  1. If you get Nav+ chip you can download the area's you fish. I have the chip in my graph and app on the ipad. I find I run the gps on my ipad more as I like the bigger screen.
  2. Man the things we go through to catch a fish haha
  3. He's got the pose down! Looks like a great day. He looks ready for the baitcaster and foot on the trolling motor now.
  4. Looks awesome. I was walking the rivers and being in the boat crossed my mind many times!
  5. Locally JBs has em and Gagnons sells the Owner ones which are nicer but pricey. Also picked them up ordering from rollie and helens and cabelas.
  6. CT for the sale or clearance items only. Smaller guys for whatever I need that's the right price... I always order rods/reels from Bill's in Hamilton. There's lots of smaller shops out there that specialize in gear for certain bodies of water or species that are helpful. Box stores might get 30-50% of my business these days, mainly cuz of availability, location and the convenience. But I give my business to the little guys first if it makes sense... can't imagine the hit they take now with the emergence of these corporate stores!
  7. Sweet report.. look like an awesome day out there. Thanks for the write-up.
  8. Wow. TV/Sat off the grid! Sounds like you got this down.
  9. Personally I don't have a problem with printing less regs. Sounds like the business case makes a lot of sense. Like said there are tons of ways to get the info. But there are good arguements on either side and I can understand how having a hard copy handy is helpful for some. But does it make enough sense to keep spending the money printing them? It would be great if those that need a copy can request one if need be. Hopefully the money saved here is going to good use!
  10. Classic. Someone needs to put together a Ron James reel.
  11. I had a '03 TJ for a little over a year and sold it last summer. It was a fun thing to drive... but noisy, bumpy and lacked comfort. I like the new full size wranglers.. they're probably a lot more comfortable than my old tj. I was in the shop a few times, nothing huge but a lot of little things started to go so I sold it and moved on. Those things rust nicely so take are of it well if you get one. I put a nice amount of clicks on mine in 16 or so months and to be honest, after I switched to a comfortable ride I won't go back to one of those just because I drive a lot. 40k/year is a lot, so make sure you're comfortable in it if you wanna keep it for a long time. I do kinda miss driving that thing around, they do have something about them....
  12. I've been waiting for cabelas guidewear to go on sale again, then I'm making my move.
  13. I agree do your research before... don't always count on the fishing store staff. I have a fishing buddy that always says "the guys at lebaron... the guys at sail... the guys at bps said this would be good, etc...." Drives me nuts lol. Unless it's a shop that caters to a specific body of water, then they most likely know a few things about the area.
  14. Whoa. I didn't read it all but scrolled through them and it's missing some big names. It is msn news though....
  15. Looks great. Feels good eh? I know the feeling... decided to redo mine to.. wanted that "brand new" feel as well lol. Labour of love for sure!!!
  16. I just upgraded from older units to an 898... Haven't even used her yet. There is some cool stuff out there now, like the ability to create your own charts from sonar readings which I'm excited about (autochart for HB, Sonarcharts for navionics etc). I've used the hds touch series on my buddies boat quit a bit and they are sweet. But my dream fishfinder would be one of the ladies above for sure. There were some good deals out there on 898 and 998's HB's because the 899/999 just came out, probably still are.
  17. Yeah, topwaters like spooks, they would probably eat a popper too. When they follow/bump cranks, plastics etc., but stop fully committing we brought a few top waters down one night and they started showing interest. Hooking percentage is way low however... think it took over 15 blowups over a few nights to land one. Browns showed the most interest in bigger topwaters but the smaller baits were easier to hook up on. Not the most effective technique for hooking up but super fun and worked in certain conditions. Should mention it was strictly night fishing. But like Bill says those angry browns eat anything sometimes!
  18. Not a weird bait story, but.. I was wading in a reeded area for bass one night on a small private lake and saw a nice largie inhale a dragon fly off the surface. I cast over to the spot and nailed the largie. Reeled it in and the dragon fly was in full form alive in the bass' mouth. Released the bass and the dragon fly managed to still fly, although a bit tattered. Top water bass style for browns on lake O when they shy away from other baits was pretty cool.
  19. Cabela's sales, especially on clearance items, are great.. better than other big retailers. Hope the mark up on items in Canada isn't crazy and they keep the good thing going with their clearance and sales.
  20. I'm pretty pumped to see what Cabela's brings. Let's hope it's comparable to the stores down south.
  21. Nice work. Learning a new body of water is always challenging, looks like you figured it out.
  22. Wow is right!! Awesome photography Mike.
  23. I've gone through lots of LC pointers and never had one malfunction. Only malfunction I have is casting off $16 baits when fishing in negative temps because my gear is too iced up. I always have a back up of my fav colour because I'm pretty good at casting a few off every season!!!
  24. Sweet work!
  25. I was just browsing the classifieds here... there's a 6'6 crucial MH (cork handle) spinning rod that'll be good all round for jerkbaits. You want shorter than 7' IMO, 6'6 MH is nice, longer if you're wading will be tough.
