Fortino's in Hamilton sells them during the Fall and Christmas Loonie. Just cut a slit in each and bake in the oven. 400F for about 30 minutes if I remember, been a while. I like the smell more than the taste. Just keep taste testing them. I don't know where you can get those little paper bags they had them in outside Maple Leaf Gardens.

Very sad indeed! I think the problem with the kids of today is they are brought up not having to be accountable for their actions. Oh so true Cliff, so true. I take it you mean "teens" Albert. Our kids don't know how far out on a limb they can climb because they were never allowed to climb a tree in the 1st place. They grew up in the Bernardo era and weren't allowed to leave the house unsupervised by an adult let alone play outside alone. We walked to school alone at 5 years old. If a 5 year old is found outside alone today the Police would be called. It is amazing what little our youth know today about every day life. My 34 year old niece with 2 babies never learned to ride a bike. My former sis in law said it was too dangerous, come on man!! She never learned to drive a car as well. I'm no phycologist but don't have to be to know why not.

I'm sure most everyone is aware of this dreadful tragedy that occurred this past Monday behind Sir Winston Churchill Secondary in Hamilton's East End's Parkdale neighborhood. A 14 year old and a 18 year old youth have been charged with 1st degree murder of 14 year old student Devan Bracci-Selvey. Police confirm after early investigation the motive is most likely bullying., it's far too early to confirm that. Devan's poor Mom witnessed this brutal murder. Devan had called her after lunch to come and get him as he was being intimidated once more by a group of youths that had attempted to steal his bike earlier in the school year. This was reported to both the Vice-Principal as well as the Principle of the school early in Sept. I have contemplated posting this since early in the week. I am because this could be any of our children or Grand Children. I grew up not far from Parkdale where we swam in the only east end pool we had and played shinny on the only outdoor rink we had in Parkdale Park in Winter. Many of my friends as early as kindergarten attended SWC when I attended Glendale secondary not far away starting in 68'. As early as the late 50's Parkdale was notorious for it's infamous local street gang "The Parkdale Gang." Then latter known as "The Mini Mobbers." that were made up of the younger brothers, friends and Family of the original members. In Parkdale members were predominantly made up of white Anglo Saxons. A working class section of the city where most Dad's and some Mom's worked in the heavy industry of the North End that made Hamilton. Of course the North End had it's own groups of youths, a group who was mostly 1st generation Canadians of European and predominantly of Italian decent. This was and still is a tougher part of Hamilton. In the 60's many lived in what we called "War time homes." Low income housing then later low income hi-rises in Parkdale. Nothing different than many parts of Hamilton and cities and towns across Canada. There were territorial disputes that were often settled in the "Park" as it was and still is known. What I am rambling on about is the difference between the 3 generations of Hamilton youth. We settled disputes with hands and fist. I knew of not one single person ever being shot over any dispute let alone stabbed in the 60's and 70's , and there were many. Gun play started in the early 80's and it only took 1 or 2 murders and the gangs basically dissolved. Most original members went on to become contributing members of our civil society, great Family men that are good loving Grand Fathers today, many are my friends that once were enemies. Some went into a life of crime to this day, not even a hand full. Many didn't make it to their 40th birthday for many reasons including drug and alcohol abuse and addiction, early death due to poor health as well as suicide. What I am terribly trying to say is this teen "bullying" is nothing new. I don't know if those charged are members of a local street gang, I would bet the farm they indeed are. I pray that this heinous murder may stop the cycle of violence in Parkdale and Hamilton as it was stymied in the 80's. I had to say something. Johnny D.

Got us beat fratello mio. We are having the usual suspects Monday, 12 adults and 2 babies. It will be the 1st Thanksgiving without Mom and Dad. We lost them both within this past year. Life goes on. Our very close friends welcomed 2 little ones via their daughters since last Thanksgiving. Oh, I will be eligible for Old Age Security on Monday too and our niece and nephews 8th anniversary is Monday so we have some thanking to do. 4 for 1 special !!!!! Happy Thanksgiving from us here on Lake Erie to all of our OFC friends and Families.

2019-2020 Hockey Thread

The last fight in the video above was a not too bad of a Hockey fight like I remember. The 1st few not so much a fight as a poor attempt at Jiu Jitsu. -
I think my Doc has prescribed all 4 for me. My wife walks the lakeshore daily. 2 years ago she found a Tick on her abdomen just about burying itself. Removed with tweezers and took it to the Doc's. Doc prescribed something in case, I think. Now she stays as far away as the ditches she can safely walk and checks every time, none since. Maybe she's stealing my K9 Advantix!

Grandson joining Dad and Grandpa fishing

Depending on how young a bucket full of minnows will keep their attention for hours. Always great for a slow day. There is nothing worse to spoil a fishing trip as great expectations. If they are young teens well good luck. I fished until I was around 12 then nothing until I was in my mid 20's. Sports and most importantly, girls, girls, girls. -

Come to think of it I counted for 1/2 hour. There is a great movie on right now on Turner Classic Movie channel. Invasion of Astro-Monster. (1965) A Japanese production in Technicolor. An astronaut goes to Planet-X to fetch Rodan and Godzilla that Earth lent to aliens supposedly in distress. The dubbing in English is the best. -
So you don't have to throw 3 pound bricks to catch a big Musky. They like to snack just like us.

I wonder how many that Wick guy has killed on screen? I'm sure someone out in internet land has counted. There's a Google question you don't hear everyday. The girl in the last flic killed her share of villains. -

I watched John Wick latest killer flic last week. I actually wrote down how many he killed in the 1st 30 minutes. He killed 13, he got stabbed in the neck and took a blade to his liver, got hit by the same Caddy twice then shot his Doc to make it look good as he wasn't to receive any help. -
Good to know. Thanks. It's strange how so many people can have different opinions. We regularly go to Jamaica every 5 years or so for the last 30, I don't go off the resort much other than to golf and visit Dunn's River Falls. I have always felt safe there but wouldn't go to Mo Bay or Kingston alone for any reason.

Is this the 1 year anniversary big guy. Our thoughts are with you. They say time heals all wounds, but the scars stay forever.

Tell bro his posture is all wrong. I would be checking more than my appendages, my Depends perhaps.

Yea, go to Cuba. I wouldn't go to Mexico today if you paid me. But I hope you have a great time. Don't go off the reservation alone. edit. There was a time when a family member had a condo in Acapulco and we went up to 3 times a year for 20 years. I just Googled crime in Cozumel. I don't want to paint the entire country with the same brush. It does have a very low crime rate. Have fun. You had better buy her something to give her there during an expensive dinner besides a boarding pass. I might not know where to go fishing but after more than 60 years of wooing them I know a bit, no one knows everything, about women they love shinny little trinkets.

Art, not many branches in that red necks family tree.

If I have learned anything about nature is don't put your hand in anything you don't know what is in there. Worse is putting your hand somewhere you know might hold a freekin 25 pound Snapping Turtle, or a 25 pound Catfish, or anything not naturally found in downtown Hamilton. That's just looking for it. I learned a long time ago DO NOT look for lost golf balls in, near or some God awful Jungle type fauna. I happened across a nest of baby Rattle Snakes in a Myrtle Beach sand trap looking for a 50 cent golf ball. Moma was none too happy. My pals didn't think I could still move that fast. Buddy once nearly stepped on a 12 foot Gadder looking for his ball in FLA, never again. I once put one of those little lizards in the glove box in Fla. and asked the same pal to hand me a Kleenex. He screamed like a 12 year old little girl at a Beatle concert.

I've only caught 3 in my entire life. Only targeted them one on the West Arm of Nippising and got 2 that day. The question I have is do they stress greater than any other large fish i.e. Northern's, Salmon or 30 plus inch Walleye? Whether or not they hold elite status over any other freshwater fish is a discussion for another day.

Someone here said it best. Why are we debating and discussing a tragedy for 3 pages and counting and nothing is mentioned of other deaths equaling as tragic of non celebs at all. Like The Stoney Lake boating related death. Last week a middle aged woman was found drowned not far from us. The sis in law of a guy we know. Her husband, our friends brother, upon learning of her death drove to Niagara Falls and hurled himself over the Horse Shoe falls. Any less of a tragedy, I think not.

Yep Terry you are correct. I didn't know there was going to be a test I would have studied. My recollection skills are diminishing each and every day. It sucks. I need to write myself a note for anything I am planning on doing, then a note to tell me where in Hell I put the 1st note. I kid you not.
