You may be able to get a kit from Mountain Equipment Co-Op in Toronto, and if not, they could probably tell you who'd have them. Their at King & Spadina......416-340-2667 www.mec.ca

Can't help you with the boat rentals Raf, but your staying in a beautiful, old hotel. Our wedding anniversary is Oct. 15th (42 wonderful years coming up ) and we always have our anniversay dinner there. Great hotel, fabulous view overlooking Stoney, and excellent food. Hope you have a great time there !!

It's only my opinion Cliff, but I'd be passing on a boat that's been patched up. Maybe it's fine, but I personally would be shopping around for something in better shape. I've always been in a fortunate position that my boats have always been new when purchased, so I've never had to worry about them, but I'd be pretty leary of buying a used, patched up, re-painted boat from a total stranger, when there are plenty of others available in much better shape. Just my thoughts........

I'm gonna agree with the majority on this one myself, and I also see nothing wrong with what Randy posted, and Terry said it perfectly. I've also had more than my share of heartache the last couple years, but it doesn't mean humour has to be cancelled because of it. With over 2000 members registered on this board now, it'd be impossible to keep track of all the sad news. Whenever one of us has tragedy in our families, the members of this board are always more than willing to try and share our sorrows and express condolances to each other when it counts the most. ........Just my dimes worth anyways.

That's some scary stuff Rick, and it's good to hear you were able to do the right thing and get away from that guy. Kudo's to the coppers too for doing such a great job, as they always do !! Now let's just hope the courts do their job

I have a similar problem with my Lowerance Globalmap 7200 Goran. I don't lose the signal totally, but I often lose it partially, and can only see parts of the map. It disappeares on it's own, or I can zoom in or out and fix it. I thought it unusual too, but asked the same question here a couple months back and was told by several members that it's a normal thing...... Basically just the processor trying to catch up to the unit. Funny thing though, I get the worst reception on Stoney Lake.......could it be something to do with all the granite ??

I was given the exact same information from the Canadian Coastguard.. According to them, it's perfectly legal to overpower your boat, but if it leads to an accident, your insurance company may not cover any of the costs.

Thanks Danbo, $300 is just about exactly the price range I'm looking at and Canon definetely has a good name. That'll be added to my list when the shopping excursion begins.

Sounds like these attacks are spreading across the province. http://www.torontosun.com/News/Columnists/...4542910-sun.php

Thanks for the info folks, that's very helpful and I'll use it when it comes time to make a decision on which camera to buy.

Sad news indeed Harry, and condolances from my family to yours. You've written some very nice words about your Dad and it sounds like he lived a full & rewarding life. Soldier, police officer, ironworker.....he was obviously a brave man and not afraid of a tough days work.

Awesome fish Ron, a real beaut !!
-
Thanks Raf, we were posting at the same time. Guess I'll start looking at some cameras with IS built into them.
-
Thanks Brandon, it's not an SLR, just a plain old point & shoot. It was about $350 when I bought it several years ago, but now it looks like I can get twice the camera for about 1/2 the price. It normally takes decent pictures and they only come out blurry the odd time when the camera is in the home made stand, so I'm just assuming it's caused by camera movement. Perhaps the auto focus isn't fast enuff to work properly when the camera is moving.

Great stuff GbG!! It's always good when the incidental catch is 4 times as big as the intended target
-
That's awesome Matt, congrats to your Dad, the 1st one is always the most memorable !! Orange & black for musky ????.....hmmmmm, musta been a fluke

I'm thinking of asking Santa for a new camera for Christmas and I see now where alot of them come with image stabilization, and am assuming that would help prevent blurred images if the camera is accidently moved while taking pictures ?? I fish alone quite often and use a homemade stand to hold the camera. It sits in the front seat post hole on the raised casting deck, but if I move around waiting for the 10 second timer, it causes the boat to rock, which then sways the camera and blurs the image. 99% of my pictures taken this way turn out very good, but every once in awhile a picture of a nice fish is ruined. I get my fish back in the water very quickly to avoid stressing them, so I normally only take one shot, then she's back in the drink where she belongs. My current camera is a Sony DSC-P72 which doesn't have Image Stabilization, plus it only has a tiny viewing window on the back. Often the picture looks good there and the problems aren't noticible till after I download them to the puter. Here's a picture that was ruined last week. It's been sharpened as much as possible but is still a very poor image. Will the stabilization feature help eliminate this problem ?? BTW, I'm not looking for camera recommendations just yet, but will be asking your opinions in the near future.

Doncha just hate when that happens Roy, darned cameras making big fish look like dinks ??
-
Actually JohnnyB, the musky fish'n has been excellent this year and we've boated many many fish, I think you've just been spending too much time chasing all them "other" fish I hope you hook a biggun before the season closes
-
Thanks everyone, good to hear you enjoyed the fish'n tale, it's always nice when a plan comes together. I seldom post fish'n reports anymore, but every now & then I like to add one to the mix. Weighted Suicks are an excellent bait Pete, and I've always got about a dozen in the boat, but in shallow weeds where these fish came from, a big spinnerbait is the best way to go. The fish are often sitting back in the heavy cover and it's the best way to get to them. Sinker, yes, alot of the fish are up very shallow most of the year, but especially after dark, infact we get ALOT of nice muskies in as little as 2' of water after dark. A favorite spot is anywhere with plenty of sand and some sparce weeds mixed in, and if you can find some scattered rocks or old submerged tree stumps, even better.
