Baitcasters are better for tossing & retrieving heavier lines & lures. Shimano is my preferred choice but others will disagree. Whatever you decide on, don't buy cheap.

What method you you use to prevent rod tip icing?
lew replied to wuchikubo's topic in General Discussion
I've tried a few of the different pastes, and even PAM spray, but have always found them so greasy it's more trouble than it's worth and find it's easier to just keep breaking the ice away by hand. Maybe what we need is electrically charged fish'n poles for cold weather -
Don't worry about that Dave, we've never left anyone stranded at the ramp yet. It appears we've got a few members who want to join us but don't have boats, so if anyone has room for a passenger, it would be great.

Sounds good to me Dave....as long as the gifts keep coming for a week Thanks again everyone !!

Boatland Canada on the 115 used to have about the cheapest prices anywhere, so when I was looking to buy my motor, I shopped all over 1st and got the best price, then called Boatland last and gave him the lowest price I'd received and he instantely knocked another $400 off that price. Unfortunately, his customer service took a nosedive a few years back and alot of guys turned against them, but I don't know how things are there now. Might be worth a try Paul, but it's only a suggestion.

Howdy folks About 6 weeks ago I posted a message about our annual OFC musky G2G on the Upper Niagara River and alot of you showed an interest in joining us. This will be the 4th year for it and hopefully we can get a good turnout. It's gonna be on Saturday, December 13th We normally launch at the Niagara Parks Marina but it's evidentely not open any more in the winter months so were gonna go just a bit further east and use the ramp at Frenchmens Creek. It's not as good a ramp but we've used it before when the marina was frozen over and it's worked out just fine. We'll launch at 8:00 AM and then all meet up back at the ramp at 4:00 PM and that'll give everyone a chance to load their boats before it gets dark. We'll then head to a restaurant for supper and tell tales of the bigguns that got away. The place we normally go for dinner is out of business now, but jwl lives in Fort Erie and has graciously offered to pick a local restaurant for us, but we'll wait for awhile until we see how many are coming. Directions........ Take the QEW past Niagara Falls quite a ways towards Fort Erie and watch for Netherby Rd. Take the Netherby cutoff and go to the 1st stop sign and turn LEFT and go over the QEW and follow Netherby for about 1 mile until you come to the end of the road where you'll be facing the Niagara River. Turn RIGHT and follow the river road for several miles and you'll see the big marina, then continue for a few minutes till you see the parking lot and boat ramp on your left at Fenchmans Creek. We'll be in Squids big green / tan LUND http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&q=net...=1&ct=image We always have a great day and the more the merrier, so hopefully we'll have a good turnout from those of you who have never joined us before. It'll be a good idea for everyone to bring a shovel and sand cause it'll probably be pretty cold and the ramp gets ice covered very fast. Please post you name here if your gonna join us so we'll know what to do for supper. Roy, could you please pin this for us ??..........thanks

I've had enough winter all ready, bring on April

I like the green rubber Kamiks from Crappie Tire. 100% waterproof, very warm with the felt liners, light and comfortable to walk in. About $40 if I remember correctly

I use Lowrance also, but prefer to use 2 seperate units rather than a single one with a split screen, but that's just my personal choice. I went with the X510c for the sonar and the Globalmap 7200 for GPS and found them both to be excellent machines and very easy to use. I use an old black/white Humminbird on the bow and it serves the purpose up there. You'll find good & bad with them all I spose, so you just have to wade thru them all till you find something that suits your needs. What I find interesting though, is most folks seem to prefer Lowrance for their boats, but when I was looking for some info a few weeks back for a GPS for my truck, the vast majority of folks on this board prefer Garmin. Here's my current set-up

Thanks for that Wayne, best fish'n tale I've read in awhile. -
Peter, as you know, I lost my only son in a construction accident a couple years back when he was 37 years old and I would do absolutely anything in this world to have him back, but unfortunately that's never gonna happen. I'm no psychiatrist, but I'm an expert on how it feels for a dad to lose his son. Your son has made a decision in his life that you may not be happy with, or even condone, but there's no way your gonna change the way he is and if you push it too hard, you may drive him away permanentely and never get him back. Accept him for what he is, set the guidelines you feel are acceptable, but love him for being your son and don't let go of that. Best of luck to the pair of you. I never had a choice in losing my son forever, but you do.....

Perhaps it's time to change tactics & try something different

A true Quinte hog Paul, congrats !!
-
Roger, did you launch at the marina where we always go , and if so, did you see any signs indicating the ramp will be closed in December for the g2g ??
-
Well done, you boated a few real nice fish there, specially #4
-
Just a heads up Dave seeing as your not familiar with the river. If you use that ramp I mentioned, you'll be quite aways above the Falls but there'll still be a bit of a current, but if you head towards Lake Erie, the current gets stronger the closer you get and when you pass under the Peace Bridge it can get very strong at times, although you won't have a problem in your boat. We were in an 18' walleye boat a couple years back when the water boiled up under us near the railway bridge and spun us 180 degrees.....made for an interesting few moments

Dave, take the QEW past Niagara Falls towards Fort Erie and watch for Netherby Rd as you get close to town. Take the cutoff and turn left at the stop sign and go over the QEW for about 1 mile and you'll come to the river. Turn right and follow the river several miles towards Fort Erie and you'll come to a marina with a good concrete ramp. There's a possibility it may be closed for the season and if so, just continue for another short distance and you'll come to another ramp at Frenchmens Creek. Not as good, but definetely OK. Don't forget the musky gtg on December 13th, hope you can join us.

Incredible weekend Shawn, congrats, but with the time and effort you put into Quinte you deserve all the good fortune that comes your way.

I drove the Windsor-Toronto corridor yesterday and saw enough white stuff to convince me that winter will soon be here, so my 4 snow tires are going on the truck this morning.

Thanks for the update Roger & good to hear there's a few young ones swimming around. See you in a few weeks
