  1. Twocoda you are exactly right. Is anyone so nieve to think a corporation would spend a single penny if it didn't have to? It's called being good corporate neighbours. We have the same thing going on down here with the windfarm under construction. First they cut down an eagles nest to put up 3 windmills 600 meters from my home then brag that they put up 6 nests and 1 has been occupied by a nesting couple as well they have donated the nest they pulled down to the school board. I'd love to know where they came across 6 eagle nests? I know, they cut them down somewhere else. How stupid do they think we are? If I were the fishing club in Huron I would tell them to go pound salt, but then again Bruce Power peaced them off with a dinner including desert. Now if they want to donate some real money we can talk. I asked Samsung to build us a boat ramp on the shore of their 55 windmill Nextel project and was told it is under consideration, that was a year ago.
  2. Heard the same thing on 900 CHML this afternoon. Charged with forcible confinement and some other charges, need to find a press release to post here. This is strange to say the least. How did they narrow the suspect down to a specific individual?. Some good police work going on here. Let's just pray he is safe, unfortunately I think it's too late but nabbing a suspect is a huge step to locating him. Those suspects went there for a reason and it wasn't to steal a truck. If he didn't know his kidnappers he knew the person(s) that sent them I believe. Unless this was a pure kidnap for ransom, if that's the case he's still alive unless something went horribly wrong. Here's a link to charges laid. Looks like social media played a big part by detailing the tattoo on the suspects wrist in my opinion. http://www.cknw.com/Channels/News/Toronto/story.aspx?ID=1958968
  3. While your running the motor keep reaming out the overflow with a good stiff piece of weed trimmer line in case there may be bits of the old water pump in the pisser line.
  4. If your grand dad was an Ironworker in Hamilton in the 80's I guarantee I worked with him at some point, they were always in on shutdowns where we made iron. I wonder what ever came of the Lesson brothers? they were big time here in the 80's. Did you get out for the opener on the river today? The boys from Hamilton chickened out, fair weather fisherman they are.
  5. Wow, it really works. I just tried it with some old spoons. The hotter the water the better. Thanks for the link.
  6. Irish, It doesn't work like that. It shuts down if it hasn't reached pressure setting. Filling your pool the pump will cycle to pressure max then to pressure min. If the pump runs continuously without hitting the off setting it will shut down. Get one.
  7. A Johnson, oh no, tell me it's not so. I didn't notice the Johnson. Sell the boat, now. Don't wait until the morning, sell it now!!!! Every time I see a Johnson the cowl is off. That's OK don't panic, you can always upgrade to a Merc someday. Enjoy. It's Friday night and this vodka sure tastes fine!
  8. That rig sure makes your garage much nicer. You know the old saying about the 2 happiest days of a boat owner, it's Bull. Enjoy. I remember when I got my new rig after going without for 20 years, I would get up to take a, well you know what, and had to flip the light switch on and look outside and say " that's mine ". I still do, wife says come to bed honey, it will be there in the morning, I promise.
  9. While you're at it ask for a 30/60 that is set to shut the pump off after a certain period of time. That ensures you don't have a flood if you have a break in a line or leave the tap running and end up with a burned out pump that runs dry. I know you shut it off when you leave but a lot can go wrong when you aren't in the cottage to hear the pump running too long. I had a Swagelok fitting separate once in the middle of the summer and the pump shut down before we had a disaster in stead of a wet floor. The last one I bought was an entire 30 bucks taxes included from Home Hardware. If you are anything like me I had no idea how much a pressure switch costs when I had my first pump, heck I never knew there was such a thing, turn on the tap and water comes out. If the guy asked for $139.99 I wouldn't have had a clue when I bought my first foot valve.
  10. That's not fair. I'm sure the guy has been being told how stupid he was for years. It takes a big set of corliones to admit to stupidity. And I dare anyone to say they have never done anything stupid that was dangerous and could have killed themselves or anyone else. That person doesn't exist. He said it was instincts that took over. I think swimming with sharks and jumping out of a perfectly good plane is stupid too. Bungee jumping is stupid. But whom am I too call those that do stupid? Having a few beers and driving is the stupidest thing we can do, and everyone that drinks has done it at least once, now that's really stupid.
  11. Lew, I've spent about $700.00 on shrink wrap in the last 3 years. I was thinking spend a few bucks more on a good quality cover and it will pay for itself. I have made supports for below the cover with ABS pipe and are supported with toilet closet flanges. We really don't get any snow here, cleared the drive twice last winter, zero 2011/12. So snow load shouldn't be an issue. I was quoted $550.00 including HST today for a quality canvas with 3 year warranty. For 700 I can get the best available and a 5 year warranty. I think I'm going to go with the upgrade material, it is used by the Canadian military, if good enough for them it's good enough for me. It is a bit heavy but that's the only negative I can find. He said the price is good until the end of the year.
  12. I was planning on covering the new cover with my old cover in the winter. I'm getting a quote for a replacement from a tarp maker in Burlington, I can take in my old cover and they will clone it exactly. I don't like dealing with this type of thing from the internet where I can't see the material and workmanship first hand and who knows how it fits until I get it, this way I know it should fit perfectly. Thanks all.
  13. Whomever you choose do it now. All the good ones fill their books early, the ones not booked full early are not booked for a reason. The reason being they probably are the ones you don't want to go with and it is reflected in their demand. Just like someone with camps not full for openings, no fish or bad accommodations. The economy does come into play in some cases I concede that. Some good guides and camps had waiting lists way back when and some still do, those are the ones we want to go with.
  14. Both fantastic stories, thanks for sharing I know it probably difficult. Hopefully it can be a lesson to us all concerning water safety, life and death and how fragile we as humans really are. I always have my PDF on before I get in the boat and have found I still had it on driving down the road on the way home. I don't mind if someone takes their jackets off when we are not running from spot to spot. I will not start the boat for a run unless they put one on. The stand pat answer is, " come on buddy, I know how to swim! ", my stand pat answer is " you see that shoreline a few miles from here, can you make it there?" if you can't you can't swim. Swimming a few laps in a back yard pool or even a few laps in an Olympic size before you need to stop and hold onto the side is NOT swimming, it's a controlled float. In fact thinking about it, new rule this year, the jacket stays on unless your' re Joanne Mallar. Then she puts it on going full out. Don't like it stay home or buy a PDF. Better yet buy your own boat and do whatever you want. So the stories have made a difference already, thanks.
  15. She sure is a beauty. Is the pic after the stain? Or just wet?
  16. Find 30 feet of water off the lighthouse in the lake and drop a pickerel rig or drop shot with a emerald shiner on the hook(s). If you find them work your electronics and follow the school. It's about as simple as that. Haven't heard about anyone slamming perch there yet though and haven't known the river to be a hotbed for perch either, the lake is your best bet for yellows. Good luck, have fun and stay safe. I don't know what the wind will be doing this weekend but the lake has a big chop today. Opening for walleye is this weekend on the river, keep your eyes open, the river should be busy and that boat launch busy as well.
  17. TJ, This is the spring of 2013,,who knows about next week?
  18. When deciding a big box retail location a simple circle is drawn around an area. If you draw a circle encompassing 40 miles around St. Kitts, St. David's or NOTL or whatever you wish to call it you have more than one million residents including Western NY. That's a big market. There are many people that won't even think about driving towards TO from the Hammer/Niagara anymore unless absolutely necessary. I'd rather go to Gander Mountain in Tonawanda then to Bass Pro Shop outside TO. Same time traveling, or less. The border wait included.
  19. There still active on the Grand south of the Dunnville dam. And most all creeks in the Haldimand Norfolk area that run into Erie. Some of the simplest presentations for a fish that get into the high 30's or more. We use frozen shrimp then eat the bait that's left over.
  20. Change the pressure switch. Get a preset 30 psi on 60 psi off.
  21. TJ, Do you have a link to that press release? Thanks JD
  22. If I see a 3 foot worm crawling out of a fishes ass, it may the first time in 35 years I will be clocked running a sub 4.6 second 40. I also wish I never read this post, and no I'm not quitting the sport because I deep 6 a fish with a 3' tapeworm, come on man that comment is absurd. I'll send it to you and you can eat it and the tapeworm, the tapeworm shouldn't be wasted should it? Keep golfing out of it, I have a great recipe for spaghetti and golf balls.
  23. The same hold true for customer service for my pooched Garmin. It was over a grand new. They are like flat screen TV's now, mostly unrepairable, basically told to go out and buy a new unit after the warranty runs out, less money than repair plus shipping. Thanks Garmin I could have done that before I spent a week trying to talk to a real human from Garmin in the first place.
  24. Ok, I'm laughing, thanks for the chuckle, I'm using it today, calling my Uncle from Lexington KY. He might not find it humorous.
  25. I saw the press conference, this is strange to say the least. Something you see on CNN from the states, not usually here. Let's just hope he is located and he is unharmed. There has to be more to the story we will learn about when he is home and safe. Man what's next.
