As the derby progresses the fish start getting smaller. That fish has reached its prime. now it's down hill. Every year that happens, the largest fish is caught in the first week.

Glad you guys caught. Was out Friday for 12 hours and every boat that came in at Lowbanks Nada , Perch weren't even hitting. Going back tomorrow for a couple days.. Lots of boats out, thought to myself, doesn't anyone work anymore. Must be all old retires. Dam East wind!

You gotta be kidding, our brother Roy should know if anyone should. How about it Roy, don't you fish that territory? Never heard of such a thing. I fish the Grand and they say they own it and have never been bothered.

Always nice to see your reports Lew, nice fish. Sorry about the shoulder, isn't age wonderful. Those golden years, the only thing golden I see is in the morning

Also Rizzo, if it's one of those black ones, toss it, minnows won't go in it. use the older Galv ones.

Thanks Brian, hope you have a safe trip. We'll meet up at Mohawk and hope to swap more fish stories, and maybe get some fishin in I thought about composite boards but they are too thick to put on top of the 2X6, and too run them instead of the 2X6, are not rigid. Thanks for the input comments guys.

Did once, Put someone wanted my tackle more than me. Insurance wouldn't believe how much tackle cost. I laughed when she said, is it really worth it with $100.00 deductible. I told her 1 lure was $10.00 X's ?, 4 rigger rods, reels & 4 Elec. Big Jons She WAS AMAZED.

Just a welded L bracket Brian, One on each end of the 2X6 I'm going out to the garage now and cut them for you.

Another thing, watch power loading, you could put the boat into you backseat of your truck I experimented the other day at the ramp at 50pt. power loading, I put the nose right to the winch with ease. Don't unhook your winch hook till you get close to the water on the ramp, boat could end up on the cement A few guys were at the ramp watching and thought it was a great idea.

For expansion Fishnsled. He also told me to drill the holes a little larger than the size of the bolts I use for expansion. I used 2 1/2" x 1/4" stainless flat head 1 flat washer and a nylon stainless locking nut, and used a 1/4" drill bit, & a 1/2" bit to counter sink the head. I't didn't seem to move the other day when I was out and it was in the sun all day. It may expand a bit but I didn't see it. Could be because cutting it 4'

I cut 4' strips because I started the sheet that way. I can only cut 4' now because it's not 8' anymore. $60.00 for 4 pieces 4" X 4', The guy that I bought it from said you have to allow for expansion, so I cut mine 4' then I cut 1/2 " off each piece, that's why I have a little gap in the middle of the bunk to expand as you can see in the one picture. I had it in the sun the other day and it never moved. The sheet cost me $135.00 and they were going to charge me $25.00 per cut. So I said I'll do it myself. That 4' X 8' sheet is very heavy. I had to cut it on the floor. They have big tables to cut it.

Ya I know Bill, I don't even use them, they were that way when I bought the trailer. My fenders only just touch the water when I load.

I had to buy a 4' X 8' 1/2" sheet TJ Plastruct Polyzone Vineland On. 4305 Springcreek Rd. 1 800 642 7797 It was expensive $135.00 a sheet. plus Stainless hardware $35.00 I cut it myself, 5" strips to cover the 2X6 boards. I'm trying to recoop some cash so I posted on a selling and buying site. I'll post here in the classified. Now posted.

Re-did my bunks a couple months ago with new wood and carpet. What a pain trying to launch at a shallow launch, couldn't get the boat off the trailer. I saw some kits that you can buy that goes on your bunks made of plastic but were small pieces and thought they were too small and poor support. So I bought puck board they use in arenas, HD Polymer 1/2" thick. that stuff is slick. I made my own sliders. took off the carpet that would have rotted my bunks in a few years and re-did them with my own strips. Man, what a difference.

Don't pay any more than $10.00, if you do ask for a receipt. I wrote a letter to OFAH about boat launch gouging to go after these people that control you to fish their lake, as they call it. These are our waters. These people go out of their way to close free ramps just to make you pay. There should be a law gouging you to fish public water. OH", and OFAH didn't even reply, so goodbye OFAH, all they want is to sell insurance now.

All types of fishin, just some are better than others. Jigging finicky Walleye has to be the better for me on a quiet lake nobody around with a few buds, feet up, in the boat telling old stories of years past and buds that have past, maybe catching an odd fish, back at the cottage havin the fish fry, few brews sitting around telling more stories around the campfire. Life is good but too short.

Dropshoting, marketing or real science behind it?
Fish Farmer replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
Some young guy just starting out thought he discovered something, a hook tied to a line with a bell sinker on the bottom. They have been using that technique for years in the east coast, they used to call it set lining, but with 50 hooks on the line for Cod fish or Tommy's. Of course you can only use 4 hooks hear on a set line, excuse me "DROP SHOTTING" Try using snelled hooks, it takes the hook out from the main line. A good example is a Sabiki Bait rig with Hage Skin. Only if we could get them here instead of over the border. They come 6 hooks in tandem, just cut in half and modify , run them upside down with a longer line to the sinker. One of these days I'm going to try and order some here, maybe Bass Pro? A good buddy brings them back from Florida for me. Click below for info
