  1. A great learning experience for you Mike and sounds like you really enjoyed it too. JP's a good guy and used to post here alot but I haven't seen him around in a long time.
  2. Don't be afraid of large reels guys, they really aren't a problem. I use a 7000 Abu for large jerkbaits and Double 10"s and I can cast that thing all day long and I don't have big hands.
  3. I'm still wondering why anybody is concerned about how many replies their post gets. Put up a post and if it gets a bunch of replies that's good, but if it doesn't get a bunch, well then so be it and move on.
  4. Sounds good RG
  5. I'll always recommend the TE for casting, it's a fantastic reel. For trolling reels though, I prefer Tekotas
  6. Make it August RG and we can finally fish together. We're back up again August 4-18
  7. Nice work Simon, it's always a good day when we can help somebody out of a jam.
  8. Don't feel bad Billy, I can't figure that multi-quote thingy either. I think we're too old for these fancy new gizmo's
  9. Congrats to your son Billy, it's always good when the kids make us proud.
  10. About 15 years ago I was lipping a bass and as I grabbed him, he jumped and buried the hook in my finger. Luckily when I lifted him into the boat he came off so at least that was one thing I didn't have to worry about. I tried to remove it but it was buried too deep so I just cut the shank and headed back to shore then into the local clinic in Lakefield. As I walked in I was met by a doctor who looked at my finger and took me into his office to extract it. He said it was my lucky day as this was his 1st day in his new practice and I was his 1st ever patient. He said seeing as it was only a bass hook he'd just yank it out and I wouldn't need any freezing. I told him if he ever expected to meet the 2nd patient of his career he'd better freeze my finger and freeze it good We both had a good laff and he froze it and removed it. Always amazed me how something so small could hurt so much
  11. That'd be great Paul, we'll be in the cabin right at the end of the boat ramp.
  12. There's a Yamaha dealer on Woodbine Ave, just north of LeBarons, a couple blocks above #7
  13. Not this weekend Paul, but the Mrs. and I are heading up June 16-23
  14. It's been my experience over many years that one of the best times for a musky is in the 1st few minutes after the sun breaks over the horizon and that sudden burst of bright light hits the water. It's just like a trigger for the fish, but obviously you have to be on a prime spot when it happens. Same principle as when the sun dips below the horizon in the evening and those 1st few minutes with the sudden change.
  15. I just spoke with Shimano customer service and the fella I was talking to said he's heard nothing about the TE being discontinued. He said though, even if it was, parts would still be available for at least 5 years.
  16. OK Dax, maybe see you if I get that far west.
  17. You still driving the white LUND Dax ??
  18. If it takes someone 1000 casts to catch a musky, they need to either change locations or take up bowling.
  19. My daughter and I will be fishing Upper Buck and maybe Pigeon too. Good luck to everyone.
  20. Me thinks Ralphie is gonna be one spoiled pooch
  21. Really surprised to hear that Steve, the TE is by far the sweetest musky reel I've ever used. Hopefully they'll come out with something as good if the story is true.
  22. Back when I used to do some bass fishing I tried Fireline on one of my baitcasters and found it would break very easily. Can't remember now what test I was using but whatever it was it didn't stand up the way it should have. I only used it for maybe a month or so then discarded it and went back to Power Pro. That's a few years ago now and I'm sure things have improved since then, but I never gave it a 2nd chance.
  23. My dad introduced me to fishing waaaaay back around 1950 and I've been an avid angler ever since. Infact everyone in my family were anglers and we always had boats my entire life and I couldn't even to begin to know how many fishing trips we took. Thing is though, taking pictures of fish was never a priority and was only reserved for an exceptional fish. I fished Quinte for decades but don't think I ever took a picture of a pickeral. I joined this board about 10 years ago and noticed how everyone was interested in pictures so I posted the few I had of muskies. After that I got a 1/2 decent camera and started taking pictures to post and continued like that for a few years. Thing is though, one fish looks just like all the rest and again I lost interest in taking them and only took the odd pic of a bigger fish. I took some pics last year of a couple decent muskies I caught on Nip and posted them for my 1st fishing report in about 3 years. I still fish lots although not as much as a few years ago, but taking pictures is low on my to-do list. I'm sure many guys who have been fishing as long as me feel the same and perhaps that's why you don't always see alot of pictures from some members.
  24. Good job on the cleanup Dutch and thanks, I'm only a couple miles from there & travel that road regularly. But isn't it sad that we actually have to clean up after some of the filthy pigs we're forced to share this planet with. I never could understand how anyone could throw their garbage anywhere but in a garbage can.
  25. Atta boy Mike & well done !!
