No problem leaving it on the transom, but you need to make sure it's not tilted up and bouncing up and down, which is where the problems come from. As already mentioned, you can leave it down as long as it doesn't bounce around, or keep it up and use a transom saver to hold it firmly in place. If you leave it down though, just be sure to tilt it back up before you back into the water or your fish'n trip could get quite expensive

Nicely done by all that were involved !! And Spiel, awesome job as always on the rods !!!

It's OK Brian, Mondays can be tough sometimes

Aikmans knew exactly what the trouble was right away and a fast estimate says it'll cost at least $350 - $400 + to get it going again, as it seems like I fried a bunch of stuff in there. Paying that kinda money isn't worthwhile to fix up a 6 year old motor that didn't cost too much more than that new, so I'm off to buy a new motor tomorrow morning........probably start at BPS I think Misfish's idea of un-plugging the motor at night is a goodun. Oh well, the old motor was gettin all dusty anyways, so it's time for an upgrade Gotta look spiffy for those Lakair toothies next week

When I had a Lowrance LCX-17M I bought a 24 inch power cord extension for it but got rid of the unit before I used it and it won't fit my new GPS. I payed $30 for it, but it's free to a good home if you can use it. If you want it, PM me your address and I'll mail it out to you. It's 24" long with 5 pins...male & female and the conections are blue The part # is M-0036 It was for a black & white GPS/sonar combo but have no idea what other units it'll fit.

I've heard of some Bald Eagles being sighted in the Kawarthas in the last couple years but haven't been fortunate enough to spot any myself.....until a couple days ago. I spotted the bird sitting on top of a dead tree but just figured it was an Osprey, until I got close enough for a decent look.....absolutely gorgeous and majestic birds !!!!! The female was in another tree about 100 yards away. Unfortunately I couldn't get close enough for a close-up shot and my camera's only a 3-X Optic zoom but he shows up pretty good nontheless. I shoulda had DanC along with his photo skills Sitting on the tree Just after I took this picture he dropped down to the water and grabbed a fish. She's hard to spot, but you can see the female sitting on a branch, just slightly below, and to the right of center. I had my nephew in the boat....Eddyk's son....and he was able to land his 1st ever musky too. It was only a tiny fish but the 1st one is always very memorable and he was more than happy with it. All in all, a great day !!

Definetely go with the Princecraft Shelly, their excellent boats, and the Ficht is also a good choice for the engine. My buddy Jangers has a Princecraft / 115 Ficht combo and its been flawless since the 1st day he picked it up.

Thanks Art, that all makes sense and sounds feasible, I'll check into it tomorrow.

I'm actually fishing with Wayne on the 19th at Lakair Brian, but if this thing doesn't get fixed in time, I may just hafta invite myself along with him for the whole week, but like you say, there'll be room for all of us Hope you get yer own problems fixed up soon too. Misfish, as for my batteries, their fine now since they were charged last night, it's just that my motor was left running over night without being able to turn the prop, so I have no idea what damage I've done. ........jeez, it'll be a shame if I hafta buy a whole new troll motor hmmmmm, isn't Fathers Day comin up soon ??

Only 8 days till Lakair and I may be without my bowmount motor. I went out fishing yesterday and found both my deepcycles for the bowmount totally dead, something that's never happened before so I was totally lost as to why that would happen, as I keep them fully charged at all times. I use a MotorGuide E54 and on the side of the foot control there's a 3 position switch. The center position is for normal use, the rear position puts the motor on constant hi-speed and the front spot is to run the motor continuously without having to keep your foot on the control, which is nice is your moving along a weedline or something. When I was trying to figure out the problem I noticed the switch had been moved to the front position which keeps the motor running continuously, and then it came to me what I'd done. I always cover my boat at night when it's at the dock, and my cover goes over everything, including the troll motor, and it actually sits on the propeller. It looks like I covered the motor, then somehow kicked the switch into continuous run mode without realizing it while covering the rest of the boat, but the prop couldn't turn because it's locked under the cover and would be jammed in place. Both my batteries were fully charged the night before when this happened so it would take a long time for them to run down, yet all that time the motor was turned on and trying to spin the prop. I recharged the batteries last night for about 14 hours , then tried it this morning but there's a definate problem somewhere. It won't work at all in the normal position or the continuous run mode, but works fine in the hi-speed mode, so it looks like I haven't burned out the motor, but have probably done some serious damage to some of the electrics. What I don't understand though is why the circuit breaker didn't trip and shut the system down as I'm darned sure something musta been overheating Anyways, I brought it home with me and will call Aikmens in the morning. Hopefully he can fit me in this week and get it working again before I head back to the trailer on Friday, then onto Lakair early Tuesday morning. And here I thought I was in great shape for the summer.....last week I repacked the wheel bearings in the boat trailer, installed and painted new OEM fenders on the trailer, plus installed new lights all around it Dang........

I'm just heading out the door for the lake and probably won't be home till at least next Wednesday, so good luck to everyone this weekend, specially the musky guys who are just getting in their 1st trip of the year....me included....and everyone play safe on the water. And thanks again to everyone for all your kind words, flowers, PM's and e-mails over the past week, it made a very terrible time in my life just a little bit more bearable. See you all next week sometime.

That was a great read Verno, you should post you're fish'n tales more often.

I agree with you 100% Pete, but at least you get to yell at them face to face. Here in the Smoke, their all laying on the sidewalks reaching up for $$$$ so we have to bend way down to tell them to get off their lazy azz butts and earn their measly keep. The worst ones though, are the ones that sleep in the bus shelters, so when all the ladies are heading to work in the morning to earn some honest cash, they have to stand out in the cold & rain cause their too scared to stand in the shelter. Yup, it's gettin to be a huge problem everywhere. Hope your letter does some good !!

Hey Raf, I know a couple guys with the red model and their happy with them, and if your not interested in a really fast retrieve, the 4:1 may work OK for you, plus you'll have plenty of cranking power for the big deep divers.. With the huge spool, it picks up line in a hurry.
-
Have a great trip Pete and good luck down there !! What's with the new avatar, is that sposed to be a challenge for 3 weeks from now ??

You'll be extremely happy with that reel, dews !! I use the BG7000HS with a 5:3-1 ratio for my jerkbait rod and it's perfect for casting and retrieving large baits. It's effortless with the power handle, takes up the slack line very quick and you can burn the baits in unbelievably fast if you need the speed. It feels big and heavy compared to the 6000 series when you 1st start using it, but takes no time at all to get used to it, and it becomes very comfortable, and I can use mine all day with no problem. Good luck to you this year !!

Yup, that's exactly the same way I do it........

Thanks Mike, yes it does have WAAS , guess I'll just have to remember that's it's not always 100 % acccurate
