Hi Everyone......it's Sheri...Lew's daughter, I know that my dad will post a reply to say thank you to all who've replied to his post about my uncle Eddy passing away but I wanted to send out a personal thank you myself. When my brother Jimmy died just over 2 years ago, the outpouring of support that followed from all of you was the most touching gesture I've ever seen especially since alot were from people my dad didn't even know. When my brother Jimmy died, it hit my family like a tonne of bricks and at that time it felt like we would never get through it but with friends like you all, it's made it so much easier. After losing Jimmy we thought we would never have to suffer through another tragedy again but life isn't always so kind. The loss of my uncle has left a huge void in our family, one that can never be filled. As you all know, Eddy was so much more than a brother to my dad, some say they were more like twins, so much alike in many ways....he was his best friend.....in almost 60 years not a argument or even a harsh word ever said to one another. Not only has my dad still not recovered from the passing of my grandfather a number of years ago and his only son dying but now he's been crushed all over again with losing his only brother. With losing my only brother and now my uncle I can say I almost feel what my dad is going through but everyone had a different relationship with each of them and therefor will mourn their loss in a different fashion. My dad and Eddy wanted nothing more than to be able to leave on May 18th and head to Quinte together fishing as they have done for as long as I can remember but instead Eddy had other plans that day. Quinte will never be the same for my dad but fishing and Quinte will go on because that is what my Uncle Eddy would want......My dad will never be the same man again but knowing that 3 of his 4 favorite fishing partners....his dad, his son and his brother are somewhere up there fishing together will make it just a little bit easier.....as for his 4th favorite fishing partner...well that's me and although I have some pretty big shoes to fill, he know's he's still got his little girl to help pull those big muskies in the boat!! Thanks again everyone for all your caring and support. I hope you all know how much he appreciates having great friends like you all!! Sheri

Very sad news, but my brother Ed , who was a member of this board for the last 2 years and posted under the name of Eddyk, has died of cancer at the age of 58 years. Ed wasn't just my brother and lifelong fishing partner, but he was also my best and closest friend my entire life and nothing will ever be the same now that he's gone. We've fished Quinte together every May 24 weekend forever and always took off on a week long camping / fishing trip every September, plus we always got together about once a month to fish the Kawarthas. We've covered alot of water together over the decades including the St. Lawrence, Temagami, Quebec, Gowganda region, Nippissing, the Rideau System and just about every lake in between. Our last trip together was Lakair on the West Arm of Nippissing last September and we were planning on heading there again this year. I know every time in the future that I pitch a tent, cook bacon & eggs on a Coleman stove or light a bonfire, Ed will be standing right beside me and keeping me company and we'll continue to share a boat together in spirit for the rest of time. I have so many wonderful memories and thoughts of Ed from all our years together and it's gonna be very tough going on without him and no fishing or camping trip will ever be the same again. Thats my 3 favorite fishing partners that have gone to the big lake in the sky now, my dad 10 years ago, my son 2 1/2 years ago and now Ed, but I'm sure their all up there to-gether now. Cherish your family now while you can folks, because you never know when something terrible will happen in the future. Ed served his country back in the 60's in the Navy, then went on to work for the City of Toronto for nearly 30 years and rose in ranks to be a Supervisor on the water department and looked after the watermains for a large section of the city. He also served as a volunteer firemen for many years in Scugog Township. He retired 2 years ago, just before he found out he was sick, but went on to enjoy himself in spite of it and bought a new dream home in the country this spring for him and his wife, but unfortunately took a sudden turn for the worse and only got to spend 6 weeks there before being hospitalized. Ed leaves his wife Shelly, daughter Paula and son Joe. Here's a few pictures of Ed in happier times. My brother, my fishing partner, but most importantly, my lifelong best friend !! I love you Ed and miss you terribly already Ed & I on our annual Quinte trip....Ed's on your right. Ed was always happiest when he was doing the cooking A musky he caught last year with Capt. Hooked from Lakair Ed on the left talking with OFNers squid, Robin, amd reefhawg at Quinte last year Ed & I lookin for a Quinte fatty And this is the time of day I'm gonna miss him the most....... Sorry for the long post folks, but it's very hard to describe someone like Ed in just a few short words and I just wish you all had a chance to know him like a few OFNers do. Thanks for reading about Ed and listening to a very sad brother try to describe him.

I'm heading to the trailer in the morning and will be installing my new Global Map 7200C in the boat this weekend, and I also purchased the Gold+ 14XG to go with it, and am anticipating it will be as good as everything I've heard about it over the last couple months. My Gold+ was $240 at West Marine in Toronto BTW

Your explanation is perfectly clear young one and thanks for the updates. Alot of us boat owners are waiting anxiously for the outcome of this.

I've never heard a good thing said about titanium leaders but have heard plenty of complaints about them, specially from guys using them for muskies. Every musky board I visit has had guys complaining about the leaders coming apart, even from smaller fish. We were out one night and my partner was using a brand new one right outta the package and it came apart just from casting a bucktail. Seems like the titanium is so slippery that knots or crimps don't hold and they come undone, and when it happens, which they do very frequentely, you lose the $16 leader, plus the bait your using, plus you leave the fish to die with a face full of trebles. My suggestion would be quality fluro leaders, and if you don't want to make them yourselves, you can buy them pre-made. Just offering an opinion here guys.....

Brian, I wasn't referring to the fact he asked for some fishing spots, that's been hashed over plenty in the last few days, I'm referring to the way some of the folks on this board have started talking to new members lately. You've been on this board as many years as me, infact maybe even more, so you'll remember the way new members were treated back then and they sure weren't made to look like damned fools if they made a mistake in protocol. It never used to be that you had to give your entire life history to ask a question around here but it's sure gotten that way lately !! I never touched a computer in my life and just found this board by accident while I was trying to figure things out and had absolutely NO idea of any type of computer protocol and I sure as heck didn't write an essay on myself and nobody else did back then didn't either, the folks just signed on and joined in the fun. Who knows, maybe this new poster is just learning this puter stuff himself, just like so many of us on here, we didn't all grow up with a computer instead of a typewriter. As I said in my original post, an awful lot of the old guys have left this board and the attitude of some of our members are a big part of the reason. The worst part of it all though, is some of the guys around here who are always spouting the rules to newcomers have only been members themselves for a few months. Certainly a new guy shouldn't be coming on here and asking for hot spots in his 1st post, but just maybe, he's also new to computers or fishing and he also doesn't understand the way things are done, but that's no reason for some of the guys to make him look and feel like a total moron for a slip in protocol. And THAT'S the reason alot of guys no longer post here !!

Well said specktacklure !! This board used to be alot friendlier a few years back before someone came up with the idea that every new person who had something to ask, needed to write a whole friggen biography about himself before he could ask a simple question. Used to be a fellow could stop by and ask a simple question and everybody would step up and do what they could for him. Now if you don't tell everybody your whole life story your made to look like an idiot. No wonder so many of the old members have left with some of the attitudes around here lately

When everybody is praying for precititation for the north country, just be sure to make it only for long, extended summer rains and nothing too severe, as lightening is BY FAR the biggest cause of forest fires.

I use 2 deep cycles for my 12 volt trolling motor and have them permanentely hooked to 10 amp Guest 2611 on-board charger in the front of the boat. The 4 smaller leads coming from the bottom of the picture, 2 red / 2 black, are from the charger.......one set of red & black to each battery The leads at the top go to the troll motor...red to one battery positive terminal and the black to the other battery negative terminal. The heavy grey cables join it all together I also installed a 40 amp circuit breaker to the top left terminal Hope that offers you some help

Best of luck with the 1st episode Mike, I'm lookin forward to hearing how you make out

What's this, an election campaign by a new member ??
-
Pretty sure I read that Mr. Zurakowski died not too long ago, maybe within the last 2 years or so ??
-
Honestly Phil, I don't think you need to either apologize or explain your actions to this board. It's a personal decision and your entitled to do whatever the heck you like, and if you'd rather not wear a PFD, then your totally within your rights. Myself, I've worn a PFD exactly once in probably the last 20 years, but that's up to me. Maybe not the safest thing to do, but again a personal decision. I've shared my boat with about 60 different OFNers over the years and maybe 4 have worn a vest so it would seem that most don't use them either. To each their own

This is just a thought, but is there any chance the big lake freighter passed close-by coming from, or heading towards the cement plant in Picton Bay ?? I remember one night quite a few years ago, we were camped on Adolphus Reach and the ship was heading for the big lake and threw up such a huge bow wave that it tore my boat from the dock and shoved it right up on shore. That was about 10 PM but I don't know if it ever travels in the middle of the night.
-
It was mentioned last night on the Toronto news about the fires in the northern areas, hopefully you'll get some much needed rain soon.......without the lightning.
-
Good thing you were fishing outta the big boat Phil, those 8' waves can be pretty nasty. Looks like your efforts payed off though with a nice stringer of fish !!

I think I fried the impellor on my F90!
lew replied to lookinforwalleye's topic in General Discussion
My buddies got a 30 year old 9.9 Evinrude still running on the original impeller. Infact, he's never even changed the lower unit oil and sofar, so good. New plugs every few years and it's still running good, and he asks why I spend so much time and $$$$ maintaining mine......maybe he's right As for the muffs, I use them anytime I'm putzin around with the motor outta the water and I'd say anyone is lookin for BIG trouble firing up & running a dry, hot motor. -
Sounds like an excellent weekend even if the fish didn't want to co-operate too much David, but congrats to your Dad on his 1st ever rainbow. Maybe see you in Hay Bay on the long weekend, I'm still in the green Crestliner.

WOW. really sorry to hear about your bad luck !! I agree with GCD, that spot you marked inside the transom appears too high above the water to be causing the problem, and my 1st thought was the transducer on the outside of the transom at the bottom. There's gonna be at least 2 holes drilled for that and possibly 4 and if the installer forgot to caulk the holes before fastening it, it would allow alot of water to come in past the screws. Sure hope they get you fixed up fast so you don't miss out on too much of the season. Please keep us informed

Thanks Jen, it's good to finally have reports coming in from the big water. Seems like the fish are active and lots of bigguns being caught and it looks like it could be the start of another awesome year for Quinte. Congrats on your 1st ever pickeral, er, walleye, and it's a beaut to start off with too, guess you'll be framing that picture ?? Lotsa changes have taken place at Pickeral Park since we used to camp there waaaaaaaaay back in the day, infact we used to think the place was crowded if there were 3 other tents Maybe see you guys in 2 weeks ??
-
Great stuff Mike and really good to hear your weekend went so well !! I drove thru the Quinte area on Saturday and was thinking of you guys out there enjoying the beautiful weather. See you on the water in 2 weeks

I'm almost thinking it's overheating and that's what the warning buzzer is telling you. I've never had it happen on my 90 Merc, but I'm sure there's a section in my manual that states that if the engine gets too hot for whatever reason, the revs are automatically kept at the idle level to prevent any further damage. Hopefully it's nothing to serious
