I see what you're saying there, does make some sense. However, my understand of it was that the actual "butt guide ring" move closer to the reel while it is "mounted" on the blank at the same location as before, which would allow the butt guide to have better control of the unwinding line while not having to sacrifice backbone of the rod. Maybe i'm wrong? but either way ... as MJL said, i doubt that will make a difference for pan/bass fishing purposes. But then... who knows, maybe all we need is that extra 5cm of casting distance to reach the big ones we've always failed to catch

Rich, next time when you go to a Jap. restaurant, try ordering the Unagi (what Stan suggested) ... you can either get them in a shusi or you can eat it with rice like terriyaki chicken but it's eel instead of chicken ... it's one of my favourite plates to order when i do visit a jap restaurant.

IMO i'd say nothing over 12lbs ... ideally 6-8lbs? gives you enough meat and dont' have to worry about too much toxins in them. Besides wouldn't it be hard to cook if they're too big? :S personally I would rather put them back (not because I don't like to eat them) ... my dad wanted me to keep one for the table once, i brought home a 5lber. He made some kind of stew with it and it tasted alright. Can't say it's good but it isn't that bad neither.

i have ... or should i say used to have a Sony Ericsson W810i ... it's an older model, maybe 2 years? I've had mine for 2.5 years. With a 2.0 mega pixel camera phone you should be able to take decent pictures during the day time, but most won't work well at night as their "light" or "flash" isn't bright enough. The W810i has a 2mega pixel camera and what I like about it is it has a "light" function ... which is like a flashlight and it comes in handy all the time. But ... ... the stupid rain drowned my beloved W810i when I went fishing last week ... left it in the outside pocket of my gortex rainjacket ... i stayed dry all night ... my phone didn't

it's good to hear that we have another carp lover here ... most people hate carp around here I find that the smaller (up to maybe 5-6lbs or so) carp you'll usually get a silvery color and rarely see any gold/yellow in them. On the other hand I've never see a bigger fish that has the silverish look. (i'm only talking about common/mirror carp in ontario) Here's my personal fav. pic and here's a baby carp

Great job spinnerdoc! It's hard to see because the pics are so small but it seems that quite a few of them have some big bellies! And i really like the golden color of the one in the 2nd pic. They still eat in the colder weather ... just not as active when it's hot out. Thanks for sharing.

Perhaps more info would help Lorne ... The fish-in is basically a bunch of carpers get together, fish, chat, and have some fun. If you have been wanting to learn about carping, it'd be great to show up as there will be many experienced and friendly carpers who can give you a hand. I'm currently in school (Waterloo) but I'm not sure if I'm coming home (Toronto) this weekend yet ... if I do I will try to make it out Sunday morning.

Great job with the bait making and nice long fish! Maize is great if you fish goby-infested waters ... they strip canned corn off the hook quite easily. Thanks for sharing!

Undergrad Civil Engineering ... class of 2010 I think they drained Columbia Lake a couple years ago and it doesn't look like there's any fish in it. Many others have told me that there were small carp in the ponds in campus ... i've gone out scouting a couple times and didn't see any ... they might also have disappeared after they drained the river system. Used to fish at the grand 2-3 times a week for carp when i had the car ... 2-3 hours would give me 4-5 fish (biggest i've gotten there was 18lbs i think). I would love to go fishing sometime if someone can carpool me.
