My wife is working today so a bowl of Turkey soup is the feast for this holiday. I looked at the scale after I put on a spring jacket yesterday, oh my. I can miss a few meals. 12 pounds on the mid section that I used to refer to as abbs. Thank to this thread, thanks a lot fellow OFC members, thanks a lot. (Of course stuffing my yap had nothing to do with it, all this threads fault).

Idea's of buying a Kawartha resort?
Old Ironmaker replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
One thing I would want to add is if you are in pre retirement you must be closer to 80 than 10. Some people think they will always be able to do what they are able to do at 50. If the aches and pains as well as some worse health things creep up on you, you may not be able to do what is needed without hiring staff. Like plumbers, carpenters, welders, electricians, painters, mechanics, labourers etc. etc. That will kill your bottom line faster than a bullet. A big question for anyone thinking about buying any business is Why are they selling? I guarantee you if it were that lucrative they would not be selling it outright unless the sale will carry them to enjoy a nice lifestyle for the rest of there lives. A million bucks ain't what it once was. I don't get why some people think semi-retirement is going from 40 hours a week 5 days a week with many weeks vacation to 80 hours 7 days a week and no vacation. -

No one can suggest to you if it's a good or a bad idea unless they really know you. One prerequisite for that type of business is better than average customer services skills. I am the kind of person that most likely would be charged with assault dealing with some people. You have to be a saint when it comes to drunks busting all your stuff. -
Happy Easter from us too. We are hiding out from Easter dinner from the family today. I've always wanted to play hooky from a family dinner, todays the day. Ever feel good and bad at the same time. Off to Port Dover for perch. The freezers empty of fish now.

Our deepest condolences here Lew. We drove by his place last fall when we stayed in the west arm.

According to what I read this morning there will be 4" Tetrad" eclipses tonight. There have been a total of 8 of this type of eclipse in the last 2000 years. My 3 year old great niece won't see another one unless she lives to 100. I hope it's not overcast. The article didn't say what time or much more than what I said here. Anyone have anymore info than that?

It,s over, but a new begins. Mini road trip
Old Ironmaker replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
Great pics. The first log is a Raccoon. You know you have it bad when you go on a road trip looking for ramps that are open. That was on the road trip menu last Wed. Good news here on Erie, I can see a strip of open water about a kilometer out. There is ice beyond it though. I'm almost to the point I can post a pic, finally figured out how to download from my PC to Photo Bucket with the help of a new laptop and M2B2. I'll get it eventually. -
It all depends who you are fishing with Lew. I've never hunted but I guess there are some rules that don't apply on the rez. Johnathan was hunting from the passenger seat of a truck and was standing on a county road when he let the shot go. That is not a rumour it was reported in our weekly rag here. Just sad.

If half of the rumours that have been started concerning this tragedy are true I can't see why the crown didn't have a case. If Mr. Kosid's family wins a wrongful death suit there is nothing to recover from Stan Jonathan. He was and still is living a meager lifestyle on 6 Nations and he appears to have no means of support. It's sad all around, I have empathy for both families. If you saw him you would never recognize him from his glory days. He should never had a gun in his hands that morning. Enuff said.

I hope levels are down this year, We didn't have any beach here after all the snow in the winter of 13', 14'. Many rocks were only inches or just below water levels making boating close the shoreline dangerous when normally they can be seen. Will have to wait and see. Still no open water today off Hoovers Point, Lake Erie.

Yea different Rick, that's what my wife says, I sure am different. Ever send the new guy on the crew to find a skyhook. One kid came back with a crane hook for a 300 tonner dragging it behind a loader, 4 hours latter.

It's a Facebook world that we live in
Old Ironmaker replied to SirCranksalot's topic in General Discussion
No Facebook here, nor twitter, text, twat, none of it. Someone told be they had over 200 Facebook friends, I don't know 200 people. I asked would any of them go out at 3 AM in the rain to help you change a tire? Didn't think so. -
Not good Lew, cut knuckle hurt like a ^&%$ard. Steve if my dogs licked up all the blood on the floor I would be sleeping with the door locked with a gash in my hand. Dogs are like sharks, they smell blood a mile away.

Rods and reels are like antique golf clubs. Antique golf balls are worth huge money just like lures compared to rods and reels, not many rods and reels get lost, the same as golf clubs. However golf balls are like lures, lost everyday. I should have known that when I bought a set of clubs and bag from the 30's and we hit all the antique balls into the lake. I don't even want to guess how much those feather balls go for, probably a few thousand bucks hit into the lake, and the bottle of Cognac only cost 50 that caused the whole thing to happen. Man!!!!

Blizz, things will look brighter in the AM. I will drill a hole for you but I don't think the return trip up there is in the budget. You sound down Bro, chin up. I don't know what model of Caravan cost $500.00 a day but I can't afford that either so I'm in the same boat. I could tell you spring is right around the corner but being in Yellowknife I'm not to sure about that. Here's something positive to look towards, by the time your ribs are healed there may still be enough ice for you to drill yourself, there's a cup half full thing!

Maple sap wore the paint right down to the metal on my wife's car. No other trees where that car is ever parked. -

Video from last fall muskie fishing
Old Ironmaker replied to mistaredone's topic in General Discussion
If I open the link it goes to a different You Tube Musky video everytime, this last time it was Lake St. Clair. The first one I saw may have not even be yours. It did have a different name. It was pretty good too. I don't know what is going on. That fisherman definitely had his boat tied to a green marker buoy, 100% for sure. -
Most of the folks here have been around long enough to know I'm the guy that usually doesn't get the joke when everyone else is killing themselves laughing. There are few April Fools gags I have no idea what the joke is. Maybe someone can help me get it. First is M2B2's thing about the cell phone. Please help, I don't get it. Jeremy84. The next one is the thing about a reputable obstacle course company and the 2000 on the aircraft carrier. I didn't even know there are obstacle course companies let alone reputable ones. Guess what, I don't get it. And last but not least the announcement that the Bills are playing the Argos in preseason. Actually this one I get but I thought I would let you all know it wasn't so far fetched at one time. Is anyone old enough to remember the Ti-Cats played Buffalo in a pre season game at the old Civic Stadium in the 50's? Didn't think so. Hamilton won easily. They played 4 downs for 2 quarters and 3 downs for 2. That would have been neat to witness. npt1, there's another one I don't get. Funny, I wasn't the Foreman was I? edit: it's not that they aren't good ones, it's just that I don't get it.

My old Maple tree just let go in the past 4 days NF
Old Ironmaker replied to davey buoy's topic in General Discussion
We have Maples here and the sap got on my wife's like new Altima. On just a few spot not everywhere like you describe Davey. WD 40 did the job, only do a small area at a time. It didn't harm the paint at all, great to get oil paint off of anything including hands. I missed a few spots on the hood and it took the clear coat and paint off down to the aluminum, You need to get it off asap but I would call my insurance guy tomorrow and report it. If you do anything before calling them they may give you a hard time if it indeed needs to be cleaned professionally. They should have someone on call because not all accidents happen during business hours. In fact I would call them right now. A call doesn't cost a penny, sort of, they already have your money. -
Yes Bill M troll for them. that I can easily do. Now all I need are some Fire Tiger coloured bricks.
-
Craigson, I have heard that 50's are rare, but if it's true 50's are in there well even better for the Musky hunters. I want to give it a go this year. I just need to find a Musky guy that has some of those 50 buck lures. Plus I need to work out in the Gym before tossing those bricks for a day.

Video from last fall muskie fishing
Old Ironmaker replied to mistaredone's topic in General Discussion
That video is pretty good for a first time. That fish is a beauty. Now as far as the ooohing and ahhhing, you might want to rethink that, if I only heard the audio I might have thought it was an amateur porno or you caught your fingers in the car door. A bit disturbing, funny but disturbing. Isn't it illegal to anchor a boat to a channel marker or buoy? Keep it up, you sound comfortable speaking in front of the camera, not everyone does as some sound like they are reading from a script, or there are many ahhhhhs and ummms in guys dialogue. you did great. More please.
