Ya now I know. I picked up a map of the lake after and there was a note about boat and prop eating rocks I did see a lot of panfish but its good to know someones actually catchin bass and pike in there. Guess I'll just have to take it slow until i find them next time.

Interesting facts. Thanks!

Sometimes I use the plastic tubing or snap swivel but this year I started doing the same as Misfish

Just wondering if anyone's fished on that lake before and had any luck. I was working in Orillia last week and talked to one of the locals who said there was some nice pike and bass near the top end of the lake so I managed to get out there once. My reason for asking is because it was kinda scary trying to navigate the island sized rocks hidden under the water every 35ft..it seemed like they were everywhere. We only caught a couple small bass and went through a lot of different presentations so I'm just wondering if anyone's had good luck out there or if your better off fishing somewhere on simcoe.

I think fishing world has them in Hamilton

Nice! I haven't had the pleasure of meeting him but always thought he'd be a good guy so it's good people are clarifying that.

I'd love to spend 2 weeks there...I was up there for the long weekend and fishing was ok. Didn't get to fish too much but me and a buddy caught a couple descent largies. The people at the cottage next to us did well though. They brought back a couple nice 4+lber's. I asked around about the walleye but no one was really catchin them that weekend. It was ridiculously hot there though.

yes, you are correct based on this page. https://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/marinesafety/debs-obs-paperwork-paperwork_boat_licence-1898.htm Just make sure you have the proper safety equipment.

North Caribou Lake - A Mecca For Trophy Pike & Walleye!
AdamS replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
Excellent story! sounds like you and your family had the time of your lives out there. Definitely a great experience. I'll have to put North Caribou on my list:). -
I really like that! Only problem is now I kinda want one...

Hey guys, Just wanted to say thanks for all the replies. You've all given me some valuable information to think about. I'm going to look into the models you've stated and see which one will work best for me. I will most likely end up get something in the 5 series but those 7 series do look pretty sweet. I completely forgot Navionics had an app out so I'll check that out too for backup; keeping in mind I'll need a charged phone or a charger on board. Just to clarify, when you buy the unit, it does come with the transducer and all the wiring you need?

Hey Lape, thanks for the reply. I agree with you and want to get at least a 5" screen. I'll look at the 7 series too to compare. I'm happy installation isn't too bad as I'd rather do it myself than pay someone else if possible. What units are you running?

Hey everyone, So I was away at a cottage this past weekend, took my 89 ranger boat out, fished for a bit, got lost on the water and ran out of gas lol (I laugh now because I survived)... Luckily I had a trolling motor and the lake wasn't too huge. This made me realize I need some form of gps on board. So, I'm just wondering people's thoughts on a good starter gps that would go on my dash. I'm not looking to spend a fortune on this but obviously I want it to be reliable. From what I understand most of the units out there these days are gps + fish finder or other things (which is fine) and it seems like most people have Lowrance or Humminbird (although which is better seems like a chevy vs. ford conversation). So my questions are: What do you recommend or use? Do both companies offer packages with everything you need or do you have to buy each piece separately? Do both allow you to link to another unit? eg.1 at the bow. How hard is it to install/setup? - I know how to use tools but have no experience when it comes to boats. Any help is appreciated Thanks!

My buddy signed up for that a while ago. I think last month he got a crank bait and 2 trial bags of soft plastics (I could be wrong) but I say trial bags because you only get 3-4 per bag. I agree with Brettiop. It's a cool concept, and if your looking to try something new then its not a bad deal.

Thanks for the replies guys. Sinker, what do you mean by a battery minder?
-
As I'm new to the boating scene any help is appreciated. My boat came with one of the minn kota on board chargers and I'm just wondering how often should I be charging my batteries? I'll try to get the model # if that helps but from what I remember I think it charges all of them. Right now I'm using the boat about once a week.

My fibreglass boat has a fair amount of oxidization on the top cap so I was thinking of wet sanding and using 3m marine compound then the restore and wax. I'm hoping this does the trick but I just wanted to know what process you guys use for getting rid of the oxidization on your boats.

I went to west arm lodge last year. I stayed in one of their cottages but as far as I know you can camp out there too. Owners are real nice friendly people.

Ya I found that site and read up on peoples experiences. Theres a lot of really good experiences and some bad ones too! Should I have 3 different bills of sale or all on one with the amounts split?
-
Hey guys thanks for the replies. TimRM I'm buying in New york. The seller says they have all the paperwork and boat/trailer is in good standing.
-
Hi guys I know this is an older post but had a question relating to splitting the sale. I bought a boat from the US and I've read everywhere to bring all correspondence from the sale (i.e. all communication/emails between you and the seller) with you when you import it, as it speeds up the process, and eliminates potential questioning. My question is, if you agreed to a fixed price, say $5000 for boat, motor & trailer, wouldn't customs question you if you broke the payment down into 3 separate bills of sale? And has anyone done this with success?

Damn. I must have missed that page in the flyer..oh well, I'm going to compare the covers from the 2 stores and decide which one will be best for me.
