Here's a couple other ideas for larger baits that work well for me. I strung a piece of heavy wire across the very front of the boat and it makes an excellent place to hang my larger spinnerbaits that I use most often. They're right in front of me when I'm working the troll motor and I never have to go searching for anything. For the jerkbaits I use most often, I attached a piece of plexi-glass to the front of the consol, then another piece of heavy wire and it makes a perfect spot to hang them. Again, it's outta the way so I don't snag myself, but easily accessible when I need a change.
  5. I used to have a long shaft, 6 HP kicker that sat on the transom, and when I was trailering the boat, I'd lower the kicker all the way down, then use a rope to tie the bottom of the motor securely to the trailer so it couldn't move anywhere. I'd think that would also work in your situation as your just trying to prevent the motor from bouncing up & down and putting undue stress on the transom or trolling bracket ?? It's gonna be a pain in the butt if you have to keep taking the motor off and have to haul it around in the trunk along with everything else.

  7. I don't know what the percentages are, but a small number of anglers are certainly the ones that catch the vast majority of the biggest fish on a regular basis. We often hear about an inexperienced fisherman going down to a dock, or heading out randomley in a boat and catching a large fish, but if that big fish isn't sitting at the end of the dock, or under his boat, he doesn't know where else to go or what to look for to find that biggun. An experienced fisherman will understand the habits of the fish he's after and will have a plan in his head before he even leaves home in the morning. He'll know where the fish SHOULD be holding depending on the time of day, the weather and even the different seasons. It takes no skill at all to fluke into a big fish from a dock or find one sitting under your boat wherever you happen to drop the anchor, but it DOES take skill to know what to look for and where to go and find big fish consistentely, and that's where many fishermen fail, because they don't know what to do when plan "A" fails A small percentage definetely catch the most and biggest on a consistant basis.
  8. Nice job guys !! I spent alot of time with Rob at the Odyssee on Saturday and him & Chris really appreciate all the support they receive from this board.
  9. Me and the pooch often head to Ashbridges Bay in Toronto before sunrise just because it's such a beautiful place to be, specially in the early morning before most of the city wakes up. I took my camera this morning and got a couple pictures of the sun as it peeked over the horizon. I never could understand why folks want to sleep late in the mornings. The city seems so far away too when it's seen from the Bay. Nuthin special, but it's a nice way to start the day
  10. It's been about 35 years since we fished for smelts, but we did them just like the others suggested, gut them and remove the head, then fry in butter.......deeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious !!
  11. I already do that......it's called retirement.

Here's another idea for the plastic downspouts. If your like me and never keep fish, the livewell in your boat makes an excellent storage locker for hanging musky baits, and is where I keep about 60 bucktails.......used to be 80 but I thinned the herd abit. They're outta the way but easy to get at when you need something.
  17. All the best to ya Bud, hope it's a goodun !!
  18. Yup your right Mike, my mistake on the date, I thought opening weekend was the one before the long weekend, but it looks like someone slipped in an extra weekend when I wasn't lookin. We'll be there from the 18th till the 21st.

I built this one outta ¼" ply to hold my largest boo-tails. It's 13" x 13" x 24" and works perfectly, and the air holes are for drying the mariboo. I cut a couple 1 inch strips of ply, the length of the inside of the box, then drilled them and inserted ¼" steel rods the exact width, then fastened the strips near the top of the box to hang the baits on. A couple hinges and a clasp and your good to go. Total price of the box was less than the price of one boo-tail
  21. And it's even wet too, Roy
  22. Easton, we started camping at Pickeral Park in 1955 when it was basically just the backyard of the General Store, and we pitched our tents right on the beach. I don't think permanent trailer sights had even been invented yet That place sure has changed alot in the last 50 odd years and the original owner, Ernie Mepstead, has been gone about 30 years now. Maybe we'll see you on Hay Bay on the long weekend.
  23. Here's the same view Graham, cept it's taken at sunrise before the fleet headed out for the day. June 19th can't get here soon enuff !!
  24. Leave a few pickeral for us Duber, we'll all be down the following Friday for 4 days. We camp at Bass Cove Park on County Rd. 8 just north of Adolphustown.
