  1. Im running lowrance and have no complaints so far. That being said those new humminbird helix units seem to be priced very competitively. Depending on your budget, the elite series is good value too. Since they came out with the elite chirp units, the regular hdi's have gone down considerably in price. In the end, regardless of manufacturer, they're all going to do the same thing so it really comes down to which one you like the best...and can afford lol.
  2. I've never tried those methods... good to know!
  3. Nice boat and I'm jealous lol. Mines stored up north and I was told there's too much snow and mud where it is so they can't even get to it for at least another week... C'mon summertime!
  4. Nicely done
  5. Agreed!
  6. I agree with fishindevil. I used to use power pro, then went to the super 8, then needed to respool and went back to the original power pro and remembered theres no reason to change what works well already. Stuck with it ever since.
  7. Good to know. Thanks! Hmmm interesting...Wonder if you can still eat em lol.
  8. lol good one.
  9. That shadow rap does look like an interesting bait... I'll probably give one a try this year. I agree with the other posters on the scatter rap. I like the erratic action and it works good on bass.
  10. Hey Pete, I'm not sure about the gen1 units but I have a gen2 and was told that you can link an hds unit to an elite unit via the nmea 2000 network. It will allow you to share waypoints but that's it. I'm hoping thats true because I haven't installed the elite unit that I have yet but thats what my plan is. In terms of the other things: share waypoints, trails and routes share a single transducer DOES NOT allow you to share a map chip. You still need a chip for both units. I believe you are correct. the gen2's allow you to share a map chip, I don't know if the gen1's do. check here too for info http://www.bbcboards.net/lowrance-garmin-sonar-gps/
  11. That is a pretty rough day you had chris. At least you guys didn't get skunked but I really hope you find the guys who stole your stuff.
  12. LOL agreed!
  13. There's a coupon on the website and parking is free so your looking at a whopping $13 if you eat before you go. I'm not that close to a cabela's or bass pro, plus it's good to get out and support local companies, get info from manufacturers, meet the pro's, and be around a bunch of people with the similar interests.
  14. LOL Yup I'll be going.
  15. Nice job Mike. Sounds like quite the trip but I'm glad it worked out for you. The booth looked great and I'm sure it was worth it. Good luck and all the best in the future with the company!
  16. That is pretty awesome. I wonder how much it would cost me to convert mine...lol
  17. I heard they were around that price, that's why i opted for an 89 lol I noticed that last year, but didn't make it out this year. I think they do that on purpose so it looks affordable and then try to get you to upgrade.
  18. Nice job. When I was on couch in the summer there were some jumbo perch in there. glad you found them.
  19. Nice fish Pete! I always wanted to catch a pike through the ice...Looks like I'm gonna have to make a trip up your way.
  20. I don't know how I missed this post but I'm glad I saw it and had a chance to read and watch the videos. Truly an amazing experience.
  21. Glad you got your cable lew. Picture should be nice on a new samsung. Ironmaker, If you have the HDMI connected, unplug the red blue and green cables, you don't need them anymore, and the hdmi gives you better quality + sound, with less cables. HDMI can give you 1080p, the other cables can't. Without getting too technical, 1080p is better than 1080i and will give you a better picture. Not all channels and programs are filmed in HD and not all are 1080p but, the ones that are do look better than the ones that aren't.
  22. I don't know if its because I'm so busy these days but It seems like the manufacturers of fish finders & GPS units are coming out with new models every 6 months to me. I remember I when I got the hds gen 2 and I thought, its still a fairly new model and they probably won't come out with new ones for a while. Then they came out with the HDS 7 gen2 with Chirp, then the HDS gen2 touch. I thought for sure the gen2 touch would be out for a while before they came out with any new models, but I neglected the fact that companies have to come out with new models to keep us thinking we need to upgrade, so they can increase their profit. Today I went on the lowrance website for a reason I can't even remember due to shock lol, and now they've come out with the HDS gen 3 touch. It seems like these days it costs a fortune to keep up with technology. Now I know a fishfinder is a fishfinder, and some of you are using older units, or usin the ol' mental map and they work just fine; but the rate they're coming out with new technology is ridiculous these days. When thinking about this it reminded me of a scene from the onion movie so I thought I'd share. I don't know how to post the video directly in here so I'll post the link. The clip focuses on computers and it is an older movie but hopefully you'll get the point. Caution: This video contains coarse language
  23. Just strap a cooler in the back of that thing and your good to go lol. That thing does look pretty impressive. Might need a hard top for the winter though and tracks would put that thing over the top
  24. Seriously? that must have been some strong braid on that rod. lol
