Squid headed east on Sunday and then I left Toronto at 2:00 AM Monday morning to meet up with him for a couple days of musky fishing on the St. Lawrence River near the Quebec border. Mondays weather was nice for fishing with a strong westerly wind and we got a couple fish. Pete got the 1st musky around noon trolling a 14" black/silver Jake and then I got one just before sunset casting a bumble-bee Double "D" Both were released at boatside with no pics or measurment Tuesday was originally sposed to be a decent day too with a chance of rain but somehow the weather dudes missed that snowstorm for eastern Ontario until the last minute. We got up yesterday morning to heavy rain but now they were calling for 70K wind gusts and the rain changing to 30 cm of snow in our area starting in the early evening. Neither of us mind fishing in the snow and wind but didn't like the idea of a 500 km trip down the hiway thru a snowstorm, specially with Pete towing his big 19' boat, so we just fished till 1:00 0'clock yesterday afternoon and called it a day with no more fish. Funny how a 1000 km drive for 2 days of fishing never seems like a big deal Pete and I always have a great time fishing together and this trip was no different. We got out before the storm hit, although I did see some wet snow around the Kingston area, but the hi-lite of the drive was the .88 ¢ gas on the 401 around Brockville. It's been awhile since I bought 1/2 a tank of gas for only $28 Fun times and lotsa laffs Here's the only pic I took on the trip.......Pete casting at sunset.

Only us koolest of the kool kids wore the red soles John hahahaha

Congrats on the fish and good to hear your trip was a success. That's the 2nd report today about a fish coming on a 10" Firetiger bait. Happy now that I bought one yesterday

I was also a fan of the desert boots back in the day, they were incredibly comfortable. I've seen them in the stores recentely and have even thought about getting another pair for myself. When I was in the Navy in the 60's, I spent a year on a tanker that was loaded with Av-gas for the planes & bunker oil for the ships and it was mandatory that everyone involved wore desert boots at all times when we were transfering fuel from one ship to another as the crepe soles wouldn't spark on the steel decks and cause an explosion like the leather boots with the nailed on heels. And while were talking about shoes from the good ole days, let's not forget the white bucks from the 50's........now that was kool

Guess everyones heard by now that McSquinty is probably gonna introduce legislation on Tuesday to ban the use of cell phones in cars by drivers unless their a hands free model, but they were saying on the radio yesderday that the ban could also include the use of ALL electronics, including GPS units while driving. Figures they may ban GPS units just as I'm about to buy my 1st one, but I spose on the bright side, I may have just saved $300 Cell phones can definetely be a dangerous thing when someone is trying to dial a number while weaving in and outta traffic at 80 MPH, but I always thought a GPS could be a helpful tool when used properly and is certainly much safer than trying to read a map while it's draped over the steering wheel the way some do it Oh well, I spose the $300 will add a couple nice baits to the tackle box.....

WTG John & congrats, that's a couple real nice fish ya got there. I get alot of incidental pike with musky baits on GBay but never as big as that one.
-
I was at BPS this morning too Shaun, from 9:30 till 11:00, sorry I missed you. I just picked up one musky bait I needed for next week, plus I actually did buy a bag of candy from the rack near the checkout counter, so your calling BPS the candy store is pretty accurate

That's a nice rod danbo. I seldom fish for pickeral anymore, infact only a few days in the spring, so I sold off all my expensive Shimano V-Rods that were just collecting dust, but hung on to an old Series One that I kept for guests. Excellent rods for the $$$$

Wish we'd had some bananas on GBay yesterday Will, at least then I'd have a good excuse for the way our day went

Should be fun lookin for muskies on the St. Lawrence River next Monday & Tuesday Maybe we better attach some bells to our baits........

Otonabee River - To Be or Not To Be? This is the question
lew replied to Arnaldo de Sousa's topic in General Discussion
When your on the 115 hwy just west of the Otonabee River you'll see Airport Rd. Go south from 115 (only about 200' or so) to the very 1st road and immediately turn east and follow that road all the way to the river and you'll see a gate leading into a marina. I can't remember the name but they have boat ramp into the river and you've got complete access to the entire river from Peterboro all the way down to Rice Lake. I haven't been there in a few years and they may not even be open this time of year but perhaps someone will read this and remember the name of the place. Pretty sure it was also an ESSO gas dealer too -
I'm also a Compre fan and much prefer them over the St. Croix musky rods, infact I've sold off most of my St. Croix's and am gradually replacing them all with Compres.

Walleyes are coming in to Quinte in huge numbers.
lew replied to DT10Sam's topic in General Discussion
Good to have you back Sam and as usual, all the fall Quinte guys will appreciate your reports and lure advice. Nice fish !! Small guy, eh ?? -
I agree Steve, I bought a sonar from RadioWorld last year and was very happy with both the service & price of the unit, so that's probably where I'm gonna go.

Thanks for all your suggestions folks and seeing as Garmin is the choice of most here, I'm gonna go that route myself and right now it's probably gonna be either the nuvi 260W or the 265WT even though they're a bit pricier than what I was originally thinking of. I find it interesting though that for marine electronics, most folks, including myself, seem to prefer Lowrance units, yet for cars most seem to lean towards the Garmin products. Interesting stuff .......

Good to hear your healing up OK Glen and you made some good points here too about taking care of wounds. If I could add one more suggestion......... A few years back myself & musky-man were fishing and I caught a musky, but when I picked her up outta the water, she turned on me and slashed the base of my thumb wide open. Not sure if it was her teeth or the hook but she made a real mess of me. It was early in the morning and even though I needed medical attention I didn't want to ruin a days fishing, so we wrapped it up as best as we could and continued fish for the rest of the day. It was still bleeding 12 hours later so I went into Peterboro hospital where the doctor had to put 8 stitches in my thumb to fix it up. He told me I was stupid for letting it go that long cause lake water is filthy and full of every kind of bacteria imaginable, not to mention all the gas and oil that was floating around. He said that getting lake water in a bad cut was very serious and it should be taken care of immediately and had I waited another 12 hours I would have probably been in very serious trouble. If you get cut or stuck, get it fixed. ......... I'm also happy to say that fish swam away heathy and strong, although I'm sure I heard her laffing at my misfortune as she headed back to the deep water

uggg who ordered all this white crap outside already

I'll be lookin for GBay muskies on Thursday, could someone please shovel off the boat ramp -
Thanks for all the suggestions boys, it would seem Garmin has the majority vote around here so that's where I'll probably go too. I always prefer to buy new Rob but thanks for the suggestion. I actually saw some refurbished models on one of the websites but they only offer a 30 day warranty where the new units come with a full year. I think if Fantino wanted to impound cars because they have GPS screens visible to the drivers, he'd have to start with his own police cars with the computers & screens right beside the driver, wouldn't he ?? Like anything else, I think GPS units are excellent devices for drivers as long as their used with a bit of thought behind their use, and not having drivers punching in addresses while their doing 140 down the hiway.
