  1. No wonder there are soooo many fish "up there". You know what they say: A bad day fishin'.... One good hour on the ice and all those troubles will be forgotten.
  2. Like the show Dave. I am not a huge fan of the destination shows, but a few in the mix is fine. Specially 400lb bass. I could do without the signing though What was more sore the next day. Upper back Lower back Legs forearms and hands
  3. I'm not condoning drunk driving at all, I think our laws need to be a lot tougher. But of all the things that someone could be denied entry into Canada from the states, or vise versa, a drunk driving offense that has been dealt with by the courts, ie not a pending case with possible jail time, for a non driver in a group going on a fishing trip would seam to be not the best use of resources. However just like around the house, my opinion means squat.
  4. Anybody else get a picture in their heads of Dawg on skates? I had a vision of Bambi on ice. And him knocking himself out with the hackey stick.
  5. And not one hillbilly redneck has fallen through??? That must mean you're all smarter then many of us up here.
  6. Thank goodness, at the very least it allows me to feel smart.
  7. Funny thing is, that is about as good as that situation could have turned out. meathead
  8. No, no, no don't tell them that. Why would people want to know the truth when they could pay 2-3 dollars per litre (remember what happens when gasoline goes over a $1/L?) for water that is the same as what comes out of their taps...FOR ALMOST NOTHING, and they get the added benefit of that yummy plastic taste. As my dad would say: Don't confuse people with facts, when their minds are already made up.
  9. Yesterday afternoon there was a skim of ice over much, not all, of K Bay. It was minus 15 or so over night and still. Today has not been windy. The ice will form, there is nothing you can do to speed-up the process. Find safe ice and stick to it.
  10. Nothin' that couldn't be done in 2-3 lifetimes.
  11. About the only winter project I have time for is an extensive photo essay of a canoe trip I took to the Arctic Ocean almost 12 years ago. Long before I had a digital camera. I hope to post it some time in February when things are getting a little slow and the spring opener still seams to be soooo long away.
  12. Mythbusters did an episode on duck tape. Patched a hole in a boat, made a boat, picked up a car etc.
  13. I need sub titles, grade nine french doesn't cut it. I think yous guys are just trying to lure this anglo onto punky ice. Nice Doré!
  14. What in blazes had she been cleaning with that rag????
  15. I have read most of his books. I didn't get one this year for Christmas though? Definitely not just for fly fishermen. Real incite on anglers, angling and life in general.
  16. http://www.nugget.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2245274 Ice fishing season underway Posted By JENNIFER HAMILTON-MCCHARLES, THE NUGGET Updated 10:00 am, Jan 4 It's never too cold to go ice fishing. The -32C weather Saturday may have kept the weak at home, but for die-hards like Martin Mailloux and Chris Roy, nothing was going to stop them from putting their line in the water. And they weren't alone in their thinking. Callander Bay was a busy spot this weekend. About 75 ice shacks were on the ice with another 150 expected in the next week or two. Finding the perfect fishing spot isn't easy. Mailloux has been going to the same spot on Deep Water Point for the last five years. But the 27-year-old isn't comfortable relying solely on his memory. I used my GPS (Global Positioning System) to make sure I have the exact location," he said. A few people were getting set up Friday, but in no time there will be 1,000 shacks on the lake." Mailloux didn't have much luck, but he did get some action. I missed two," he said. Advertisement But then again, I only had my line in the water for a few hours." It's not just the catch that makes the sport attractive. I go out there to get away from everything and really, I don't care if I catch anything," Mailloux said, confessing that pickerel are the exception to the rule. The fishing bug has also bitten his two-year-old daughter, who also loves the challenge. Mailloux said when the fish aren't biting he usually brings some of her toys and colouring books to keep her occupied. Roy was waiting on the shore of Callander Bay for his family to arrive with the ice shack. He said there are many reasons he prefers Callander Bay. The fishing is really good, but it depends on what you want. We had to return a lot of big ones," he said. The lake is also easily accessible. If you don't have a snow-machine and the snow is too deep (to drive on), you can just walk out." Roy said it may look crowded, but if the fishing isn't good people move their shacks further out the channel near the lighthouse. According to two local bait shops customers were already lined up at their front doors before 6 a.m. It's a little cold, but it's busy as hell," said Bob Esch, owner of Trout Lake Outdoor Centre. A lot of this sport is dictated by the weather, but people still want to go out and catch some fish." Billy Bob Richards, owner of Billy Bob's Bait on Lakeshore Drive, said ice fishing season isn't like summer fishing. People want to get out there early for the morning pickerel bite." Richards said the season has just started, but it looks like it will be a good one. There's lots of shacks out there and there looks to be between eight to 10 inches of ice, which is more than we had last year at this time." Richards said the sport is also becoming more attractive because it's economical. For $3 or $4 you can fish all day," he said. And anyone can do it." Ken Fricker, who lives on the shore of Lake Nipissing near Jocko Point, hasn't seen too much activity on the ice. He loves the sport, but isn't sure the ice is thick enough. I know the ice is safe when people are driving their trucks on it or putting their ice shacks on." Ontario Provincial Police are warning snowmobilers that area waterways are not safe at this time. According to OPP, they've received a couple of reports of vehicles going through the ice Friday, however no injuries were reported.
  17. http://www.nugget.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2244930 Truck breaks through ice Towing company estimates recovery will take a week Posted By Jennifer Hamilton-McCharles Updated 10:00 am, Jan. 4th Bartlett's Towing is currently trying to extract a truck from Links Beach on the southshore of Lake Nipissing. Larry Bartlett told The Nugget that a diesel truck with a plow fell victim to a pressure crack Saturday about 1.3 kilometres from land. He said it should take about a week to recover the truck. "There's a minimum of 10 inches of ice, but we need at least 20 to 25 inches," Bartlett said. "Right now we're working at building up the ice."
  18. You say 9lb 4oz. The paper says 9lb 2oz. And you call yourself a fisherman? You could have claimed 11-12 lbs easy and some would have said 15.
  19. Do they have an internet connection in hell?
  20. Your hood wasn't covering your eyes, was it?
  21. The regs changed a few years ago. The slot is now in place for the winter. Don't know much about early season fish locations but I'm sure your hosts would do their best to put you over fish. Your ability to hook and then land them?
  22. In '92 the Gold was won by the team representing what was left of the crumbling USSR. Technically Russia has never won Olympic gold in mens hockey.
  23. The roster was announced by position in alphabetical order, and while I'm sure the staff has some firm plans for depth, that doesn't have to be (and won't be) reviled until the games commence. The IOC requires them to announce the roster, I'm sure they would rather wait until closer to the games since there is no time to practise anyway.
