Stoty, Have you consider you are not fishing your old lake correctly. You mention small pike. What time of the year are you fishing them. Chances are if it's in the summer months the larger pike are no longer in the shallow weeds where you are catching hammer handle pike. Large pike are a cool/cold water species unlike the small pike you are catching. Is there deep water in said lake ? ? If so are lake trout also present in said lake as this shows a cold water ecco system that contains alewife. gizzard shad or other cold water forage. If not then you are correct to find another lake to fish that contains large Esox lucius that look like this one. Good Luck, Bob

Yep, this sounds more like battery neglect more than anything. You can't expect a battery that has sat somewhere all WINTER long to now perform like one that was on maintenance charge during the off season. If this is the way you will be taking care of future batteries purchased, then buy the cheapest ones you can find.

You have it right when you say it will take some rowdiness to get prices settle down. As far as the US having a economic collapse, I don't think so. We have seen MUCH worst times than this and have ALWAYS bounced back to form, after all we aren't #1 for no reason.

Easy Roller Type trailer are notorious for hull problems because of the small area they cover. While trailering and hitting pot holes and rough roads the rollers are punching away at your boat hull. Bunk trailers are much more haul friendly because they distribute more of the boats weight better. With all that said if you can get to the other side of those bad rivets it wouldn't take long to replace them with two guys. Call Lund and have them FedEx you some rivets (for FREE). I am sure they will be happy to do that. Good Luck, Bob

Cruise control will save gas when NOT towing on flat terrain. HOWEVER, if you are towing or in hilly areas cruise control will definitly cost you MPG because it will down shift the engine as required to stay at the set speed. BEST thing you can do to increase MPG is maintain your tire pressure. You might even want to increase PSI 5 pounds above the manufacture rating that is on the drivers door pillar. ALSO keep a light foot on the gas pedal and back off the accelerator when nearing a stop or red light.

I have a hand held Magellan unit, it's one of their first run units that I now don't use but I will say that thing was the hardest unit I have ever seen to operate. Definitely NOT user friendly and because of that I have since purchased Lowrance and Garmin units that are very friendly to the user. This just reassures me that I have made the right decision not to purchase their products in the future.

Nice report and good to hear you had great fishing. Do you have any pics of the accommodation's on the lake ?

I have NO intentions of getting rid of this bad boy I have gone through this Bull before in the 70's. Sooner or later it will settle down and the prices will roll back some. How much is anyones guess. Until then easy on the gas pedal and just cut out few unnecessary trips.

Your guests attack you on the fishing boat, what do you do?

This post is a GOOD reason we need a non fishing sections -
Sounds like a bad cell in the battery. Sorry to hear that as these batteries are starting to get expensive. As far as a battery charger I have heard different problems with different battery chargers (i am referring to on-board chargers). However, I have nothing but good things to say about Cabela's ProSport charger. I have it for about 5 years now and it's been a GREAT asset to my boat.

Miller Out To Lunch....TO Banning Gun Ranges & Warehouses

I can't see where this could be true. We have MUCH more gun rights in the US than you do in Ontario. It's fighting off the liberal tree huggers with vehemently resistance that has kept our gun rights. I believe it will not be long that you gun rights will be restricted more than you ever imagined with a passive approach. I hope not and good luck keeping your rights and not bowing to low life's that seem to get away with WAY too much. Bob -
Just watch some of the better fishing shows like In Fisherman or Linder's Angling Edge. Do you notice anything while they are catching fish. It goes something like this, Today we are catching smallmouth on Rapala's new shad rap. This is one of the HOTTEST lures this season. Or the walleye can't stop biting these Berkley Gulp Alive leeches, this is going to revolutionize walleye fishing. I can remember and I have the tapes of the original In Fisherman shows where Al used LIVE BAIT to catch walleye, smallmouth or crappie. NOT anymore because you can't get a sponsor for live bait. I still enjoy Al Linder and other on his new show and some of the guys at In Fisherman but come on this year I have only seen Rapala's and Berkley baits used on either of these shows. This is Bull to me anyway you look at it. You are watching a info commercial at it's finest. They mention almost everything that they use, rod, reel, line and now even the dang landing net. You are being assimilated and you don't even realize it. I believe I seen one show where they even mentioned the gas station they like to stop at on the way to the lake. Since I don't purchase said magazines I have to ask, do the fishing articles go the same route in mentioning what lures you should use etc.................. Bob

Miller Out To Lunch....TO Banning Gun Ranges & Warehouses
Billy Bob replied to CLofchik's topic in General Discussion
WOW, hot topic, almost as hot a topic as it would be here in the US. BOTTOM LINE and I know you all have heard this before but it's the naked truth. Guns don't kill, PEOPLE kill. Like I said before on page one, "Don't outlaw guns, outlaw the people who are the real problem. Think about this for a moment. Here in the US in large cities where guns are VERY restricted in the sale or possession we have the largest crime. However, in our western states where all you have to do is walk into a store to purchase any kind of gun the streets are safe, crime is almost non existence, people feel safe in there homes and no one is afraid of gun ownership. In matter of fact when I was out west two years ago there were the HUGE billboards with local politicians advertising they back your rights to own a firearm. Don't see that in eastern states or anywhere I have been in Ontario. You have a problem in Toronto with some of the low lifes that are allowed to prowl among the law abiding citizens and no one wants to address that as the real problem. Until then, the senseless violence will continue in Toronto and here in the US. -
NONE anymore. I find most of them are all Bull and trying to sell you something, anything.

What are your favorite fishing spots?
Billy Bob replied to johnthefisherman's topic in General Discussion
This reminds me when I was a kid (17 or 18) and just started deer hunting. I parked the truck and seen a guy dragging his deer the last few steps to his car. I went over to admire his nice buck and asked him "mister where did you get the deer" he said "in the woods"........ I like Lake Erie for perch and walleye, Ontario for salmon and trout and just about any Ontario inland lake that I have been on. Bob -
Please post a picture when finished. I have to see this

Miller Out To Lunch....TO Banning Gun Ranges & Warehouses
Billy Bob replied to CLofchik's topic in General Discussion
Hand guns are used for several different purposes. Self defense in one, target shooting is two and hunting, YES hunting is done by many with a hand gun. Also trappers find a .22 caliber hand gun a good companion while on the trap line not to mention hunters who hunt dangerous game like a large handgun as a back up weapon. -
If you were in shallow water with lots of weeds and the power turned up it will look something like that. And the reason you seen no "hooks" is because you were not over fish. They are not everywhere but I wish they were

Miller Out To Lunch....TO Banning Gun Ranges & Warehouses
Billy Bob replied to CLofchik's topic in General Discussion
"Nobody can deny that hobby directly results in people being shot and killed on the streets of our city," Miller said of sport shooting yesterday, amid debate on a possible gun bylaw. I can and would deny that hobby directly results in people being shot and killed on ANY street in any country ! ! ! Once guns are outlawed ONLY outlaws will have guns. Does this mayor think adding more STUPID gun laws will protect anyone. Instead of outlawing guns I believe some PEOPLE should be outlawed ! ! ! NY City has a NO hand gun law. Even though I am a registered hand gun owner in the State of NY I cannot take my firearm legally to NY City. Now tell me, is Western NY more safe than NY City or is NY City safer than the rest of the state where hand guns can be processed ? ? ? Again I mention don't outlaw legal guns but rather illegal people ! ! ! -
Greencoachdog, What I found to be better than paint is a plastic dip on my jig heads. It NEVER chips off. Only problem is after dipping you must hang them for about 15 minutes and then go back and clean out the eye holes on the hooks with a bobkin or similar tool. The dip shrinks and takes form to what ever is dip into it. Fishing rocks really chips off paint but the plastic dip is indestructible. BTW nice looking jigs. They will catch many fishermen errrrrr walleye

There are a lot of good boats out there. With that said I am and plan on many more years on my 16' 4" - 84" beam - 39" deep Grumman that is 23 years young this year. I just realized I need a better picture of my boat

You also have to consider if you need a starting marine battery or a deep cycle marine battery. The deep cycle is used to power a electric trolling motor. Then you need to decide on what size you require. Most boats unless you have a very large outboard (100 hp and up) you should only need a group 24 starting battery. When it comes to deep cycle batteries get the largest you can fit in the battery compartment, there are Group 24, 27, 29 and Group 31 being the very largest battery. Bob
