  1. I'm told by a pal that is a chemist at the Nanticoke refinery that by the time a tank of regular gas in the car is on the bottom 1/4 it is already breaking down. unless you are going through a tank or more a week. So that tells me how important it is to treat fuel in the boat. Cheap insurance and peace of mind for me. My neighbour takes my old plugs and puts them in his engine.
  2. I was a believer for a long time. I made my own scents with oil of anise which I bought at the pharmacy. I have a bottle holder at the bow of the boat that holds 3 bottles of scents worm, crawfish and garlic. I don't use them anymore and still have zero fish days and limit days. I think they are a confidence thing. Fish with confidence in your equipment, bait, location, weather conditions, electronic ability, etc. and you pay more attention and I believe that results in more fish. If you feel scent gives you more confidence slather it on and it will work.
  3. Canuck2fan, a fantastic read, thank you.
  4. Wear an approved respirator for metallic airborne particulate including lead, not a mask.
  5. I don't bake because I don't measure anything cooking, it's all feel. Baking is too precise, not for me.
  6. My boat is designed to have 2 batteries on the bow for the 24V trolling motor. Non issue I believe. The original owner wired one of the 12 volts at the bow to be used as an emergency starter for the 115 on the back, those wires are very heavy gauge, at least 5/8 inch in diameter.
  7. One of the coolest things we did working at the steel plant was docking the Ore boats and being invited on board to eat in the mess. Not in November and December, standing on that dock getting sprayed with 0C water wasn't fun at all. If the ship kissed the dock the 1st mate didn't invite you on board. You have to stand in the bottom of a hold to appreciate the enormity of these "boats". Often we had our guys go down into the holds with one of our loaders to corner clean the ore out as they often would go for grain after off loading iron ore. I always wondered why the crews referred to them simply as boats.
  8. Ketchenany, My baking is limited to Pizza's and toast, my wife is the baker around our place too. I find many that can cook up a storm don't bake and vice versa. Not always but more often than not.
  9. I got my fill of cooking from an early age. When I stayed with my grand parents in western NY before I started grade school and every summer until I was old enough to get a summer job My Noni dragged me to whatever restaurant around Buffalo she was cooking at until my uncle bought a restaurant and Noni was the cook. I had knife skills before most kids were allowed to touch one. I didn't touch a spatula for many years. Then when we started going on fishing trips I started cooking again because not many 20 something year olds can cook much besides KD and Campbell's soup. So I was camp cook. It's good to encourage kids to do what they are interested in when young, never too young to start cooking.
  10. Harper telling us we need to arm ourselves? I must have missed that one. Please elaborate Dave Roach.
  11. Smally21, I haven't read or I missed where there was ever a Deer found. As far as I know there wasn't any deer found injured, only a sighting of a Deer acting strange by a neighbour in the area. You must be a lawyer or politician. That is not a dig, you are very eloquent in your writings.
  12. I used to grab Pike behind the head and was admonished by a very experienced fisherman to stop. He said the back bone could be broken easily and the fish will die, especially hammer handles. Good point. When I first fished for Pike grabbing them by the eyes is what I was taught. This was back when we kept all of them to eat. Thinking back that was a terrible thing to do and it still bothers me today thinking about doing that. Don't do that either. Side note, Pike are fantastic in Tomato sauce for pasta, there's nothing wrong with keeping a fish for the table.
  13. Great post from Rice Laker. From the horses mouth so to speak.
  14. Back in the 80's was the first time I went to Italy. After landing in Rome I was quite surprised and it was un nerving to see all the military personnel armed with automatic weapons held across their bodies in a public place. That might have been the first time I ever saw a real "machine gun" let alone someone carrying it. Europe had been dealing with terrorists for many years by then, the Brigada Rosa was targeting public places often then. Terrorism was something we saw on the news from other places, not here in Canada. The only terrorism here that I can remember as a kid was the FLQ murder and kidnapping.
  15. I just checked with the fasionista that lives here, it's not called pink anymore it's many hues of Salmon. So it's Salmon tighties, not pink.
  16. I thought the same way before speaking to a military officer in Hamilton. The James St. Armories where Cpl. Nathan Cirillo's unit is out of is 1/2 block from the social club where I am a member and several of the soldiers out of there stop in for a coffee. I asked that exact same question to a few military officer's that stopped in the club around the time of this trgedy. They all said they do not want any soldiers especially reservists with live ammunition in any civilian areas unless in the time of war. If a firefight broke out with a member of the military on Canadian soil and an innocent member of the civilian population were ever injured or killed, he called it collateral damage, it would put the military back decades. The military spends millions on public relations because a strong favourable opinion by the public results in loosening the purse strings by polititians for military budgets. Imagine the public outcry if any civilians were killed that day or any day in fact by any soldier let alone a reservist? I know reservists are just as qualified, most civilians might not. Doesn't it always come down to the mighty $.
  17. He was not exonerated. I believe a trial must take place to be exonerated, charges were dropped, there's a difference. A civil suit is still an option but you can't get blood from a stone. I was at the rez this AM and this thing is still the talk of the town. I won't repeat what was said to me because that's rumour but I can tell you 100% of the guys I talked to are not happy with Jonathans actions and do not defend him in any way. I told them about this thread and asked me to pass on that all of them are hunters and don't want to be painted by the same brush as none said they would have taken that shot, no way.
  18. Unpinking believable. As if what someone wears is a reflect of their manhood. I'm surprised a long time member would troll like this. There are a few hundred NFL and CFL players that wear pink on the field during Breast Cancer Awareness week that would like to disagree with you North East Shark. Come on mame, your stupidity is showing. Bubba Watson has a pink driver, how Gay. I'm actually agreeing with Bill M. Woywa wewa.
  19. Pink today is associated with the fight against breast cancer. I wear pink, what about it?
  20. When the sun went down last night the lake was frozen over here at our place. A thunderstorm and on shore wind last night, so when the sun came out this morning, tada, open water as far as the eye can see, magic. I'm amazed how much is gone in 8 hours or so. It's soft water season all. Off to Lake Ontario Thursday, who rah. I will report back for my first day fishing. Gotta get some inches for our team. Has body of water you fish broken up yet? Team 5, we catch em but keep them all alive. Johnny D
  21. It was a crossbow without a stock, it had a small pistol grip. It did look like a toy but was no toy.
  22. What is the world coming to M2B2?
  23. Jigster, first welcome aboard. I hope you enjoy this site. If you haven't, I may have missed it, post an intro for everyone introducing yourself. That Smallie on the bottom right is a Pig of a fish. The others are nothing to laugh at either. I do know that there are zones in northern Ontario where Bass is open all year. Pretty well the rest of On. opening is the 3rd Saturday in June. You personally need to check the regs to be 100% certain. Don't take anyone's opinion about the regs. I got caught once for not looking myself. No fine but I don't want to be in that position again. We were fishing for Walleye below the Caledonia Dam in the Grand River the year they had it changed zones.
