  1. Good for you, always a win when you hit them off the beaten track. That first picture is why I stopped steelhead fishing 30 years ago. Not a very serene atmosphere, like fishing from the greys at Maple Leaf Garden's.
  2. I don't want to hijack this thread but I have a question about the exact thing. Finally found a good crank battery to fit and put on the earmuffs yesterday and started my 115 merc. There is water coming out a pee hole next to the prop but once I started it no water at the shaft. I thought I should run it for a few minutes but am chicken. How long before it warms up? Does low water pressure/flow from the garden hose effect this? I think the garden line is plugged up a bit. Going to launch tomorrow, crossing my fingers.
  3. Mat, Take a look at Cozy Cove cottages on Callendar Bay, on the south shore of Nippissing Nice little sandy beach. Play area with swings etc. It is on a small bay loaded with panfish that is sheltered from the big lake that can get bad scary fast. Many places to visit just a short ride to North Bay, everything to do on a rainy day. Matinees at the theatre, restaurants, Mickey D's, big grocery stores and shops. Dionne quintuplits museum at the top of the road. Across the road you can have them pick wild blueberrys all day long. I don't know if the blueberries they eat or the excersize but they will be asleep all night long. There's always the dump for Bear watching. Really good safe boats with electric starts on them. The cottages were spotless.. If you want to venture out on the bay less than a 1/2 mile a great shoal for smallies, pike and walleye. I hereby declare that I have no affiliation in any way associated with this resort, it's management, ownership, board of directors et all . Sorry I just couldn't help it. I can be such an A hole sometimes.
  4. Those pics should come up open. Try again.
  5. TJ I did some google for Yammy 4 stroke 2.5 HP and came across some specs you might use TJ. Cooling says water, thermostatically controlled so my guess that it might be air cooled is wrong as well. I'll be back if I find anything else that may help. The heading did say 2.5 horse but I now see the specs say 2HP? here's the link, it has a picture so you might compare. http://boatmarineasia.com/products/New-Yamaha-2.5-HP-Outboard-Motor-Four-Stroke-Portable.html Product Description Series: Four Stroke Portable HP: 2 Engine Type: 1 Cylinder Displacement: 4.4 ci (72 cc) Compression Ratio: 9.0 RPM Range: 4500-5500 Fuel Induction System: OHV Fuel Type: Unleaded gasoline (minimum pump octane 87) Exhaust: Thru prop Ignition System: TCI CARB Rating: 3-Star Alternator Outputat WOT: NA Starting System: Manual Lubrication: Splash Gear Ratio: 2.08 Control Type: Tiller Handle Trolling Throttle Adjustment: N/A Cooling: Water, Thermostatic Control Weight: 37 lb Gear Shift: F-N Command Link System: No Enhanced Ultimate Corrosion Protection System UCP: Standard Feature Power Trim and Tilt: No Shaft Length: 15 inch Gearcase Rotation: Right Hand (Standard) Stop Switch Lanyard: Yes Ultimate Corrosion Protection System: Yes 3 Year Limited Warranty: Yes Thermostatic Cooling System: Yes Aluminum Propeller: Standard Tiller Handle Steering: Standard
  6. I can see the Gar pike swim by on Erie from my deck. They should be showing up shortly and will be here until late June. They are a very slow moving fish until a male Smallmouth feels they are too close to a bed then they move like rockets. I have tried everything but can't get a strike. Only once I had one take a silver and black floating Rappala, it took it very gently side ways after staring at it forever and held on for a few seconds and just let go (this was done sight fishing). They are the one of the most colourful fish we have here. The first one I saw was here snorkeling. They are beautiful, shine like glass, almost see through translucent, have all the colours of the rainbow and can get well over 35" here. In Florida I caught a few with balls of yarn wrapped around the shank of a large baitholder hook with the hook cut off, strange I know. At first I thought the locals were having some red neck fun with me. The yarn would get tangled in the fishes teeth and got lassoed. I've tried this here as well, no luck. That fish is on my Ontario bucket list. I have only have a few left other than the list of suckers that I don't care to get. I would love to get one. Being able to see your target should make it easy, what it is can only be described as frustrating. I've tried everything but a CIL wabbler. Any suggestions folks?
  7. Are you serious? Mmmmmm.......fresh fish guts, can't get enough.
  8. I tip my hat to the guys at Bills Live Bait and Tackle on Upper James St. on Hamilton mountain. They all make you feel like a somebody. Have never been to Sail, Bass Pro Shop and was at LeBarons when the Outdoors Store was still open
  9. Seems like this season is get a new battery season for many. There are many threads re batteries lately. After extensive research I have found that Johnson Controls makes almost all brand batteries including Kirkland for Costco, Nautilus for CTC and believe Everready for Walmart. I did learn something new and that is to check the number of charges the battery will take when discharged to 20% from full, it's it is the number that will give a good indication of it's expected life. Look at a $350.00 Nautilus with 900 amps to a $145.00 Nautilus with 900 amps. Something like 1000 recharges vs 60. The other thing is replacement warranty vs prorated warranties after 1 year. Some of those 1 year replacements plus 2 year warranties will give you around $15.00 after the first year on a $150.00 unit. Check the manufacture date on the battery, that marine battery may have been sitting in the warehouse since last year or more. Not many marine batteries sold here in the winter. If they don't come fully charged forget about it. My truck costs me $20.00 to get to the city and back, to return a bad battery that won't take a charge may cost me 30% in fuel costs to return it. If you run any electronics from the cranking battery get a combo deep cell/cranking.
  10. That's the best thing I believe. Man I can be lazy sometimes. If it's in the boat there can't be a problem. Just need to wrap her up and treat her gently. Thanks all.
  11. Sounds like medical advice needed here. I will shut up and stay shut up. Missed about 7 years of med school.
  12. I'm busted. Let me reiterate "give on the internet".
  13. There's someone up on the Blast Furnace charging platform, elevation 1072 feet above sea level having a beer watching the sun set, that's what firewatch is. Now that's something I can testify to as an expert witness. I thought I invented the phrase wanna be in the early 80's and still contend that I did. The wheel was simultaneously invented by 2 separate cavemen and each one takes credit for it, Cavemen Goodyear and Firestone. So maybe they both came up with WGSF, or someone's wrong. Also I'll take a bucket of nice size Rockies any day, just make sure you have a good sharp knife.
  14. I am heading down to upper NY state on May 16th for a weekend trip with family from North Tonawanda NY. I always pick up a crock of Crown at duty free. Even though I have been crossing the ditch for 59 years it just hit me I may be breaking the law. Here's the situation. I tow the boat and don't want to pull back the cover to put the bottle in it for fear it might be smashed around by the time I get to the lake. I usually put it behind the back seat of the pickup. I know in Ontario it must be out of the reach of driver and passengers so I put it behind the rear seat. This will be the first haul with my new Silverado and the crew cabs rear seat doesn't fold forward. I will have to put it under the seat, or unsnap the cover of the boat and put it in a storage box that I don't want to do. I imagine the question is appropriate for Ontario as well if I store a bottle under the back seat instead of taking the risk of breaking it throwing it into the box. If I get pulled over by a trooper will I be cited for alcohol within reach? I've asked both Uncle and cousin in NT and they don't know or don't care. just as long as I bring one. Any law enforcement folks here? Thanks in advance.
  15. What do you mean nice? It's your post. Why don't you post a classified here for her unless the deal for a trade is done? She sure is clean looking. I know the Ranger will serve you well for a couple of Bassassins. Was that you passing me last opener doing 50? Do you know how many smallies you ran over? I might not be going fast but get nervous when the capt. tells me to put on a crash helmet in a boat!!!!!!!!!!! You won't believe a fish just jumped 12' from shore as I was typing, it surely must be a sign from above. Might not be a bass but it's a fish. That 9 AM T time would be cancelled if I had a battery in the boat today.
  16. Was it worth the drive? I think so, the bonus was you snagged a beauty to boot.
  17. What a little trooper that kid of yours is. You are getting my vote for Dad of the month. Bless you Nick, fathers like you are special. Don't forget Pappa Gretzky had the boys on the ice at 18 months. By the time the little guy isn't so little he might be buying you a new boat with his winnings. He has actually changed a lot since you 2 were power drinking together this past winter. I forwarded that pic from here to Japan and Europe to old friends and family and these are going as well. He's not 9 months and already an international sportsman. Insert smiley face here.
  18. She sure is a beauty ,good haul lad, now as far as the fashion statement I have to wonder if you were the guys I saw on a poster at Canada Customs recently?
  19. Maverick and Star Tzar, exactly what are you 2 selling? With all that gear as Sheriff Brady said "We're gonna need a bigger boat."
  20. Keep your drivers license in the car, fishing license in the boat and marriage license at the lawyers office.
  21. Government websites are very informative but as I said before going into a ministry office has served me well, often FAQ's aren't as good as having someone in front of you to answer. Go to a MTO office and ask for the definite answer.
  22. Don't forget the W5 when asking a question CK, who? what? when? where? why? you will always get a better answer. Any right of way or public "easement" doesn't mean that we as citizens have the right to use that property. For example my deed shows that I own to a certain property line, and that location is an exact number. However the municipality has access to so many feet onto my property to serve the community for services etc. It could be to run a gas line to a neighbours residence, cut back limbs on my tree as to ensure foliage does not interfere with electrical lines, put in a bus stop and run underground telephone cable for example. The list goes on and on. They can do all this without my permission. However anyone that is not authorized to do so although on a municipal right of way or easement is trespassing. Public right away is not a good term, the public is not allowed to use a municipal easement on private land. For example, we own to the shoreline as it was when surveyed in 1986 and not beyond that, so theoretically anyone walking along the beach is trespassing and I am responsible for their safety even though that's trespassing. If they wanted to fish there they legally would need to be standing in the water to do so, at least past the geographic waypoints that the survey shows .Personally I see people fishing from shore there regularly and just wave and remind them that my charge is 4 nice size jumbo perch. I sure would never ask someone to walk around the property when they were taking a stroll my next door neighbour actually put up no trespassing signs on the beach. But, when someone decides to make a bonfire on the beach and drink while blasting music they were not welcome and were told so. If they weren't drinking and kept the music down after, and I mean AFTER, they asked my permission well then maybe. But you just can't use a municipality easement to fish, it is private property in most al cases. That's why you can fish from a bridge, now that's public property.
  23. Talk about aggressive Northerns check this out. I stand corrected, they are greedy eaters.
  24. Good for you man. The little guys are beauties, as I always say it's not always size that counts. You did get the colours on the camera. I agree bushwacking is for the young at heart and body. When I was in the best shape of my life, 2 a day workouts twice a week sometimes, we used to go up to Varney and almost had to machete our way into the bush and I can tell you it was tough then, and as well we were in tip top condition. Called it the Mekong Delta. Once again good for you, and you didn't even have to ask anyone here before you hit the jackpot!
