 10+ pound eye on a relatively smaller northern body of water. I have caught a walleye that went almost 15lbs on Quinte a while ago now, but I don't think that it the same to puling out a 10lbs monster out of a lake around Timmins. Ah, on second thought any trophy regardless of species is good for me, as long as they get to swim again. I would never keep a fish to be mounted, just take the photos and measurements to have a replica done if it came to that, I think the replica's look better anyways IMO lol
  11. I used to fish lower Buckhorn for walleye open and in July with the family when the ladies would want to go up lol I have family just outside of Buckhorn and Bobcaygeon and a buddy with a cottage around there brings back memories ahaha. Never had any issues with the muskies, I remember going out one night with my dad and hooking into a decent one, the lady in the boat across the shelf from us was loosing her mind, she didn't know those toothy critters where in there ahahaha! not sure what rock she had been living under but oh well, at least she was having fun lol I haven't been up Ice fishing for anything yet since it opened a couple years back, Hopefully the die-off(s) weren't too bad last year! I would like to get out in the area to some old and new spots!
  12. Geeze, this thread makes me want to find one of those super cheap functional sleds just so I don't have to walk so far on the ice! aha Some great stuff you guys have found!
  13. I always think about the old saying "90% of the fish hold in 10% of the water" before I go to a spot, I think I saw this last week and it sure made me think about the sustainability of some lakes as well as why some people find walleye fishing so tough lol
  14. Hmmm, interesting stuff, thanks for the feedback guys! Seems a lot of people use it, thanks for the MSDS, I hadn't even thought of that lol -Chris
  15. Yea, but is that stuff safe for the environment? I would rather just deal with the ice build up then put more toxic chemicals in the water where i would want to take my grandkids fishing ahaha -Chris
  16. I went the week after thanksgiving because I had a break in October from school this year. We caught one walleye over ten pounds and two around 20 inch's then the biggest drum i have ever caught, thing was almost 15 pounds and pulled the planer back like Kings do lol. I know they may be junk fish, but i will tell you the big ones are sure fun to catch ahahaha
  17. aha sorry Bill, sounds like I brought up some bad memories ahaha. I have had good luck with it fishing for walleye's and pike in logs throughout the year - have never had any issues with the heat personally but meh, it may be time to try a new one as i have heard lots of guys say the same... Do you spool the flouro directly to your spool? I have generally only used it for leaders or cheaters. -Chris
  18. The meaning of life is an easy question, it's Happiness and love. Just so happens fishing makes me happy and I love to do it ahahahahaha - so perhaps the meaning of life is indeed fishing, you guys are onto something. I dont know why I took philosophy courses in school, I should have just come here ahahahaha but in all seriousness: I used the Sufix 832 last year on the ice because I had a bunch of good line that came off my open jigging rods and I wasn't keen on throwing it all away, I have big guides on my ice rods, but still the braid froze so easily - I am curious in your opinions, are there any winter superlines/braids that are similar to the Sufix 832 and good at stopping or at least reducing the ice build up on the line? (there will be ice some on my guides and lines I understand, sometimes there's not much i can do about that in -30 temps lol). Now the line never broke or frayed because of the cold water, I suppose I am more just curious to see if there is any good braids that would reduce the ice build up and are like the sufix? It is by far my favorite line for jigging at the moment and i like to keep things the same for the most part ahaha Thanks - Chris
  19. find a mud flat, or wherever the flies are I guess lol... use a small split shot to get the fly down and just use flies until the mayflies are gone. then switch back to minnows and gurbs or whatever was working before you switched
  20. In my opinion, I would keep it closed for a couple more years for a couple reasons. First, I think it would really help the Trout, Walleye etc. populations grow in size and number because of more bait available for them, but also why take the chance? I mean yes, I caught more of them this year then before, but it is better safe than sorry IMO. I think a couple more years of stocking and no fishing would also really help the reproduction of them naturally and create a buffer so if it for some reason doesn't work with limited harvest they aren't a completely collapsed population. Anybody else agree?
  21. tree4, that sucks! As I said we went end of june and didn't have any problems with kids or our neighbours, but now that I think of it the Park rangers were real dicks the whole week we were there. I mean the guys were literally hiding behind a bush beside our campsite at 9:55 so they could come chew us out for talking after 10. I'm glad you said something because I had forgotten why we stopped going lol. It's sad because the place was really nice I thought, may have been what I am used to lol, but the only way I would go back is if i was certain all the previous Rangers were gone. My bad on the last post! I knew there was something missing
  22. I would suggest Grundy Lake for what you have described. It is about 4 hours drive from Hamilton up the 69 and is a really nice park with three lakes that are really easy to canoe and portage around. I went a couple years ago with some of my city friends and they were all fine where we stayed. The lots were really nice and there weren't many people when we went end of June, though that may be a different story further into the summer season A couple people above mentioned amenities and these were actually quite nice as they had toilet paper and had been cleaned recently! lol The park is failry popular from what I understand and was certainly well maintained and very very pretty. this fishing was okay, the group i was with wasn't too into fishing so we only messed around for a couple of hours , but i still managed a few snot rockets and a few walleye - enough to keep the cityites amuzed ahaha. You can PM me if you have any questions or anything as well. Cheers! and hope you have a great trip! Chris
  23. I agree I am going to be around the Spanish river for opener and am thinking we will be spending our time out on Georgian bay just not to mess with the spawning fish. Hopefully more people will do the same. The spawn will be late this year unless we get a really warm april-may. From what I have studied, fish spawn based on time of year/ moon cycles in accordance with water temps. So, walleye begin to stage around their spawning beds in Jan/Feb, (obviously this depends on the year and system as well) and wait until the fourth of fifth full moon of the year (assuming there's one every month) to start staging in their rivers and tribs, though they may wait for the water temps to rise a couple degrees before they are triggered to lay their eggs. As for the Ottawa, I have to assume it was another Ministry screw-up, they flooded half the cottages around Minden and let too much out to the east, but I don't have facts on that lol sorry.
  24. I wouldn't bother with leadcore in rivers, it is too much of a guessing game and you will need to run way to much line out to get your lures in the strike zones, its not very practical even with line counters unless you are in a large open body of water without much treacherous structure (like Lake O Salmon trolling). Leadcore does work well for flat lining , but you will need 140 ft of line out to get down 30 feet with a diving tail dancer and closer to 300 to get down to 50. It can be great if you are passing over underwater structure in the 30 ft and deeper range with fish stacked at various depths, but for river fishing I would just stay with your three-way rigs and drop-shot's - more control and feel this way I don't like harness's on Leadcore because it just doesn't bring you into the strike-zone like three ways do. Also its sucks having to reel in 300 ft of line to take of a half dead 14 inch walleye that has been dragged across the surface for half a mile. After all is said and done, Leadcore is Great for Great Lakes Flat lining for Salmon, Trout and BOQ Walleye; however for river fishing, I think it may just make you angry lol
