  1. That helicopter crew did an outstanding job and it's good to know guys like that are around when and if we need them.
  2. And my boat still has the scars to prove it
  3. It wasn't that many years ago Mike that you called me at Lakair to tell me you just caught your 1st ever 50"er. You've come along ways since then my friend...great year for you !!
  4. My wifes been baking cookies for the last few weeks and has done probably a couple hundred. Trouble is she gives them all away to friends and neighbors and I basically get the leftover crumbs
  5. And I've also commented on how lazy some private sector workers are. I'm done with this.
  6. 10 KW permanent stand-by generator wired directly into the house that'll run everything I need, 1500 litre propane tank, propane stove for cooking, propane furnace, air tight wood stove downstairs in the family room with 3 cords of wood to feed it, propane fireplace in the living room and enough vittles to last till springtime. Also a well tuned snowblower with 5 gallons of gas. I'm all set for whatever Mother Natures throws at us.
  7. I spose fishermen never have car accidents cause reading the posts around here everyone seems to be an expert driver.
  8. That would have been my brother...for nearly 30 years. Would have liked to have been there when someone told him he was under worked and over payed.
  9. Good to hear he was rescued Rob, that's a bad spot to be trapped. Is there a link to the story anywhere ??
  10. I had a reply for you Pete, but figured it's not worth wasting my breath.
  11. There's thousands of fantastic cops all across this county that do an amazing job of keeping things safe for us and we never hear a word about them. But when one goes bad, it's all anyone talks about.
  12. There's hundreds of homeless people living on the streets of Toronto, just like any other large city, and when temperatures drop below a certain level a "cold weather alert" is issued. Lots of good people, many volunteers, work very hard all night long to help those less fortunate and an "alert" is just a way of letting everyone know that the temperatures will be even more dangerous for those living outdoors and to try and get as many as possible inside a warm building. Nothing more, nothing less. When it gets very hot in the summer, "cooling centres" are are opened in Toronto to give folks a place to rest, cool off and have a cold drink. When Toronto does something wrong, everybody is quick to jump all over them, then when they do something good, people still jump all over them. Pretty sad actually.
  13. I worked for a municipal government as did my brother and then my wife, my mother & my father all worked for the Provincial government. We all worked hard and nobody was overpaid. I hate when all government employees are covered with the same blanket.
  14. I agree with you 100% Cliff, things sure aren't like they used to be around here, and that's a sad thing.

    OOPS !!

My wife and I have a big Christmas party here at the house every year with a bunch of friends, family and neighbors and tonights the night with 35 people expected. Last night we were just sitting here about 7:00 doing nothing and there's a knock at the door, so Diane answers it and there's a couple from down the road standing there dressed to the nines. Diane says, "oh, you guys are early" and he says "why, weren't we sposed to be here for 7:00 o'clock ??" Diane says, yeah, 7:00 TOMORROW NIGHT He says "well that explains why there aren't any cars in your driveway" We all had a good laugh and they came in for a couple drinks anyways. Always good when we can laugh at ourselves
  17. Yes I do see that white box the odd time Davey, but not just with Brians posts as I see it on others too.
  18. Everythings good here with Chrome Brian
  19. 20. After seeing that Dave, the 7" of snow we got last night doesn't seem so bad
  21. I paid $25 for a pair of socks at Lebarons, took them home, tried them on and found they were faulty. I took them right back to the store the same day, explained they were faulty and the manager told me no refund because I'd worn them. I explained they were only worn for 1 minute till I found they were no good and just wanted to exchange them for another pair. Sorry, no exchange for you...store policy. THAT'S why I didn't mind paying $5 for a MEC membership.
  22. Very generous offer but I think I'll hafta pass on it
  23. But try and return an item to Lebarons. Unless things have changed in the last few years, Lebaron used to be terrible to deal with, whereas MEC goes out of their way to treat their customers well. MEC over Lebaron for me anytime
  24. When I lived in Toronto I received an insane amount of flyers and unwanted junk mail on a daily basis, but now that I'm in the country and no longer get home delivery I receive absolutely ZERO junk mail and that in itself is worth the drive to the mail box. Heck, I don't even see Jehovah Witness at the door anymore but I don't spose the Post Office can take credit for that.
