  1. I searched Hamilton and area for carpeting to cover my trailer bunks a few years back, I found the best and least expensive materials at the carpet store, sorry no recall right now, between Mt. Hope and Caledonia on Hwy 6 next door to Applegate and James furniture store. Very tight durable waterproof, 3rd year like brand new. About $50.00 maybe, for my 19' boat trailer complete.
  2. I hope you don't hire the same contractors.
  3. No action at PT. Dover yet. Especially since no one's fishing.
  4. Windshield wipers x3. I have yet to find a boat were the top of the windshield is higher than my head and I'm not 6' tall. Those little windshields on side counsels are a complete joke. I guess they keep your hands dry.
  5. I wouldn't be so sure, they are sneaky smart that way. Forgot the newbie weather joke, still funny after all these years. Rain, wind and hail here yesterday, was looking in the yard and the water was up to the wheel hub on my boat trailer. I wish I could post a pic here, I'm computer useless. Then I was looking out the back later and saw an old guy in a long wooden boat float by, there was the head of a giraffe sticking out the top.
  6. Talked to Sherri Dunn from the CYO today. They need anything that they think the kids can use, and they can use it badly. Any sporting equipment, anything. I will be dropping some stuff off asap. Including some baseball equipment that has been laying around for 20 years. I don't think I can make it to 1st anymore. I challenge all the good folks from the Hammer to do the same. They are at the Binbrook Conservation Authority Lake Niapenco. At Nebo and Chippewa. Number is 905-528-0011 ex. 2234 Monday to Friday. Thanks all Johnny D
  7. Hey watch it son, that's my future ex wife your talking about. Just kidding, take a look at the gunnels on that boat!
  8. Dave, Good to know thanks, Mt. Hope is very close, and the CYO helped a misguided youth from the east end years ago. I will give her a call. Hope to see you on the 20th. Rich, Good on you too my man. If everyone picked a local charity or even school to donate to locally I think we would be helping a new generation of fishing fanatics. Shouldn't you be out fishing, I know a bit of rain isn't going to stop you.
  9. I just read a post where a new member was looking for an inexpensive baitcaster combo and was looking for some advice. Angler Management and Danbob generously offered him a rod and reel, and he graciously accepted. I think that's fantastic. Just yesterday my wife asked if I was ever going to use the dozens of rods and reels I have. And I know I have a pittance of tackle compared to some of that my fishing buddies have. One pal is a tradesman always waiting for the call from the hall to come in and it's tough. He has plastic totes full of everything ,and I mean everything. His basement has every wall covered in rods and reels. I suggested he get a table at the Hamilton swap meet and sell some of it this month and he actually was shocked, you would think I suggested he sell his youngest grand child. I don't have a boat load of rods and reels, line, lures, weights etc. but could lose some that I know I will never use, even though it may be hard to do. Usually it's the hard stuff we do that pays off the most. My question is this, do we have a connection to a youth group or the such that we can as a group contribute fishing equipment to? If we don't we should. Does everyone think I'm nuts like my pal in Hamilton thinks I am to even suggest getting rid of some rigs? I know most everyone here has some and can afford it.
  10. To answer your question angler I think folks starting out are wary sinking $$$ into something they might not use, as well as, and with todays economy is very important is budget. The poster might be a high school kid without the means, I said might. Yes I'd rather someone get into a good baitcaster now rather than get frustrated trying to toss a small jig on it and quit. And you offering your Abu Garcia is absolutely fantastic. Way to go man. Very generous of you, in fact I'm going to start a new thread on donations of equipment to kids. EDIT/ I posted after the first page by mistake and see Danbob has contributed as well. Fantastic you two.
  11. Maybe that's why I never got into rainbow and steelhead fishing, I would never be able to afford all those rods. And I never knew the difference between rainbow and steelhead, very confusing for a simple walleye and bass guy. Besides I don't want to walk 10 miles chasing a fish down a river, hard to do with a cast on your leg!
  12. I thought it was 2 lines per angler trolling only, not still fishing, drifting. Am I wrong? I need to look at regs closer.
  13. Your in the right place. Ask away. Many here more than happy to help. And don't forget everything on the internet is true, especially here where everyone is a fisherman. Welcome aboard.
  14. Tb, For any used boat I always do a leak test. Put a hose into the bilge and turn it on with the float disconnected if there is one. Look below, most all used aluminum boats leak a touch but I still check. I was looking at a 2002 Lund a few years back and the Marina was asking big bucks, the boat looked mint. They were more then happy to let me do that. He was honestly shocked when the thing had a crack stem to stern and port to starboard. They took it in on a trade, they were pissed. It cost them 4K to repair, something like more than 50 labour hours, would have cost me double most likely. if you can get it for $1000.00 I probably would if I could put in the sweat equity. The rotten subfloor isn't much to get back to solid depending on your diy skills. Everybody says the trailers are worth xyz$, usually not, not much of a market for larger boat trailers without the boat. Smaller trailers yes.
  15. Is it only the great lakes for 2 lines trolling? Florida you can fish 2 lines off a pier. Saw a fellow Canuck pack up and forget his second setup, yes we told him.
  16. Any reason why? Actually I was under the impression that lead shot was not sold any longer in Ontario, am I off base here? I do know that harder steel shot are a pain to stay tight on the line. Liquid plumber? I've always taken care where smell and taste are concerned in a presentation. A dab from a black Sharpie is what I use. Once caught a blue gill that held onto a split shot right to the shoreline.
  17. Crappie, Where exactly? We had ice out here in February, boats were in Long Point Bay last month, saw freighters on the move March 15.
  18. Would a long steelhead rod be referred to as a " noodle rod? " I don't rainbow or steelhead fish but I remember the crew talking about noodle rods, if it's not a noodle rod exactly what is a noodle rod?
  19. 6' Shimano Aero ultra light combo is my panfish setup.
  20. Toucoda hit the nail on the head, it's not the fish catchin' it's the fishin' In 2010 when I upsized the boat was able to get out to 7 mile reef here where the big girls hang out. Entered the 3 week Walleye tourney here and boated trophy bass for 2 weeks. Then entered the 1 day Bass tourney and you guessed it, 10lb, 7oz walley........ The rest aren't memorable except the fun, which is priceless.
  21. I'm so sorry for you Dan. Not much more can be said, stay strong brother and pass on our condolences from the OFC family.
  22. Those are some beauties. Doesn't anyone hear the train coming? Greg I have PM'd you concerning a charter.
  23. I've had the same problem and it was as simple as a bad connection between the truck and trailer male, female connection. Cleaned it well and was good to go.
  24. For value and versatility I swear by Shimano anything. Bought a 6 foot Shimano spinning rod for my wife 22 years ago for around 30 bucks and have used it for anything from dink perch to a 25lb Bat Stingray in Florida. Still use it after 6 replaced eyes on the tip, will cry if I lose or destroy it. Have used a Shimano Caraddo (sic) baitcaster for casting and trolling since the early 80's, still use it. Quantum is a good quality rod for my money as well I was ecstatic when invisible fluorocarbons first came out. I fish 99% of the time on crystal clear waters of lake Erie. Have done some non scientific tests and have seen fish shy away from "invisible" monos but gone right for the fluorocarbons with the exact same presentation a few feet away, time after time. Use fluorocarbon leaders on all my braids using the smallest ball barrelswivels I can get away with to marry 2 lines together. Going to go with Mustad high speed chain swivel size 10 this year. Hope they will wrap onto the reel well, might not, we'll see. I really think 4 good set ups is a great way to go, and you will get as many opinions as product available., just like vehicles I wouldn't be caught dead in a F150 unless the other guy is paying for gas. If I don't have confidence in a very expensive set up I don't use it and vice-versa. Many years ago I knew a guy from Mt. Hope that was starting to make up custom rods for the guys down at the plant. He said then it doesn't make a difference if you spend $50.00 or $500.00 on a rod use the rod you have confidence in. His last name was Loomis and his first name started with a G. Again welcome aboard........................
